"Waltz No. 2" (also known as "Russian Waltz" and "Composition 99") is a Soviet waltz composed by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1938.
Feel the spirit of the Soviet 1930s - the prewar decade, a time of mass urbanization and the rapid industrialization of the Soviet economy. I think this waltz fits it perfectly, even though it was composed around the end of the decade. So I decided to use footage from that time. (I also upscaled it with AI)

My father was a musician in Stalingrad. During the German occupation, the sound of his violin filled the air with magnificent music - Korsakov, Stasov - many of the great nationalist composers. To my countrymen, it was a symbol of hope. To the Germans, it was a symbol of defiance. Even now, his music still haunts me. The Nazis slit his throat while he slept. Collaborating with any Nazi is a betrayal, a betrayal against all of Mother Russia. Dragovich and Kravchenko were not troubled by such matters. They looked only to advance towards their own interests and agendas...

Shostakovich and Stalin hated each other. This music was composed (of low quality compared to symphonies, for example) by Shostakovich because his style was seen as formalist and against the people
