- JB Retirement inches closer for the Loo Household! It took a while for the approval process to finish, and now that it has, the renovation works are finally in progress! Mr Loo thought to record a good video updating us on the progress of the house, costs, and important decisions that need to be made with the architect. And also: what good food did Mr Loo find in JB this time?

The food and drinks are laden with excessive sugar and oil. It doesn’t meet the dietary requirements of vegetables (fibre). Moderation is the key to good health.
Have been watching your videos for a while and it's time to give you a shout out. Thanks for posting your real life experience in JB and I enjoyed the variety of topics. My wife and I are about the same age as you and your wife, we also like going back to visit JB every year but with a 90 day social visit visa from US. We also bought a condo back in 2018 and only use it 3 months every year. Yes, we also love JB and would like to continuously come back to enjoy the foods and great hospitality of the JB people. Keep up the good works and I believe your channel has contributed to more visitors to JB and the local businesses are thankful for you. Hope to bump into you and your wife someday in a Kopitiam 😀.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
You might be eligible for the new 15 years mm2h visa with your existing condo in jb that’s purchased within 10 years. The only thing is you’ll have to prove a FD amount of approx S$45k in Malaysia. After your visa is approved, you can use half of that for your expenses in the country. The remaining half stays in the bank to earn interest. Just sharing cos it might be beneficial to you and your family worried free from the 30 days rules. U can stay as many days as you want but the minimum will be 90 days per year. Not bad for retirement. “P/S: Im not an agent/consultant” just sharing the information with you :)
Thanks to Mr Loo for sharing his coffeeshop makan in JB. By the way, YTF with CCF is available in Singapore in hawker centres. Price increase in JB is natural since many Singaporeans spend money there. It hurts the ordinary Johorean. But those Johoreans who run shopping retail businesses and eateries are very happy. Fuel subsidy changes in Malaysia is an internal issue that Anwar has explained carefully. The ordinary eatery food in JB is generally good. In KL, Ipoh and Penang the food standard is very good.
if business is good so should be the salaries... by right...
The inflation that you are experiencing is only in Johor, the prices are likely cheaper in the other states further away from Johor.
Yes. Of course
This 2 coffeeshop in Taman Sentosa side by side frequented by many Singaporeans hence the food and drinks will be pricier! The kampung chicken rice will also be pricier, normal chicken rice cost RM6-7 per plate! If not wrong the prawn noodles u order is large RM9, smaller one cost lesser. The opposite coffeeshop prawn noodles cost RM15 which is quite pricey but affordable to Singaporeans! Kopi O here is RM2.40 although pricier but taste better!
Aiseh, "commando" security guards sia, all wear red beret lol....& the salute was classic 😆
😂
red beret in msia is for military police😊
Good tips on the shell racing Petro if not careful kena pay I don’t know what happened never noticed
Damn expensive but damn powerful petrol
I see you eating I feel damn hungry Mr Loo. I must go back to my house more regularly in JB leh. My landed there renovated nicely and ready for my life retirement plan
Nice!
Mr Loh, yes JB cost of living have increased. Still have many places with good food 'goo chau wei' and reasonable priced. You must find. You could try Tmn johor jaya & Tmn Molek with also many f&B and makan shops ard. Cafe definitely more costly. After makan you can go back sg by EDL high way straight to custom. Easy. Yum2 Tks.
Thank u very much for the sharing!
Mr loo. You are so humble.. You drive a honda.😁🍻
My Honda very expensive already…. Ridiculous car prices in Singapore
Diesel for transport services like public transport, school buses & etc still can get subsidies if they apply for approval. Got more than 200k companies approved.😅
Oh really?
Hi Mr Loo, please be safe. Don't drive and think and talk and film at the same time. Pls take care 😊
nice.. next 20 years will have huge economic activity in jb.
Coffeeshop food is expensive for Malaysians. Some of my Malaysian friends cook at home and don't eat out.
I have been living in Jb ad hoc-ly since young. It has become safer because of the rise in job opportunities. The biggest difference to me btw sg and jb now is 1) cost and speed of internet, water quality,
given have stayed in austin heights for 2 mths, some thoughts for sharing- the traffic jam in austin height is horrendous. even food area the traffic is very very bad.
will not choose austin to live. causeway jam-drive to austin jam. simply horrendous if we were go travel to and fro.
Can you Avoid peak hour traffic?
@@1m65 abit difficult to avoid peak hours as still not retired. Either move at 0730 and erp kanna all the expensive ones :)
Malaysian food taste better than Singapore food because Singapore food has less salt, less sugar and less fat! This morning, we have Mei Cheng Xiang rice dumplings at $5 /2changs for breakfast. I have not eaten such nice Chang in Singapore for a very long time! Mei Cheng Xiang Chang is very smooth and delicious because it contains more fat than the normal Chang from other stalls and hawker centre!
How to get to Austin Heights coffeeshop places after reaching the customs by bus? is take taxi, safe or not?
Grab! Very safe!
Smooth traffic going JB home in midnight. You should also do another video on a comparison during peak hours, such as 6pm going JB and 7am coming to Singapore during weekdays.
Why would I knowingly go into a traffic jam ?
It was never dollar for dollar when spending in JB since I started spending in JB 10 over years ago. It is a misconception all the while. 10 years ago duck drumstick rice RM 9, Singapore SGD 4.50 a plate.
Yes, it was dollar for dollar but 40 years ago...😂
Thx for sharing. Have you get the VEP for your car?
Working on it
Help to recommend good durian stalls in jb?
I also don’t know…
My mouth watering, seeing u eat😂
1am? Geez. I'm already zzzz liao. Getting old. Need to catch up on zzz.
I living in Europe time zone. Used to it
Mr Loo. Dun flag out big notes on tables or public. Safety reason. By the way. Was it a rm100?
Can you take photos of the coffee shops / places that you eat so we can go there too
Yes! Next time!
Individual diesel car get rm200 per month , cash . Just a handful of commercial users are not subsidised, eg tour bus, construction industry, tow truck , etc...most commercial vehicles transporting daily necesstities, school bus, farmers, fishermen, etc are still being subsidised at average rm2 per litre. , much lower than 3.35 now...annual savings is about rm4 billion...main reason is to make sure those who really need help will get it and not to be used by smugglers
Thanks for sharing
now is durian season...so how about durian price in JB compare to sg now?
No chance to eat durian this time. Sad. Too rush.
Tangkak road side, signage says durian RM 18….believe its per kg RM 18….drove past, didn’t stop so can’t confirm.
Was recently in Tangkak for durian and Desaru for leisure. Visited coffee shops, resorts & hotel open concept restaurants, wet market too. Always kept busy shooing away houseflies coming for my food. At wet market, every raw meat stall has A4 sized sticky paper that's filled with big black houseflies caught on them 😅. My concern is what is happening in the kitchen. Just me and the SG standard.
i enter jb with my wife almost every sat/sun. too bad i don't know u personally yet although we have many common friends in hopewest else can jio u go eat together! haha
Yay!
Mr Loo, it is 0100hrs & you are not resting in bed on weeknights. I am afraid that one needs to recover...as there are EVER so many things you have to do by yourself...Recover, rest for even a further journey.
Ha… jet lagged.
It’s inflation everywhere around the world. Watch Milton Friedman to understand it
Chicken rice in SG $4~4.5
All the diesel vehicles want to sell n buy petrol vehicle. Next thing, the government might reduce the subsidies for 95 too.
I also think so
Mr Loo, please do not use mobile phones at the pumping stations, it is dangerous
Yes that is true. Don't use handphone at petrol station.
JB Chicken rice is still cheap. RM$7 convert to SGD is S$2.
Yes, but not as cheap as I was used to
Anwar removed diesel subsidy in west Malaysia only. 🤔
Yes that’s what I heard too
Recommend you to try Ah B wanton noodle
Yay!
All these jb businesses are earning SGD not RM
So 1 meal sitting need rm50?
No need at coffeeshop
rm16 for one plate chicken rice?
That's for 2 portions.. OK la
Have you applied for VEP?
In the process
Do you have high cholesterol issue seeing what you eat?
Yes, since I was 20s….
Have.
Ofcourse for sure Malaysia food is better, most of the natual food from Malaysia. we import most of their food, by the time reach us not as fresh as theirs. just like you buy fish in wet market morning just got it from fisher
Jai Hind. Flying cars would be ideal for commuting to and fro JB Singapore.
I prefer sg food now, bcoz wanna keep fit. Stay msia eat msia confirm 3 high 😂… too many nice food😅.. once awhile ok la, everyday 5 high also come 😂
Ha…. Agree
Cheap cheap !!! Price go up
Ha..
Dear Mr. Loo From Malaysian Standard is very high, certain areas in Malaysia like JB, kL and Genting. That's the reason. It depends on the areas and locations. Try to avoid buying a meal at a Hawker staff if the meal is RM10. I am now in Kuching after 1 week in Indonesia. Here in Kuching, l had chicken rice, drumstick, and plus one fried egg for my lunch today for RM7(SGD2) supper cheap. I am flying back to KL tonight. There are still areas in Malaysia where a meal is still RM5, states like Kedah Melaka, Kuching). JB is expensive, they cut your throat
Mr Loo try the ipoh kai see horfun from the same stall selling prawn noodle, similar to that found in Ipoh. The chee cheong is kl style.
I shall try next time
I used to drive. Now I don't. I realised that if I don't drive, I actually have more time to myself, hobbies, etc. When you drive you tend to want to go around.. ya. So nowadays. I try to be more minimal lifestyle except spending on travels. 😂
It’s definitely more expensive in JB than in PJ
I prefer Singapore security .
Then Malaysia..
But foodies few Ringgit cheap only. ..
I have staying jb.1984 until move sg.😂
Mr Loo, although the food taste very shiok, please don’t over wack the food. Many health issues after age of 50 onwards. The lard, sauce, salt they use to cook makes the food very nice and addictive. So stay safe when you are there enjoying your R&R. I am sure you want to enjoy your grand kids as you are preparing for it now when u build your house.
this price is normal in kl
I mountain tortoise 😊
The ordinary wage earners of Johore should blame the "haolian" boastful Singaporeans spending lavishly any buying goods in huge quantities there.
The Malaysian government should limit the number of people from crossing to Johor or impose taxes for goods purchased by Singaporeans etc.
The Malaysian won’t lah . Tourist dollars
Have u tried Zus coffee ?
JB food is no longer as cheap. Is about 20% cheaper than Sg
Must be because of you..
I wish I am so influential
How not to gain weight in JB?😊
Mr Loo, you haven't mentioned Fibre Internet prices, RM89 per month for the cheapest 100mbps plan!
For comparison, Singapore has $21.80 per month for (up to) 2.5 Gbps plan
Oh really?
Not everything there is comparable cheap. Their internet is damn ex. But overall quality life there is damn awesome and cool
Internet and telecom are more expensive in Malaysia than Singapore. And slower speed somemore
Average monthly salary in JB is S$850, that chee cheong fan is $$5. How is that considered even remotely cheap? There is uproar now by the Malaysian people because the inflation is making Johoreans suffer in part due to Singaporeans going there to indirectly jack up prices by supporting the higher prices asked by sellers. The local Malaysians who don't work in Singapore can only stay home and eat and suffer in silence. The time will surely come when they will rise up in revolt. Just watch. This time it will not be just a minor riot/scuffle.
True. Malaysia is affordable only if you are not earning a Malaysian income.
You are wrong. I know lots of Johoreans who capitalize on the demand coming from SG. These are local JB Malaysians who setup their own eateries, online businesses and industrial businesses that compete with SG. They are a damn motivated bunch of people. The smart Johoreans will love the present state of economics. The ones that do not wish to do more and sit back and relax are the ones that will suffer. I have been in Malaysia for 5 yrs now, i can tell you that Johoreans are more business smart than SIngaporeans.
@@leeaaron7856 Thats what I am saying. These are the same people who will be targetted when Johoreans freak out at what they are doing to the state. They speculate, they flip, they make things expensive.
Many of us can also go over to JB and do these things. But we are afterall, still foreigners. If you scr3w your own people thats your business, but if you scr3w other people, get ready to be whacked by them when they explode.
Malaysia never liked foreigners, thats a fact. If they are Malaysians and they do it, thats their choice. You want to join in? Its a different game dude. You slapping your sisters' faces playfully vs we slapping her is different yeah.
Depends on where in Malaysia.
Jai Hind. Be considerate and always remember not to become another Singapore birdman in Malaysia.
I didn’t say JB is cheap. In fact I say that JB is getting very expensive.
YTF CCF w Curry
Dangerous to drive in Malaysia ..
No lah
@@1m65 If accident then hard to claim insurance. Also got thief steal cars.
Malaysia is like the United States of ASEAN, from my feedback from Indonesians: Malaysia is like a developed nation for Indonesians perspective. They come here for education, medical care, and to get better job opportunities and a better life.
Actually, Malaysia is the US of Asia, not just ASEAN. Even the flag also similiar
You sure they developed¿
@@thaddddeee5355You should come to Klang Valley and Penang tell me it is not developed okay?
@@leealex24 unfortunately no
@@thaddddeee5355 Honestly, no one really cares about your input. Malaysia is already more developed/richer than all other asean countries and remember Malaysia is a country, not just a small city like the one down south so, it's not surprising to have areas more developed than others. It's the same even in countries like US.
Cities like Klang Valley and perhaps Penang are already developed states/cities since 10 years ago. But, like I said, ignorant people can just ignore ma.
Malaysia food mostly with a lot of MSG, that's why tastier.
Wah, seriously at 1am on Sunday? And now inflation is closing the gap plus Jihard Islamic presence is active. Singaporeans love to make their retirement life complicated lol.
Dollar to dollar, for Singaporeans is damn cheap. But for Malaysians " si siao la " 🤣🤣
