I like the 30" short scale 6-string basses because you can match the tuning of your guitar one octave down...which makes composing bass lines so easy for songs created on your guitar... 💥
Beautiful Khruangbin play-along at 06:40. I'm glad to see their bass lines slowly becoming more popular. Can you blame them though? They're just too groovy!
That's one of the first songs I learned when I started playing bass late last year! Most of their songs are not difficult, but they're a ton of fun to play. Hope to get the chance to see them live some day.
There used to be one I lusted after by Brice, "HXB-406 3/4" , available on Rondomusic for $550. Some in Transparent Flame Maple Purple and Blue. I have an Ibanez 34" 6-string, and yeah. It's just a bit too much neck to take advantage of the chording possibilities. I have it strung with E-E custom D'Addario nickels and plain steel. Post-pandemic, the Rondo stock has never been the same.
Nice looking and sounding bass, it changes the way you play for sure, I think it is the first time I see you playing this way. I can see why you dig it so much... :)
Yes. That sounds smooth and sweet. Awesome clarity and definition. Looks killer. It’s worth the price if you love it, right? Look how much you get out of the upper register. Flats kill on it too.
Loved the sound when you had it going with the backing drums Lobster 🦞. The neck pick up sounds very much like an authentic “P” even though it’s not a “P” style pick up. With a touch of the bridge p/up you could get that great “PJ” sound. Like a SB-2.
It messes with my brain. 30 inch scale and the B string sounds like that? Defies logic...testament to good construction. And I REALLY dig those pickups.
More likely the pickups, preamp, and string choice. Afterall, the primary factor that construction affects is the scale length which dictates tension on the strings. I've played a 35" scale 5-string that sounded flabby and flaccid, but that was a $400-$500 instrument with cheap electronics.
What do I think about your Form Factor Wombat 6er? I like it so much that I'm willing spend the $3799 Form Factor's distributor Amp Shop Bass Exchange is asking for the 5 string version with Bartolini pups and pre that I'm buying. I currently have 8 short scale 4 string basses, and have been on the lookout for a short scale 5er for a long time. Your review gave me the extra bit of confidence I needed to buy one without be able to play it first. We'll see how long it takes to ship from ASBE in L.A. to my home in France. Can't wait!
Hey Lobster. Cool little bass. 6 strings sure opens up your possibilities. The flats make the tones smoothe. The neck pickup almost has a P tone to it. Your pick playing has much improved. Have great day😊. Until we groove again. 🥕🦀🎸🦞
I have been wondering if stiff flats like the LaBellas would make for a tight B on a short scale. Now I know. (I recently replaced the DT flats on the Mold Smoothie with LaBella's Low Tension flats. My fretting finger joints thanked me.)
Interesting/Awesome bass! Sounds good. the sound reminds me a bit of a Mensinger Cazpar short scale 5 I had a few years back. I'd like to hear how it sounds with either rounds or livelier not-so-dark-and-more-sustain flatwounds (like EB Cobalt flats or DA Chromes--but I assume you can't get all those gauges in those sets). That little puppy is a beauty though! As is, it would sound great on all those killer Motown and soul songs of the late 60s and early 70s--Al Green, Marvin Gaye. Gotta admit I'm lusting after this bass... not healthy. At least not healthy for my wallet!
Definitely not the first costly bass hes shown us, i kinda wish he could get more into foderas, wals, alembics and that cool stuff too. *hint hint to viewers to send our favorite crustacean some sweet basses*
Three grand is not crazy expensive for a specialized bass like this made by a small builder, especially if you examine the built in costs of the hardware, the electronics and the level of woodcraft needed to get the whole package into playable form. Although it's really not designed with me in mind, this seems like the entire instrument was pretty well thought out and executed.
Great-sounding bass. I do think that an instrument that expensive should have no hum/noise whatsoever. I notice that your playing keeps getting better.
Diggning the looks, digging the tones, digging the name, not really digging the price ;-) But hey, it's a hi-end bass so it's not that steep of a price. I'd like a 34" fiver... if I could afford one, that is ;-)
I think it's a very nice bass, but single coil noise on a boutique bass is kind of disappointing. With that fixed (split coils or humbuckers) and a couple more frets it would be a perfect little bass, with the name of one of the cutest animals ever.
I don’t think Dingwall has anything to worry about. Nice sounding bass and would make a great 4 or 5 with a high C but that low B is awful, which given the scale length isn’t a big surprise. Visually the bass looks rather like a Wal. I guess with a custom maker you can specify what you want - I know that many love the sound of a pure single coil but the 60-cycle hum would drive me nuts. Still, great to see something different!
Do you remember Lucky Strike = LSMFT ? Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco . Translate : Loose Strings Mean Flabby Tone ! AKA : Gibson Fart Bass . I hope this sounds good in a group or in a mix . If you enjoy it , fine .
@@LowEndLobster Super high quality at the price points. Valiant punches at least $1500 above their weight in craftsmanship and not many machine thier own hardware down to knobs with multi wood inlays for instance compared to others in the market.

Not sure I've ever seen you get lost in a bass like this. That really says something about it.

I strongly recommend the version in this live video. Their albums are good, but they're better live imo ruclips.net/video/q4xKvHANqjk/видео.html
That's my kind of Bass. Love it probably the best sounding Bass I've seen you review
That Bass sounds shockingly good! Beautiful tones.😊
I love the flats. It gives it character.
WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have wondered about these basses for some time now. thanks for the review. i'm completely on board now!
You're playing it very well, man! Nice to see you having that much fun with the bass 😊
La Bella flats on a short scale 🤌
Nice tone! Sounds great with the Labella flats. I hear both a P and J tone. You play it good too! I like the name...Wombat!!! Thanks!

Saw this on reverb and loved the look of it. I’ll never be able to afford one of these but they are crazy to look at.
Sounds literally perfect. Wow.
Oh man! That thing sounds fretless at times, and actually does have a great B string… which I did not expect! Fantastic instrument dude!
That bass sounds incredible!
Wow. Great sound. Clear , musical, its inspiring.

You got a new amp! I got to try out one of the Orange combos like you had, it was very nice.
sounds great! and I love what it inspires in your playing

You was vibin on yhat neck pickup brother! Love the videos as usual
Very handsome bass. So many features I don't care for. Four string, long scale, single passive pickup is where I live.
That tone is so beautiful
loved the bass.
Hi Lobby,,,nice bass,,one big bonus,,and yet so simple,,Labelling the pots,,,I can't understand,,why most don't do it?
I love your review of your Wombat S.S. 6 string bass. I love the bass also! Have an awesome day 🦞

Incredible instrument.
Hello Sir, @pdbass suggested this channel to his audience and I'm glad he did. I'm as entertained as I am informed. Nice playing btw
Thank you! Paul rules

I brought this bass with me on vacation with the flats and it is soooo gooooood. The low b defies logic and physics

Very cool! More high-end reviews please.
Can you do a Dan Electro bass review?
i appreciate the khruanbin bass line👍🏼
Battery compartment looks like the cover is screwed on - kind of odd for a newer instrument.
Gezz, get a room, you two! ;)
Wow, that's amazing.
Thanks for the video! There's a typo in the title (fRom instead of foRm) btw
Thank you! Good catch
Outrageous.
You've gone from one end of the price scale to the other, haven't you? Nice bass though.
I try and cover it all!

Thank you for the review and for the snippet of Laura Lee. :) August 10?
Very surprised by the short scale B string but then again, if you're spending that much I'd definitely hope it held up.
where are these made?

Next he's gonna review a Fodera if he keeps going on this price end
I already reviewed one last year ;P. I also didn't pay anywhere near full price for this, I bought this used off a friend.
Different Intro

Shorter scale six string basses have existed for ages... They are called "Guitars".
You've come to the dark side finally crustacean-san.
Looks like a Wal

Honey, I shrunk the WAL bass.
I dont know, I dont think it sounds like 5k dollars to me at least
No bass does. Most people convince themselves their purchase was worth it to avoid looking silly.
@@jplb96 I tend to agree. But it is so hard to keep it all in perspective when Fodera is selling a $30k bass shamelessly.
nice bass not my type for 3k

I’m not a fan of short scale basses period. Beautiful bass though.
These are made by Valiant in Ukraine.
Yes but i believe these are produced in their CA shop 2-Hour min
