REMEDY: Every few days I massage extra virgin coconut oil on my Yorkie. If I don't do this, he itches constantly. The oil hydrates his skin and did away with any itching he had. Funny thing is I didn't learn this from anyone. I just used common sense and it worked. The oil is edible so I didn't worry if he licked it off (beneficial if ingested), he loves to lick the spoon I use to scoop it out. Also, the oil is antimicrobial ( kills bacteria and fungus) by nature. HELPFUL HINT: Of course I don't expect many to do this but I like to take him on walks at the beach and get him in the sea water. Ever heard of people using sea salt or Epsom salt in their baths? Similarly, maybe even to a greater extent sea water has healing properties and the magnesium rich water has a calming effect. Add to that it helps the skin retain moisture. So when I dip him in the ocean, I don't rinse him off like other dog owners do - I just towel him off, brush him when he's dry and that's it. Both this and the above has left my itchy dog with ZERO skin issues. The coconut oil works by itself though. SAVE the "salty dog" jokes guys. :)
@@JR-wj9it Dr. Bronner's Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I gotta say though, I now do it every night. I also keep his hair short on the body so I can really rub it in to the skin. I also give him a bath every week with Curaseb Chlorhexidine 4% Shampoo for Dogs. Don't know if the shampoo makes a difference though. He tends to itch if I go more than 9 days without a bath. It's better than my neighbor who has to take his dog to the vet every month to get shot up with steroids. That dog just passed away from a heart issue. Good luck.
@@mistermatsuda thank you for the reply! Yeah I take my dog to the vet almost every month for a shot but still itching and losing hair. Soo I’m willing to try anything at this point

I wash mines once a month and I put olive oil on him as a sheen and I always use conditioner but I have black skin that uses a lot of oil so I treat him the same LOL. Thanks for video...
Thank you Good Brother for this. I have a Tea-Cup Yorkie who's going through exactly what you're talking about. I will let you know how it goes after taking your advice....
Thank you. We've had a couple cold snaps in floriduh, I've been washing too much and she started itching this week. Talk about timing. As an aside, I had a disseminated fungal infection, incorrectly diagnosed for years, that came out of my lungs, skin, eyes, hair, blah blah, and the more I bathed the worse it got. I'm cured now, but your technique worked on human me. It all makes sense now.
Ours go in the pool all the time. They fall in sometimes going after bugs. They are trained to get out on a dog board. They even drink the pool water! I get on them for it but yorkis are wild at heart. One of the Yorkis has red irritated skin. She sees the vet tomorrow. When she goes through this but it breaks my heart. My husband will toss them in the pool and have them swim to the other side after a muddy walk along the lake instead of bathing them. He does it early so I don’t know until after it’s happened. Love this! You are kind❣️
What is the spray conditioner that you generally prefer for a shih Tzu? I see that you are using VET FORM shampoo conditioners, do you generally prefer these as well? I am seeking a product recommendation basically. I would love to see a video for product recommendations of what may be good to try and also what you found not to be worth the money. I would also LOVE a home grooming product recommendation as I have not found a groomer as caring as yourself here in San Diego, I am also a licensed cosmetologist (not practicing as I went into dental) and I plan to groom at home, I would like to know what basic home scissor brush etc etc tools you would recommend for specifically my 3 shih tzus so that I can offer them a more ZEN experience that you do. I think you should call your school or business something like "The Zen Master Pet Experience" haha.
This is too much work to type it all out. Especially not knowing all the details. Could we schedule a time to speak on the phone? I'm in Juneau, Alaska so the time change may be a challenge depending on where you are
Such great advice - 2 questions - can I use jojoba oil to moisturize my yorkie's skin and hair instead of commercial conditioner. She never lets me brush her, she runs away so fast, lol -- Do you recommend a brush model/make that less intimidating(maybe smaller) for yorkies, as well as effective?
What do you do about there skin for the itching and cracks that is so bad for the dog in the meantime? Please? If I'm giving him a bath once a month, how long does it take for him to stop needing to scratch please? I feel so sorry for him and need to do what I can right now for him.
Try DerMagic. Their products really help! www.dermagic.com They have a page with testimonials with before/after pictures of the dogs with horrible skin issues. It’s incredible! It’s something you can do immediately to provide relief. Then, as a long term plan, I suggest brushing everyday, and bathing once every 4 weeks. It’s better to skip the bath than skip the thorough brushing. Then it’s better to skip the shampoo rather than the conditioner. Also, never use human shampoo - even if it’s baby shampoo. The pH is acidic to dogs. Their shampoo is safe for us, but not the other way around. I hope this helps. 🙏🏼

I have an American Pit Bull Terrier - the breed is well known for sensitive skin 80% of his issues was food allergies had to change to either Grain Free or at the very least one that has no corn, wheat, or soy. And then I found out last year (when he was about 2 1/1) that he can't have food with dyes in it, unless it's dyed naturally (by fruits and veggies in the food). So now he eats 4Health sold at only Tractor Supply, The rest of the itching, skin issue problems went away when I bought a shampoo/conditioner duo off of HSN (Yes Home Shopping Network), It's made in Italy and it's called Royal Treatment Shampoo and Conditioner. I've tried many many many brands and types before this, and this is the best on my dog, a little goes a long way I've had the same bottles (the conditioner is smaller in the one i ordered than the shampoo) but i bought mine almost 2 years ago and I'm still on my original bottles. and he gets a bath every month, makes his fur smooth, silky, and soft. and he smells wonderful and it's not that over powering gross flower or chemical smells from most over the counter dog shampoos. And it is not that expensive, it's about 27.00 without shipping for the 2 bottles and they've got a few different scents to choose from. And don't forget dogs are not any different than us humans we are not supposed to wash our hair daily or even every other day, because we wash our natural oils away every time, we're supposed to wash our hair only once a week. any dog no matter the breed only needs a bath once a month , but of course if they get into something really gross you'd need to give them a bath, but just for normal daily living , bath 1 time a month and no more than that when at all possible. and be sure to get all the soap and conditioner out, because like us if we don't wash it all out we get build up which turns into dandruff, so do dogs

I just got a Yorkie puppy last week...she already has skin problems. I'm so sad for her. I'm thinking of making her food and treats just in case it's her store bought food. She has a vet visit tomorrow
I've had two Yorkies and they do not need to be bathed like a regular dog. They don't have an undercoat like most dogs, they have hair like humans do. It's just hair on their skin, that's it. They only need to be bathed every 3 to 4 weeks. I never used a dog shampoo after the first few baths with my first Yorkie; my vet had me switch to a child's 2 in 1 shampoo so there is a conditioner for them. They also told me to let them air dry, not blow dry. If you use baby wipes in between baths, that will help.
Maybe try combing that area with a fine tooth comb, like a flea comb, everyday. It will help clear those clogged pores. It also may be allergies. Don't use anything that will dry the skin, like alcohol or peroxide. It needs to be clean and oiled. You don't have to add any oil bc her skin is already producing the oil it needs. The brushing and combing will help spread these natural oils all over the skin. That will help it heal and protect it.
Maybe you could hold him wrapped in a towel during the time he is sitting there wet. Shivering too long. Not nice for him. He's freezing. It's hard to listen to what you're saying while he's there shivering for SOOO long. The conditioner can still penetrate his skin if he's sitting in a towel without scrubbing him with the towel.
Couldn't even watch this to the end, the poor baby's uncontrollable shaking broke my heart! Why couldn't you have finished and had him wrapped in a towel before you shot the video?! I can actually hear his teeth chattering. Just cruel.
Yorkies shake like that even if you are brushing or grooming, cutting nails or just looking for fleas. My Morkies are old and very comfortable with me for 14 years, but they shake like that when I'm doing any maintenance on them even brushing?
