One thing I noticed I haven’t seen mentioned is you can use focus points with a jumping heavy attack. Try a jump light attack followed by heavy attack with focus and it does more damage.
Correct! This will consume all your focus points and the more consumed the higher the damage output. It’s a great way to quickly dump your points for thousands of damage on one attack.
I swear i love the instant heavy strike of the thrust stance after dodge, its perfect against enemies that doesnt give you window to use the 4 focus smash heavy, and you dont have to worry about loosing focus waiting for the right window
I'm all about the thrust with retreat skill with the adding twirling attack followed by the heavy attack post twirl. Real good starting skills for survivability

One skill that i dont see people talking about is gaining focus with the spin attack. Its at the bottom of the tree, but worth it. It builds focus extremely quickly and can stun enemies.
Most people don't pay attention to details and description of the skill tree, I use it A LOT on bosses to get focus points in 10-20 secs, then heavy attack, pair it with the skill that gives you health for each focus points used and you are "basically" unkillable
a good combo to remember with the mobile spin attack is , light attack once then into spin or light attack three times into spin, very fluid transition and is a good way to quickly chunk off damage, doesn't work with a double light then spin for some reason thi
Spinning attack is underrated . Damage is pathetic but it build focus super fast and you can cancel it anytime to dodge enemy attack. You don't lock on animation like light attack.
I think the developers should have encouraged switching between stances more by including enemies that require using a certain stance to efficiently defeat them. Ghost of Tsushima did this, and it made it much more natural to switch between stances. This game doesn’t really encourage switching stances. The smash stance works for basically every encounter with the other two stances being highly situational.
True. But it's approach is more how can you be creatiia and use it as you see fit. I've tried stance switching like DMC but this game is a bit slower in that regard it's good but slower.
I’ve finished the game 2x now and finished the secret ‘final’ boss as well. Pillar stance < thrust for like what, 75-80% of fights? The fact it pushes you away from the enemy alone even on charge 1 is broken as shit. This works on bosses.
Honestly didn’t touch either stance till I had enough points to fully utilize them. Just so many other things to put points into I focused mainly on whirling spin for focus gain and smash stance. Now that I’m lvl 100 I have enough points for all of it so I’m playing more with the different stances. Will make for a good time on my 2nd play-through.
You can use the defense move also against boss projectiles Like with the snake dude and other magic attacks. And the final upgrade is amazing Immobilize a boss use it walk forward and you can get multiple focus points
Same, I don’t like smash stance to be honest since the whole see through the enemy mechanic is impossible for me, I do it too early I’m damaged, too late and I’m damaged. I can just never get the timing down. But thrust and pillar stance are great since I’m not required to use the see through mechanic to actually put out decent damage
Just want to say using the mobile deflection also helps to build up that focus meter REALLY FAST. I like to immobilize then build up as much focus as I can and then BAM! Heavy smash attack lol
Since i descoverd the Thrust Stance this is my all time favorit :D , i created incredible moments with it, since i can knock down enemy bosses when they rushing attack on me :D

So for the "parry" attack, you have to time the heavy attack between your light attack combo and just as the enemy attack? Or can you press heavy attack while you're in a light attack animation?
You can press heavy attack during your light attack combo to perform the move without "seeing through the enemies" attack. To "parry" and become invincible for a second you need to press heavy attack right as they attack, similar to a perfect dodge.
@JorRaptor, do you have any videos showing off your actual skill? I wanna see you fight erlang for the first time. You go over some really self-explanatory stuff..
I just want to ask, what are the projectiles that you are able to deflect using staff/mobile spin? There are more than just minion arrows I know but are you able to tell?
I wish someone would say exactly how you perform the heavy attack. Do I press R2? Hold R2? Does it only work if Im mid combo? I just dont understand how the heavy attack works.Sometimes it works othertimes it does nothing.
I don't understand how to keep spinning during sweeping gale. Like do I have to upgrade everything in that skill tree or just hold light Attack bc holding light attack did not work. Need help lol😅😢
Does anyone know how to make the heavy attack reach further? Every time I do it, it doesn’t even reach the enemy and end up missing. But I’ve seen clips where the staff extends, what is it that I need to upgrade?
You need to use a focus point for that to happen, and you can only do it before the final attack of the light combo As long as you have a focus point, press heavy attack during your light combo, you will consume it and will perform the heavy
You probably don’t care about my comment but I have a question. What buttons do you press for the for the combos. Your not helping me by just showing me please show me what buttons you press for combo.
