  • In this Video I use a rented excavator (hence the clunky operation for all you experts) to dig a hole to bury our stainless steel water tank which serves as a cistern to provide gravity water to the house. Water is pumped to the surface at the windmill, and empties in to the 600 gallon storage tank, where it gravity feeds to the house and is pressurized.
It was initially set "temporarily' at grade to provide water for the house, but as with all "temporary" measures, it stayed that way for close to 10 years! In the winter I would use a combination of heat tape and coverings to keep the outlet from freezing in the winter, but freeze ups were a regular occurance.
By burying the water tank (I also include a boxed area that can be heated if necessary), freeze ups should no longer occur.
