Kate Martin will be an awesome coach one day!
That won't erase the dismal performance she put in on Sunday. Big disappointment. "We knew they would out-rebound us?!!!!!! Great attitude to go into a championship game. Hope she doesn't coach that way in her future. "Girls, we can't out-rebound this team........."

Almost all Iowa starters played the entire game with no rest. SC rotated their starters, was at a height and size advantage, and Iowa still gave them the best fight yet! I have nothing but respect for the Iowa team, especially Caitlin.

Also, Kate Martin is a hottie!

Congratulations @@steveker5084 Yes; they lost to a great and fully deserving team that was simply better in too many ways. The 'cocks are the best team led by the best coach in women's basketball. But the loss takes absolutely nothing away from these amazing 2 seasons that the Hawkeyes gave us. They not only excited us but as Coach Staley said - "elevated the sport", drawing millions of new fans (like me) to the Women's game. Sure they lost the big game but Kate and her teammates won in every other way.
The Profound Impact by Clark, Marshall and Martin. This team has been a pleasure to watch over the last 4 yrs and good point about the Portal....still love Homegrown talent that stays and plays. Lisa Bluder is one helluva Coach and the future of this programm is looking pretty darn good!! Go Hawkeyes!!
Clark is the only one that will be remembered and sorry but Iowa’s program is done and they can’t and wont get any good recruits off of Clark’s name. As far as the portal that’s just the day and age we live in now if you wanna win transfer to the top schools. That’s what hurt Iowa no depth and no other scoring options but they still had a crazy run.
Hows the Portal working for Van Lith... and have you seen Iowas recruiting class... they aren't cooked.... do some research!

The next year made another playoff run with Foles and was a dropped catch away from winning back to back Super Bowls with a backup. Andy did nothing before Mahomes Kelce Chris jones and Sneed how is he better than Doug?

2nd place sucks! Back to back runner ups is nothing to be proud of. Everybody remembers the winner's, nobody remembers the loser's. Other than the 1st quarter, Iowa was never in it. I'm from SC, but was in Iowa's corner. Iowa couldn't pay me to come back. So disappointed in Iowa's play.
I enjoyed watching this team the last 4 years. Getting better and better. Class players
I like Kate Martin. She is an awesome teammate and human being! All the Iowa ladies were awesome and class act!
She's all of that. And she put in a dismal performance yesterday. Both things can be true, as they say these days. Missing lay-ups is inexcusable, even in grade school.. She suffered from the shakes. You could see the fear in her eyes during the line-up announcements. Sad ending to what I thought had been her best season. To stay that fifth year, just to lose. Bummer.

As an SC fan, I have to give props to Caitlin, Kate, and Iowa's coaching staff for their incredible talent and intensity. Most of all they are a classy program. They gave it their all. Caitlan was, no doubt the best player in women's college basketball. Kate Martin, and Iowa's center played a great game. I couldn't imagine contantly having to face a great player with fresh legs, when you've been playing your butt off for 20 or 30 minutes, and are a little gassed.
Caitlin commented about people who just started watching women's basketball over the last few years, and that they were late to the game. I have watched women's basketball periodically, or actually, sporadically would be more accurate, for several years, and have never seen someone so dynamic, who made me want to watch every game that they were playing in.
Caitlin Clark makes women's basketball a must-see event, honestly speaking! No other player has done that before, not in recent years/decades anyway.
I am proud of the Iowa ladies too. They were just overmatched today.
Kate Martin is such an impressive person. Dang, I am going to miss her. I could see her being a hall of fame coach some day.

So Proud of Iowa and S. Carolina, what a great game. I really thought Iowa would come back in the 4th but KAMILLA CARDOSO couldn't be stopped. She was incredible. Speaking of Incredible Players, Kate Martin played her heart out along with the rest of the Iowa team. She seems like she would be a great team mate and a great friend. She's so real. Love that!

I am so proud of these girls and the year they had. I know they gave their heart and soul out there to win. It just wasn't in the cards. I would have liked to have seen a Taylor McCabe - 3 point shooter come off the bench and see if she could have given them a lift. I've seen her hit and know she can do it. It’s important to note : Seniors - Gabby, Kate, Caitlin, Molly, Sharon All of them not just 3. They all have value and a huge impact on this team. Their names should be in any article that talks about seniors moving on. You can keep things easy for the general public, and still talk about all the girls.

While I was happy for Dawn Staley, I have to acknowledge how hard Iowa fought and that they truly gave it all they had! What a run by Caitlin Clark and the entire crew too! This is the first time that I've watched the women's NCAA Championship game! Very exciting!
I an not a big basketball fan but tuned in to it for the last 3 games. Its been exciting. I loved watching I felt you ladies were amazing, I hurt for you. I want to say you ladies lost with class,

Why make this a race thing? Iowa lost and they didn't make excuses. They were humble in defeat, and gave their opponents credit for being better. Anybody who has ever been a part of a team knows how emotional it is when the brotherhood or sisterhood comes to an end. Of course it's emotional. S.C. was a big favorite for a reason. I live in Las Vegas, and the sportsbooks don't get emotional when they set the line, and the odds. Iowa did the best that they could against the obvious best team in the country. Last time I checked no one else beat them this year either. Regardless of race. South Carolina won with class, and Iowa lost with dignity. Can't we just enjoy the game, and the spirit of competition. These are all just young adults that are coming into their own. I noticed that every team in the tournament had black and white players on their rosters. And most likely these young ladies will remain close friends for the rest of their lives. That my friends is a beautiful thing. Why go through life hating so much. Nobody on either team has done or said anything wrong. Also, nobody gets to choose who their parents are. Yes, we're different races, shapes, and sizes, with no say in the matter. Why hate or be hated for being born a certain race.

This team accomplished something that lifted women's basketball to a level never seen before. I am sure the ratings for this game will be a record. Thankyou to Catlin Clark for giving the women's game a platform to showcase not only your talent but all the other great players that have been seen in this tournament.

Man, Iowa has the best roster of girls. I watched their games all year long and I really appreciated their toughness, class, and comradery. I am really disappointed they didn't win it all but very proud of them at the same time.

Yes South Carolina is the best and deserved to win. They could also make a serious run in the wnba lol they have 5 bench players that would start on any other team. Iowa was undersized like an 7th grader against a senior in high school lol Iowa is the best because of what they accomplished all year and the fact they got to the championship game 2 years in a row when they hadn’t even been to the final four since 93. All the names you now know in women’s basketball, you would know none of them if it wasn’t for Caitlin. They came up short, but they are best and I believe 90% of America would agree. Plus the talent around Clark she didn’t ever have another dominant player that could take over a game consistently and take pressure off Clark. She accounted for 51% of all Iowa scoring throughout the regular season. Wait til she has Boston in the paint next year then we’ll see what’s up. Championships on championships boa!!! So, eat me lol

Lisa Bluder Iowa’s Lady Basketball Coach is a classy lady and much admired. Her team including superstar Caitlin Clark, Hanna Steulke, Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshal, Sydney Affolter, Addison O’Grady and Taylor McCabe, were entertaining and fun to follow this season. These young ladies have done so much to advance women’s sports.
Though we are Buckeyes, (we noted that Kate Martin is also), is was good to get to know and learn a little about their personalities. Any one of them could be our daughter and we would be proud to call them so, especially Hanna and her smile, what a sweetheart, so feminine and yet so athletic. Even though you came up short today in the final, you should hold your heads high, and be very proud of your achievements!

They lost, but they were winners either way. Small-"town"-of a state/team, almost like Maine or Montana-for-a-team making the finals, TWICE. Sure, a win would have been sweet, but Iowa and Caitlin, as I explained above, making the final is a win. They should be happy and proud.

given South Carolina dominated the rim and rebounds in the game, it's really difficult for Iowa to attack the rim. they tried their best and gave 200% despite smaller in size. this is what really matters.
I love these young women so much. It breaks my heart to see their pain after all of their hard work. I will forever be proud of all they accomplished and the wonderful people they are!

They played two full teams with little difference. Iowa had several who had to play full 40 minutes.
Why is she ending her career so early? She could be a great background player in the WNBA. If I were the owner of a WNBA team, I would draft her and let her play with Caitlin Clark. They will win championships.
Caitlin Clark didn't impress me in this game... definitely not Larry Bird or Michael Jordan material. Now, those two freshmen from South Carolina...those girl's performed!!!
@@terryd3088 Michael Jordan was 0-6 against Larry Bird in six playoff series. I guess he wasn't impressive in those losses? Clark was carried 2 and 3star athletes to 2 straight NCAA finals with fresh bodies swarming all over her. She's still the greatest of all-time.

The entire IOWA team will go thru life knowing that they did not beat UCONN. It was given to them by the NCAA and the networks. They wanted a replay of last years Final 4 game.
I have NEVER yearned for a team to win the championship more than Iowa Women this year. I guess it just wasn't meant to be but man what a ride. So many folks like me were drawn to women's basketball because of this team so a big thank you for all the great times this season!
College and W basketball coaches should make every player jump 50 times it should be part of your practice. They got a run and jump. They don’t jump on rebounds on blocks and on shots close in shots layups they don’t jump they stay on the ground.
They got a fight hard to make her not look goofy. Wow.
Still ladies I'll say congratulations. You all gave a good game. You're still being respected by your fans. Good luck in the future whatever your choice maybe.
I am still a fan of this great team. I don't feel so bad for this loss because they gave us some of the best games to watch. Remember they are student basketball players and didn't have the height and the team didn't have recruited talent like other teams they were ordinary girls who played their hearts out for all their fans and that's why they became a great team. I wish them well in whatever they choose in life.
