I really appreciate the show making Earl feel so human here. He wasn't just apologizing, he was sharing his perspective as someone who has messed up horribly, and provides what was going on through his head. It doesn't feel like an excuse. "It's so easy to take nature for granted, because it's always there. And technology is so bright, shiny and new." It sounds more like he's recognizing that the error he made is likely something that several like him would fall into, and actually wise minds would actually have the insight to think "nature matters more than this."
That, and having the respect for his family to own up and apologize in the first place. The way he talks to Baby and the rest of the family truly feels more like he owes them something that he is willing to give, and less like he's trying to seek comfort in the idea that it's going to be okay. "Daddy was put in charge of the world, and he didn't take real good care of it." He could have said that the world was too hard to handle or some other excuse, but he owns up to the fact that "he didn't take real good care of it."

The series finale may be a bit disturbing for young audiences, but it carries a powerful message. It emphasizes that while technology is impressive and cool, we shouldn't take nature for granted just because it's always been there. Greedy companies prioritize profit over their clients' well-being without realizing that one day their time will come, and they can't take their money with them. The extinction of our species will ultimately affect them too, so they are acting counterproductive now. There's still time to take small steps to help save the environment. While hope is important, our actions ultimately make the difference.

I remember watching this finale with my brothers. The somber music, the doom-ridden looks on the characters faces and the slow pan out the window as the snow kept falling. Then they fade to credits and we’re like “This can’t be how they end the show!” And then Howard says good-bye and fade to black and we were STUNNED! We couldn’t believe that’s how they ended the show. Even to this day this ending gets me. I haven’t watched a full episode of “Dinosaurs” since knowing the outcome for all these characters is bleak. Maybe that’s the point. Everything you care about comes to an end, and if you’re not careful there will be no one to remember it.

It’s so sad just how everyone accepts their fate. Everyone understands they’ll die. Everyone except the baby. He doesn’t understand and after his father tells him they will be ok and stick together it cuts us to the mother who realises the harsh reality (so does the dad and everyone else) but it shows us how the baby is the only one with hope even though he is going to die first. That’s what the family meant by they will always stick together and how they won’t disappear but in fact it will be the baby who disappears first.

This was so freaking dark and I never would have guessed this is how it would end. The way the family just sits together quietly while the snow comes down outside sent to chill on my spine and the"Good night and goodbye" was so emotionless that there was some genuine dread in that scene.

This show didn't pull any punches, but they always put a great comedic twist on everything. Well. Except the show's grand finale.
They knew the show wouldn't go on and instead of a meaningless episode that would neatly tie into endless re-runs, they made _this._ An episode that just hits you like a ton of bricks with its finality and the message attached to it. They had this one shot to make something truly meaningful and they did. It's simply amazing and I doubt there's a show with a similar demographic like it.

With the way people are acting in society the last since 1993 but really over the last 150,000 years. Humans don't deserve any place on any planet. We fight, and kill, and cause the extinction of plants, animals, and even other people! We destroy the healthy body and move on to a new one, then reproduce and proceed to destroy that! I'm sorry to be a downer, but the sad reality is that when we're gone, the planet can begin to heal. We have more than enough resources for everyone to live comfortably on this planet, yet we go to war and fight and kill because two old farts can't get along or agree on how to make themselves richer while destroying our freedom and keeping us poor and distracted with all the myriad of crap they can produce in an endless routine of control and conquer 😅 in short...

I think the shot of the Fruitco sign is a beautifully poignant moment. The project that set off the chain of events that led to their demise… ultimately failed BECAUSE of the chain of events it caused. The dinosaurs caused their own destruction due to their greed and short-sightedness. And what will be the sign shown when future creatures see a show called “Humans”?

A show like "Dinosaurs", you'd always figure it'd end with them at least ACKNOWLEDGING that something was going to happen to make them all go extinct, but to have an Ice Age destroy an advanced society is just... tough to watch.
In terms of apocalypse, people always point to zombies and nukes and aliens from outer space, but an Ice Age has got to be one of the most brutal "end of the world" scenarios because of how slow it would be. Food would become scarce and then ultimately die out, mass riots would break out, people would cling to technology until the power lines finally became overloaded and failed, and all the while it would just keep getting colder and colder and colder.
The end of the world would be slow, prolonged, and brutal, and the last person to go would never know that they're the last one, and as they slowly freeze to death they would probably still be clinging to the hope that somebody somewhere managed to make it, never knowing it's all over and nobody is left.
Yeah I put more thought into this than maybe I should have.

Probably the saddest and most depressing show finale I have ever seen. Yeah, we all know what happened to dinosaurs, so obviously they wouldn't just be around forever, but for the show to actually end on the extinction of a species is so incredibly sad. I don't think I've watched a show since that has ended a series like this did.

Special mention to the look Handupme makes during the pause between *”Good night" and "Good-bye":* he slightly lowers his head in a somber manner, perhaps knowing full well that he and all the other dinosaurs are not going to live on much longer due to the destruction the dinosaurs have inflicted, both directly and indirectly, on their world, and he is concluding his final broadcast, almost prepared to face his demise. *Props to Handupme's performer, Kevin Clash, for pulling off the convincing expression.*

I actually really respect the fact that the creators had the balls to end the series like this despite being targated to a family audience
I know the show wasn't afraid to talk about mature subjects such as censorship, racism, drug abuse, sexism and more, but for the most part they kept the comedy pretty light hearted, but here there's no sugar coating the grim reality, and the fact that they not only take it seriously but actually have the characters we grew to love watching die (including the baby) that takes serious guts that even a lot of adult shows don't have
There's a reason why this finale is remembered and why this show is considered to this day to one of the best, most smartly written sitcoms of all time
