Story:
For moons, Blackear and her mate Brambleleaf have been trying to get rid of a cruel and dangerous leader. Shadowstar, the leader of the clan they live in, Cloverclan, is violent, unfair, and oppressive.
unfortunately, Brambleleaf’s (who is a medicine cat) apprentice, Graypaw, has been working with Shadowstar, and is trying to rid Cloverclan of her, Blackear, and many other cats who are trying to remove him to make Cloverclan a better place.
So Blackear and Brambleleaf decide to poison and kill Graypaw and Shadowstar. This way, Shadowstar will lose a life and be weakened, while Graypaw will be dead for good. What the two don’t know, is that Graypaw has been listening in on their conversation and last minute, he switches the prey out and Brambleleaf is killed instead.
The next morning, a heartbroken Blackear escorts Graypaw to Starstones (the equivalent of the moonstone/moonpool in my oc universe) for his medicine cat ceremony. it then cuts to Graypaw’s dead body, and an upset Blackear. both cats have gashes on their heads. this is from hitting their heads on the stones as Blackear was drowning Graypaw in the sacred waters.
Blackear becomes CloverClan’s next medicine cat, believing that she must succeed both medicine cats now that they are dead.
in my universe, a cat must learn to communicate with ghosts. even medicine cats. this is a process that can take many moons. a cat must complete certain rituals or take certain herbs to sleep or “enhance” dreaming. once the cat makes this routine, ghosts and spirits will begin visiting them naturally. the only other way a ghost can visit a cat is if the cat is being haunted, possessed, cursed, or prophesied.
about a moon after Blackear becomes medicine cat, she is still learning how to communicate with the dead. she misses Brambleleaf terribly, and wishes she could see her. she goes on a walk to clear her mind, and for a brief moment, Blackear sees Brambleleaf’s spirit in the clearing. Leaping towards her long lost love in joy, Brambleleaf fades away, as Blackear’s connection to StarClan is not yet strong enough for long visits.
Blackear sobs, crouching down by a bush when she pauses. she hears the mewling of two tiny she-kits, and right then and there, she realizes something important.
Brambleleaf lead her to them.
Blackear realizes that she is supposed to take in the two kits as her own, and raise them. She calls over her brother, Snowstrike, and carries them back to camp.
Blackear is full of joy and gratitude, now realizing that Brambleleaf had a gift waiting for her. Two daughters.
Pleased about her new family, Blackear sleeps soundly for the first time in a moon, her connection to StarClan, and Brambleleaf, getting stronger every night.
