It was only about ten years ago this man came on my radar-about the time I first picked up a guitar at age 70. I was so impressed with his skill and versatility; he made it look so easy. Rest in peace, my friend.

I'm a guitar player, too. His imitation of the steel guitar sound on guitar is so fluid and solid.

Oh Dear - another GREAT "side" musician lost - RIP Jimmy, you were and are absolutely one of the very best. A humble, modest soul with so much talent and great touch, taste and tone on any guitar. Love the end of this RUclips with the b &w clip of Jimmy backing the Louvins. What a tasteful, great solo.

Mr. Capps the closet I ever came to great country music here in the great Central San Joaquin Valley were two greats from here in Bakersfield California. Merle Haggard & Buck Owens! Thank you for all your music! Americana at it's best!

I trucked a lot of freight out of the Valley. My favorite part of California.

I grew up listening to the Louvins. Dad had many of their records. Only recently did I learn this was the man who gave them their signature sound.

@@gregorylincoln4328 Chet Atkins also played on some of their recorded songs as well.Paul Yandell was their regular lead guitarist.
Billy Barksdale also played guitar for my Grandfather and his wife and was also the driver of my Grandfather's Cadillac the morning My Grandfather, his wife, Billy Barksdale and his wife were all tragically killed in.
Billy was also a very talented guitarist that my Grandfather chose to perform with him.
Not much memtion of Billy being a guitarist for my Grandfather but my Grandfather thought he was a very fine musician.

So was Yandell trying to embarrass Jimmy by telling him to play Malaguena? I am sure Paul could play Chet's version because he learned all of Chet's tunes. Jimmy seems very humble and down to earth. I saw Paul a couple of times at CAAS and he was definitely lacking in the personality department. Maybe you just had to get to know him. I first heard Jimmy play on an old Starday LP called Saturday Night Guitar (I think). Pretty rare but full of great guitar playing if you can find a copy.
