The authorities in Sarajevo have installed protective screens throughout the centre of the Bosnian capital in response to the recent increase in Bosnian Serb sniper attacks.
UN armoured vehicles have also been deployed on the main intersections to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing the streets.
At least 10 civilians were killed or wounded by snipers in Sarajevo in the last two weeks.
These tent-like banners erected on the streets of Sarajevo aren't merely decorative - they could make all the difference between life and death.
A volley of Bosnian Serb sniper fire these last two weeks has left a number of dead and wounded civilians.
And the authorities have had to install "protective screens" once again - a flimsy yet effective cover from enemy snipers.
The "sniper screens" were widely used on the streets of Sarajevo until March last year.
They were removed after the United Nations said it would call on NATO air support if civilians were targeted.
The screens, combined with what cover can be provided by the United Nations' armoured vehicles, allow the besieged people of the city to fetch water with some small sense of protection.
Meanwhile, a force of 60 French United Nations peacekeepers have dug into position on Mount Igman, which overlooks Sarajevo and has been used during the war to launch artillery attacks on the city.
They've vowed their large mortars will be used should they come under attack.
It's a further show of strength by the United Nations, embarrassed and angered by the seizing of many of their number by the Bosnian Serbs as hostages.

Both France and Britain have been moving extra troops into the former Yugoslavia, forming a formidable Rapid Reaction Force.
On Saturday, the French soldiers refused to be drawn on whether or not they were part of that new force, and what their wider orders included.

The moral of the story is when you have criminals with military weapons you deal with them with full force. NATO should have napalmed the Jewish cemetery where many of the Serb snipers were located. They should have flattened the fire bases from which the shells were coming. The first day.
I am a serb myself and condemn what those bastard did with sarajevo, dont get me wrong but you can blame the whole nation because of actions of few hundred people, normaln people still hang out with different religions and nationalities and we love eachother. Atrocities were done on all sides of the war, but i cant hate every muslim because 100 slaughterwd and chopped heads off. Normaln people still suffer here 25 years after the wat, because afterall this was a war of old bitter politicians who divided then conquered its individual nationalities

Znate gdje je bio snajper. Neko je to nacrtao. U bijelom neboderu iza muzeja.odakle su pucali i prema zeljeznickoj stanici. Imaju 4.visoka nebodera. A sto je intetesantno prolaz ili prostor za pucanje je izmedju visomih zgrada( vlada BiH) i ovih nizih ovdje na ovoj ulici. Nije imao ni 20 metara vidik.ali ga je nasao...
Zanima me odakle ti ta informacija, ko je to nacrtao? Ja živim u jednom od tih bijelih nebodera. Grbavica je bila pod kontrolom VRS-a, osim blokade na vrbanji od strane francuskih brigada UN-a. A što se tiče same lokacije, ovaj neboder ima idealan pogled na Stari Grad, tad nije bilo SCC-a, par niskih zgradica i puno opcija za srpske snajpere da terorišu...
@@DaReales2 pa, bio kamerman u potkrovlju.nako sto se VRS.povukao. on je pucao kroz jednu rupu velicine kvadrata 10cm puta 10 cm. Lezo je na nekom madracu.potrbuske. okolo je imo nekih ormara.dasaka. lezaj bio u iglu od 30 stepeni. I odlicno je vidio do raskrsnice gore kod pro credit bank. A ima jos jefan snimak( sad se tesko nadje kad se porodica vratila u stan.neboder u kojem je sad apoteka Grbavica kod Osn.skole. bila izbijena cigla ili rupa u zidu prema Marsalki ono sto je sad sruseno. Te njihove rovove u zgradama je obisao TV Hajat odmah iza napustanja( snimka bas tih nema sad). Jak rov je bio u zgradi preko puta Loris.ogroman bunker.sa velikim prorezom blize semaforu. Onda jak bunker je bio u onoj zgrafi( ima snimak) u zgradi na 2 spratu.odmah uz Ohr.odlican pogled na Vrbanju most. Ukucaj Grbavica izace ti nesto...ima ponesto.
