Congratulations on the new machine @tobyst4174. I have actually just ordered the longer 1050mm overarm for the stand as the standard one which i thought would work (and did on my old machine) is just a little short for both the saw and jointer. Do you have the standard length overarm, (i think it's around 750mm) or did you get the longer one?
Hi Bryce, nice videos thanks for sharing, I have a question, I own KF500 and AD741, and I do not have a power feeder yet, I'm happy to get your advice on this: 1. I'm looking to buy the F38, but I'm wondering what If I'd like it not to be parmenantly mounted to the machine, rather only mount it before I use (space problem) do you think it will be possible? 2. I saw you've upgraded the machine to the 7th series Congrats! what is the main difference between the old and new power feeders? only the variable speed? I'm looking for something that would be smaller and more for safety reasons as I'm not using the shaper so much because of it. be happy to hear your opinion! Thanks for sharing and good luck! H
Hi @hagaitzadok, Thanks for watching the video, Are you just looking at adding the power feeder to just the KF500? If that's the case, and you have enough space, i would definitely recommend the tilt away bracket with the gas strut. The power feeders are very heavy, and i definitely wouldn't want to be putting it on and off. They are game changers though for the shaper, not only for the safety aspect, but you will see much better results with your machining. Just note, that although there are 8 speeds on the F38, that is 4 forward, and 4 reverse. On top of that, 2 of each of those speeds you need to open the feeder up to change gearing, so in all reality, it is a 2 speed machine, with an option to change those two speeds via the gear change. I ended up going with a 4 wheel variable speed Comatic feeder for the new machine and so far i am very impressed. Part of the reason for my upgrade was to go to a 3 phase machine as my old one was single phase. I'm not sure if it is simply the difference between single and three phase, or just the heavier duty build of the 700 series over the 500 series, but it is a lot quieter! In the last weeks leading up to the new machine being delivered, i was very nervous, wondering if i had done the right thing spending all that money on the new machine as the old one was still running perfectly. Well after just a few weeks of use, i can definitely say it was a good decision. There are so many seemingly small but significant upgrades that i now know i have made a good decision.
Are you thinking of straight line rip cuts? I very occassionally use the feeder on my saw to do that, but not very often. When would you be using a feeder with the saw?
@ No, not SL rip cuts. I was thinking for ripping with the fence when there are a lot of boards to process when using the rip fence. I don’t currently have a sliding table saw so I might be wrong.
@@user-tm8tm6qf2c Ah right i see. So you ideally you would have a feeder that would tilt away when not in use. That's the set up i have on my machine. I have a Comatic DC 40 on this machine, and had a Felder F38 on my last machine. Pretty sure they are made by Maggi, or Steff. They're all great feeders. I have to say though, i am loving the DC 40. Maybe not quite the quality of the Euro made stuff, but still great, and the DC motor is fantastic. Being able to dial in the speed i want on the fly is much nicer than the geared option on my old machine. Hope that helps.
Nice usage of the power feeder!! I just got the same machine, time to test it out.

@@hagaitzadok I meant to write back a couple of days ago as i checked the weight of the feeder. It's 29kg, and the stand is 34.5kg, so very heavy.
What brand of power feeder do you recommend for a sliding table saw. Thanks.

@@brycecomerwoodworks Yes. It does. I currently have a Delta Unisaw and until I get a slider I won’t understand the real differences in ripping. Thx.
