  • This is an amateur film as I'm sure you can see. Music doesn't fit the photos I know, but it was really a 5 minute putting-together of all of the photos I had on hand; it wasn't meant to be anything special.
The credit at the end for Reginald Bartlett is because this ferry was in a collision with a Navy ship in 1957; Mr Bartlett was on the top deck, fell forward, hit his head on the engine room skylight. He got up, but fell down again, was taken ashore and to hospital and later died aged 65.
The credit for the boat was to give it a personal touch: but I'm not someone who goes round thinking ships are people, or "they have feelings" or anything like that.
I do have around 2,000 photos of the area from the last 5 years or so; this is just a compilation of the ones I had of one particular boat. I'm more interested in the archaeological side of the area, not so much "Oh look, it's an old ship" as "Right, let's do a survey of that". I'm no anorak - but I verge on it sometimes.
I might do another one like this, I might not...but I hope it's useful, because the local area has so little coverage on here.
    Cheers
(I should add, the young boy in the blurry photos is me; the rest were taken by me)

I grew up in Gosport and went to school in Portsmouth and remember similar ferries to this one. Forton lake was a playground for me. I left the UK in the 80's. Now in my sixties I often reflect on my childhood in Gosport, so thanks for the visual reminders
