    You will get better yield when you add the sulfuric acid along the reaction using stirring. The reaction will start even without sulfuric acid, but it stops when there is enough water, then you need to add some of the acid. There are a lot less side reactions that way.

    Never distill the dried liquid with the hydrated desiccant still in there because it will give back the water to it when heated.

      Only if the hydrate decomposes below the boiling point of the distillate.
