Kilner style jars might be more pracrical for dry storage. Your weck jars will be great for preserving/canning.

Yh I had a look at those but didn't like the metal handles. I felt like I could control this one better.

Do you need the rubber gasket thing between the glass pieces when not canning?

Hi BarbieandLana, honestly I am not sure however I bought all the rings because I wanted an airtight container for all my dried foods as well as juice. If you are using it for deco then you don't need it.
With that said I have transfer a small amount of goji berries in one of them and I do not have the orange ring on it. Thanks for stopping by.

I think the rubber gasket protects the rim from getting chipped and making the jar useless.

I think it helps to keep the contents safe from food moths and such.
