One of the guys at work had some of those hand operated clippers and used to cut a few of the other guys hair for them, he did a brilliant job. I think you must need to oil them often and then they do a perfect job. The cut throat razors were used to clean up hairlines and clear the back of the neck as well as shave beard hair.
You should put new blades on the clippers, adjust the tension screw and strop the razor. Then give it a go

Modern machines are brand new. Vitage are used and been seating for years, they basically dont work. Any experience barber can do a decent job with any new or old machines, new machines make your job easier , faster but not always better! Good video, would be better if you could use some good working vintage machines!

Try to use corded ones at first. They are cheaper and cut good. Get some Osters Fast Feeds or Andis Masters, if you're not from states pick up Wahls like Super Tapers or Magic Clips. These are the base and icons of clippers. For the trimmers of course T-outliners by andis. As for me it's better to rock corded legends than cordless chinese replicas✊

Before machine/clippers they use to use only ✂️.. and the cut would come out flawless.. just go-to poor countries and visit an old barber and see
As a young lad, dad used to use the manual hair clippers when he cut my hair. It used to pull my hair. I bought a pair a few years ago and they do not pull the hair at all. If you keep them clean and maintained, they should not be unhygienic to use.
