    Great to see you smashing it out!
    Just in time for the long Canadian winter. Lol.
    I know what missing a season is like and I feel for you.
    On a brighter note, I'm not going down the Mercedes route now I don't need to pull the sump. I acquired my wife's Mom spec 4B11 Lancer which I'm going to do a mild turbo kit on and daily. We've owned it since new and done 190,000kms so it's part of the family now.

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад

      Haha hate the winter. Hope I didn't scare you away from Mercedes. They are great cars but cant deny they break down more than twice as much as any japanese car. Lancers a great choice for a daily. You'll save many hours from being spent in the garage

    • @1one3_Racing
      @1one3_Racing 6 лет назад

      Lancer wasn't my choice. I was chasing 250kW. I still haven't got my licence back so I sold my car and bought my wife a new car. She loves her old car so I'm not allowed to sell it. Our daughters will need a car in a few years so I'll get something g fast then. Until then I'm stuck with the Lancer so I'll add a small turbo and remove it later.....

    Your videos should have 1 million views each!! These are the most informative videos on any car I've seen on RUclips.
    I have a 2004 S55 AMG and i've noticed that the engine on the S55 is better thought of in some aspects... for example the oil pan is normal not with these 2 pools like the E55, and it also has a normal dip stick, but these are things i'm sure you already know about :)
    Also my supercharger has the part number A1130900580 while others have A1130900280 i've heard that the A1130900580 is better but i don't know why, maybe you can tell me that.
    Anyway, i love your channel. Keep up the good work

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, I definitely prefer the simpler oil pump design in the S55. Less to go wrong. I actually have both the supercharger part numbers but putting them side by side I could not tell a difference. Maybe its something internal or in the materials used in the construction that is different but they both look exactly the same.

    13L, that's a lot. Quite curious as the manual says about 9L are required for an oil change. However that means that there are still 3-4L lurking around. Wonder were, as the quantity is quite big. My guess would be oil cooler, oil filter housing, cam and crank brearing lubrication system, and what else?

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад

      Oh, will look into that. How long did you run it on the breakin oil? For the full oil change interval or just the initial breakin period?

    • @tischlerbmw21
      @tischlerbmw21 6 лет назад +1

      SK8215 I ran it for 400 miles, that’s the max life of the breakin oil. It’s guaranteed to seat the rings. Kind of expensive but this is one part of the rebuild you don’t want to go cheap on. The machine shop who resurfaced my heads, recommended this oil, they have never had any issues with improper break-in.

    No supercharger why I understand a bigger intake manifold feed the engine more air but why don't you try to get a aftermarket supercharger the supercharger helps with the turbolag and it gives you instant power

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад +3

      Yeh, I was running a supercharger and turbos on the previous setup. It works well but wouldn't say its worth the extra weight if the lag isn't that bad anyways

    • @two_number_nines
      @two_number_nines 6 лет назад +3

      the supercharger adds a lot of weight both just as a static mass and as a crankshaft flywheel and also acts as a constant load dropping down the energy efficiency of the engine therefore the power output isnt as good. just slapping on a beefy turbocharger will have some lag, but will save weight and add power, because it puts exhaust gasses in use. a skilled driver will have the proper throttle control to make sure the turbolag isn't that much of a problem and its possible to put antilag on the turbo. there is a reason most racecars and especially drag cars avoid superchargers as much as possible

    • @conserp
      @conserp 6 лет назад

      @@xfmotorsports yea you did say that supercharger had some weight on it. I love your rebuild video I am Inspired get started on a engine project on my own I am looking at a BMW's E38 V12 i know it a heavier engine alot more moving parts with the engine but i love the rich sound that a V12 make don't get me wrong I love the roar of a V8 and the engine has least moving parts and most auto sports uses V8s but I can't wait to check the engine and get my hands on it I wanted a Mercedes Benz V12 engine but the BMW I can afford to get my hands on to work on it

    • @conserp

    • @ravisuri7617
      @ravisuri7617 6 лет назад +1

      @@kayzrx8 I'm not taking about castrol in general but about castrol GTX in specific...here in the UK it's a high mileage oil designed for older engines with higher mileage and actually in some cases swells up orings to prevent leaks. Oils such a motul 300v have good thermal volatility and are designed for highly stressed high revving turbo/ supercharged applications.

      Yeh, the stock ecu does like to hunt down the 10's. I don't know how it is with the reflash but using an FIC I noticed it would tend to go rich after some time and I had to reset the ecu again by unplugging the 5 connectors on the ecu. You can try resetting it and see if it returns to normal. Do a few runs after so it learns the injectors and everything. Let me know if you have any luck

    • @elevatedperformance
      @elevatedperformance 6 лет назад

      would disconnecting the rear battery, or reflashing cause it to reset adaptations. because I've retuned already 2 times since it aroused the rich problem.

    • @elevatedperformance
      @elevatedperformance 6 лет назад

      also how dangerous is it for the motor, because its not running rich on the ignition cycle its strictly on full throttle. and I'm being told that a stock e55 will run 10.1 afr's up top. Im just nervous about washing the cylinders

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      I don't think unplugging the main battery would reset it because there's two batteries. You might have to unplug both of them. I find unplugging the ecu much easier. 10 Afr's shouldn't cause damage considering how rich these cars run from the factory. It just won't make the optimum power

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад

      I bought them from my local dealership but I didn't have to go oversized. Did you check if its the crank or the inside of the con rod that's worn?
      You can try measuring the clearance with another con rod on the same crank journal. If its just the rod thats worn, it wouldn't be too bad replacing that. But yeh try asking your dealers, I believe they should sell oversized ones if you end up needing them.

    • @Mccyh
      @Mccyh 6 лет назад

      From my case, its a M112K engine, one of the Rod bearing flew out and making knocking sound, the exact rod was lost round due to knocking and the crankshaft journal have 0.2mm(diameter) worn out compare to others. Asked the local dealer and the parts supplier who specialize in mercedes benz said they couldn't source any oversize bearing for my car.

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад +2

      Oh. Seems pretty bad because I'm guessing the crank would require machining too. I guess the best bet might be to look for a used crankshaft if the block is okay. Sometimes it works out better just buying a used engine if you find a good price. Hope you get it fixed one way or the other

    Also 20w50 is unusual for MB engines ,is it MB 229.5 spec ?

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      Its normal. A good 3 liters of oil goes in the heads and oil galleries. For an oil change only the pans are drained so this much oil isn't needed. I won't using 229.5 spec oil because this engine is for track use only. This is not the final oil either. I usually change the oil after every one or two track days, usually going with thicker performance oil. Normal oils are not meant for that type of use.

      @Leo555ZZZ 6 лет назад

      SK8215 Is oil pressure and oil flow the same thing ? 20w50 is pretty thick ,low flow , especially at cold temp starts like you have in Canada sometimes. Most MB engines run 0w40.

    • @xfmotorsports
      @xfmotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      Yeh, definitely not ideal for cold temperatures. I wont be using this in the winter or even on the streets. Its just for track use where the oil temps usually stay around 90-100 degrees C. For that type of use a thicker oil works better.
      Depends on your application, this won't be ideal for everyone

      My stick 2011 Subaru Forester with a 2.5L petrol engine has an EGR cooler and valve. SK8215 is right, more common than you think on petrol engines.

      Its actually one of those belts with cuts in it. Its supposed to prevent the belt from cracking over time. I'll have to see how well it works

    Why ditch the Supercharger? I guess you're not using the engine at track under 4000rpm but still I think it's treason. Up the speed, and cool the charge more.

      The intercooler underneath it is fairly small so its impossible to keep the intake temps low while on the track. It depends on the power goals really but I was running the turbos at 15psi last time. This time I want to go 20psi. The stock supercharger wouldn't make boost levels that high anyways and its not worth keeping it just to avoid turbo lag

    Hate when they manufacture the engine with plastic pulleys, they suck and for the price of that car they shouldn't cheap out on such a simple part
