My dad dug a pond on his land when I was younger. I would play at the bottom before it filled up with water, like a big sandbox. I nearly got stuck in quicksand in one spot and nobody would have known if I hadn't found my way out quickly. RIP Dad 🍪
Best thing to to is March. Try and let it settle under you. This works on job sites. Break the suction. As the dirt falls in keep pulling feet up and as the hole fills in you rise. I’ve had it happen. It works.
agree. what if no one was there to help this woman? the "expert" comes off cocky like he's tamed nature. Never underestimate nature especially a dynamic place like a beach.
You didn't hear about a little girl who sunk in the sand recently in Fla, after her and her brother were digging sand castles. She died! Look it up, so sad!
@@sandramayes8679 she didn't sink in the sand, the father dug a 6 foot hole and the sand collapsed in on her and her brother when they were playing in the hole. A tragedy that could have been avoided.
@@sandramayes8679 I live close by and it was all over the local News. There were several witnesses as to what happened. Several people ran over and dug both the brother and sister out of the hole. According to a 2007 study, 3 to 5 children die each year by beach sand collapsing in on them after digging a huge hole. Do some research next time.

Coarse river sand does not pack like beach sand. It is very hard to walk on especially at the edge of the surf break. Like Doheny at a plus high tide. What great help from the "expert'! "Just get yourself out"! Thanks sport - no go back to your doobie LOL!

The real shock is that people are shocked when its been reported for the last 30 years that SEA LEVELS ARE RISING which means the beaches will be gone. Popham has been deteriorating for decades- no shock there.
Ahhh good old quicksand, the thing that fueled my nightmares as a child thinking it was everywhere.
Me too!

What if a kid got in there? Would it be so easy then? Not life threatening? This guy doesn’t sound like much of an expert.

Agreed. "Stay calm and find your way out of there"? Great advice...
It was the “stay calm, lean back and find your way out” for me. I’m not taking this mans advice.
@@asoulalignedhowgodhealshis6682I mean what advice should he give?
“Stay calm, lean back, find your way out” 😅
The beach spokesman doesn't seem very concerned
Very scary indeed! I never heard of such a thing happening on a public beach.

I grew up on the East Coast. Yes, that does happen sometimes. It happened to a friend of mine once.
Obviously a hole left by people digging in the sand and badly covered back up.
I agree
yeah I don't believe this one bit quicksand doesn't work that way
I wonder if she'll give up that extra double cheeseburger now?
The same thing happened to me back in 1988 in south Beach Florida Miami Beach 😮😮
Wow! If the Great White Shark don't get ya' the beach will !!!
If her husband wasnt there to pull her out she would have died, when the tide came up.

This State employee wasn't too concerned about this frightening incident ! What a jerk !
quicksand, lucky you were with someone.
The only thing that happens is you sink up to your waist- not dangerous
Quicksand doesn't and will never completely engulf someone like in those movies.
