Kayaköy "Levissi" Fethiye; The Town Where Life Ends Overnight

Exchange was a necessary situation in history, but no one could have predicted the pain it would bring. Neither the Greek side nor the Turkish side. It was a double-sided pain.
Those who left and those who came always lived with the hope that they would return. Because their homeland was the land where they were born and raised. They became strangers in the countries they immigrated to. There were even those who could not speak the language of the country they went to.
Kayaköy, Greek (Λειβίσσι) town, is also one of the most striking examples of the population exchange.
Just before the population exchange, the town's notables went to Ankara to ask Atatürk to exclude the town from the population exchange. But they have to return to their town without seeing Atatürk.
And when that date comes with the exchange agreement signed between the Kingdom of Greece and Turkey, the people of Kayaköy experience the cold pain of having to leave to their bones.
Although this huge town with its ghostly appearance now hosts crowds of people again with the intense interest of tourists, it is replaced by a sad silence at night. Shepherds graze their sheep and goats with thyme and wild herbs that grow even on the floors of these empty houses.
Hoping that no one will have to migrate...
