I'm leaving for boot camp in Feb 26. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan I'll be a CS in the Navy. I have a bunch of questions and I feel like I've learned more from watching RUclips videos than from my recruiters. Glad to have found your channel. Please keep em coming. You've got a consistent viewer.
Same for me when i joined my recruiter wasnt a cs so he couldn't tell me much about our rate so i had to watch RUclips videos and ask questions. Good look bro and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for the video brother. I'm a CS and been juggling between doing shore duty or get out. I want to do barracks so I can finish my schooling. Take it easy shipmate!
Thanks this gives me hope. Hubs just enlisted and got CS and your other video about life as a CS as sea got me worried I would barely see him. But 3 or 4 years of those long hours is such a long time :(
Yes being on sea duty as a CS sucks long hours and early mornings, but once he gets on shore duty yall will have so much time together its unreal. It doesn't even feel like your in the navy anymore on shore duty..lol.
I was shore duty and assigned as BPO. I was in charge of the female barracks. I have civilians that works for me. My job was to open each room so I can watched them clean the room. I do room inspection but I never did any cleaning. We have 2 hrs lunch and I live inside the base with my wife. That’s the best shore duty of my 20 years in the navy.
Great videos and information, my son is army 92golf he is split oops and will be at Ait next year. I am trying to encourage him to go to school too. Congratulations on you baby!
First you have to wait until your 2 year mark in the navy and fill out something called a seaway application this will ask if you want to stay in rate or cross rate. It all depends on if your rate is overmanned or undermanned. Its something you would have to talk to your career Counselor about. Yes you asvab score will play a role in what job you can switch to, so score as high as possible.
question: i heard going certain places counts as sea duty even if youre on land so i could technically do my first contract on land and have it be considered sea duty?
Khal Drogo yes that is true certain sea duty commands are not attached to a ship so you could spend your first four or five years on land. You could still do a deployment here and there but you won’t be attached to the ship working on it everyday and going out to sea every time the ship goes out to sea.
The Official Dave Harris in situations like these, could a married person circumstantially do their first 5 years on land per say (or a minimum of 4 since it’s on their contract) and their spouse live with them? Then be able to leave the military after honoring their contracted time period? I believe you answered this question in the beginning, just wanting it direct if possible
Aren’t you guaranteed at least two weeks of leave upon graduation of A school? I’m going to boot camp this June as a CS and I never heard of not getting leave and going straight to your first command after A school.
But since I would be going to a ship does that mean I deploy immediately or the ship is just docked at my base also if I’m assigned to a ship am I sleeping on the ship or in the barracks
@@stephenmarshall9153 you will only go deployment when your ship is due to, so it all depends on your ship. Some people get flown out to there ship straight out of A school and go on deployment. You will most likely have to stay on the ship for 6 months then you will be able to live in the barracks. If you have dependents you will be able to get a place out in town or stay in militay housing.
Hey I’m looking to join up and I want to be a CS. Your videos have been really helpful. How do you choose where you want to go? What’s the training after basic? What should I ask the recruiter?
After basic training you will go to A school. there you will learn about your rate. Then you will go to your first ship. Just tell the recruiter your intentions of becoming a CS you dont have to score high on the asvab to be a CS.
Travel Gang Update I got the CS position and I’m leaving for bootcamp on the 24 if this month. I’ve got cold feet about bootcamp do you have any suggestions?
@@justbeonfire5454 congratulations make sure you get as much sleep as you can the day before because soon as you get off the bus for bootcamp you will be up for at least 48 hours straight. Also learn you general orders and chain of command that will help you a lot aslo.
Hi! I’m heading to bootcamp on Feb. 20 and my job is a CS as well. I don’t want to get shipped overseas so is there a way I can request to stay in the U.S during A-School?
Of course you can upon your graduation of A school you will have the choice to pick east coast west coast or overseas. Its no guarantee because the navy well put you wherever they need you at the end of the day, but it wont hurt to try.
Taste Buddz oh ok Im going in as an E3 and I leave in January with the CS rate, I wanted to do college online but it seemed impossible the with the way you explained the CS rate but I guess it’s possible only if you end up on shore duty correct?

You will be stationed in a ship for your first contract that’s is usually 4 1/2 year then if you re enlist you will get stationed somewhere else on land which is called shore duty for 3 years. There you will have more time for family.
@@destinygo4616 yes you will still be able to see your family while you are on the ship. So think of the ship being where you work.
