I wouldn't say this is stupid. This rifle setup was actually mentioned in the movie El Dorado, near the beginning of the movie. Not directly but I knew what he meant. You could see the big loop lever on it. John Wayne tells Robert Mitchum, "There's something familiar about that gun." Then Mitchum replied, "I just had it fixed up like you had yours. You got lucky with it, so I thought I would give it a try". There is also a scene near the end of the movie Rio Lobo where they are getting ready to make a trade of two guys. John Wayne says "hold it a minute." He then swaps the rifle he is holding for one in a holster on his horse. You can see he swaps it for a rifle with a big loop lever. I believe this type of rifle mod, was a big deal to him.
In later years, th' Duke had his favorite '92 shortened, 'cos as his ... vest... got bigger, he hit himself a coupla times. Hollywood had him as 6' 4", so he had a fair reach, but its harder to lean for'd on a movin' horse
Have always had a problem with broken links--are there any STRENGTHENED links? Also, I see a closer angle with that trigger-trip screw--is it going against a "floppy" trigger?
Hi Professor, I must confess that when I drill the hole for that screw, I always just eyeball it. I may not have the best angle but it always works. Also, once I get the screw in, it can be bent a little as needed.
Question: Did Schwarzenegger performed the same spincock in Terminator 2?? I remember it clearly by the way... just aren't sure if he was wielding a Winchester or some other lever rifle?!🤷🏻♂️
I believe you are right. He does multiple spin cocks. It looks like he is using a shot gun with the stock trimmed so he can use it like pistol. Usually these are called mare's legs and done with a Winchester with the stock and the barrel cut down. Here the barrel is not trimmed. After all, he is Arnold.
Spin cocking the rifle is not hard to learn. It depends on how long the barrel is in relation to your arm length. You might tape the end sight on the barrel because you will probably hit your shoulder with it a couple times. After you understand how far you have to reach to clear your shoulder, you are on your way.
Hi J., It seems like it would. But, It's just that first time that is a problem. You can wear an old coat the first time or just make sure you straighten out your arm so the barrel clears your shoulder.
If your first motion is to open the lever all the way, it should grab the shell so it doesn't fall out. Some types of blanks are better than others for this.
The movie gun was actually a 92. The Rossi R92 is a budget version of that made in Brazil. I have one in .357. It doesn’t have the grip safety to be removed.
HI Rusty, I see your problem. I got mine so long ago that I don't remember where. At that time , they were not hard to find. It looks like they are out of stock now.
I used my original lever and cut a piece out…added another larger rounded piece and had it soldered in…it’s how they did it on the rifleman…you’ll notice the modifications on chucks rifle…check out the very early versions of his 92…it cost me around 50 bucks…maybe less than that…it’s really easy to do.
Since Winchester used to make some large loop rifles from the factory, I wonder if you could order a replacement part. It might have to be ordered from Miroku in Japan.
I’ve always liked the spin cock move, and I think it’s just as badass now as it was back then in the days of Chuck Connors and the rifleman. Thanks for showing that it is possible for a gun to load and shoot when you do the spin cock thing, but clearly you have to do it the right way because, as others on youtube have said, gravity is your enemy.
Today by adding the trigger-trip screw pin to the lever of the rifle the ATF would call that *_a Machine Gun!!!_* Even though it still requires an action of the trigger for each round that is fired!!!
Is it possible to do this using an 1860 Henry Rifle? (gotta send em confederates running!) If possible, which brand do you think makes the better reproduction of said rifle?
I have a Henry but I'm no expert with it. The action on mine is not smooth enough to try any of this. I have a big loop for it but its not shaped right to spin. I would have to say don't count on being able to use a Henry.
Had a toy lever action rifle when I was a kid. It had a similar device on the trigger. A small metal tab, that was folded up when you wanted to fan the gun. Great fun!

Put a couple of turns of toilet paper over that front sight to pad, and then wrap over it with electrical tape. Seems like a safer way to practice, and with the black electrical tape you shouldn't notice anything on the muzzle.
I've had people get weird when spin cocking my henry, and it's understandable, but the lever has the bolt open during the spin and no round is chambered, thus rendering the firearm inoperable until the lever is closed on the catch, at which point the barrel is pointed down range.
Now is there a way to do this to a airsoft gun or bb gun . My dad loves the rifleman but it would be cool to get him a airsoft version of this ! Ideas? Let me know
Hi 88, I'm not familiar with airsoft guns. The BB guns that I have dealt with require some force to cock them. The act of pulling the lever also pumps air into a chamber to fire the bb.
