In my 96 I had an issue with passkey fault light flashing the car was doing the same thing starts for a second and dies I wiggled the passkey fault wires next to the brake puddle and the passkey light stopped flashing car runs again. Btw I have resistors connected to the passkey wires it’s from the previous owner. Also, when I remove the passkey fuse the passkey light will not illuminate in the cluster and the car will start for 1 or 2 seconds and dies. So check that it might be it, and sorry for any language mistakes I’m learning English (:

Power probe the cluster harness until it dies out, then compare it to the harness for the plug in harness. Whichever pin causes it to die out will be the culprit.

Well now it dies out no matter what

@otgmechanic Doesn't the tac feed run to the ICM? If that was a short couldn't it have fried the ICM and now make it die out constantly??

Couldn't find anything in the wire diagram for the cluster that could cause the issue? Seems like something with the communication of the cluster to the PCM

Thats what im thinking. Im just going to have to pull the harness or something idk

Aint worth your time. It's something simple, but the issue is the time to get to that "simple" Try a different PCM?

Man you already narrowed it down to the cluster/dash wiring. Trace down that extra added wiring in the kick panel and maybe even behind the radio if the radio has been changed? People do crazy stuff with aftermarket wiring, seen it for 25+years! It's got to be only one wire back feeding ground or something. Put ALL wiring back factory as possible 🙏 pull the whole dash apart if needed. You'll get it 👍 might be in the tilt column too??? Try moving that for the hell of it?

Check the pcm and wiring from the pcm. It’s definitely a wire issue. A wire is back feeding

Otg you might have to trace wire running from pcm to the cluster to see if it"s not pinch or burn from the manifold because over years wires get loose from original hold down/ work on! Anyway you put it, it's pian in the you know what!!!😒👎👎

    1. Odometer on the cluster didn’t used to illuminate. resoldered the cluster to get it to illuminate. Solder job now has created a short for one of the pcm signals which MAY have shorted the pcm. If u put it back together and it won’t restart it probably fried the PCM at this point. If u not too far I’ll come take a look at it since I’m patnas with the dude u got the car from. Hit him up and tell him give u my number, trust me it ain’t worth giving up on bro. Just some tedious electrical diag. If u can in advance get the wiring diagram for the pcm & cluster and I’ll come help u no charge.

Its somethen thats pinned wrong on the harness once the voltage come up the PCM notices it and cuts it off

More than likely somebody added some aftermarket parts and screwed up the wiring... If possible can you find another wiring harness or swap the wiring from the inside...

If you are losing ignition, something is interrupting timing or fuel signals to the PCM. With wacky behavior like this, I'd try another PCM, or look for chafing that is crossing the alternator control wire with one of the opti low or high resolution wires, or the MAF return wire. Also check the 5V reference supplies and grounds to both the optispark and the MAF to see if either is getting crossed with the alternator supply wire. eehack will also be invaluable here; turn the key on, start eehack, then try to start the car. Watch the sensor inputs and rpm closely and see which one drops. That's your problem.

The alternator control wire runs in the passenger side harness to the passenger side bulkhead and then in the car to the fuse box. See if there is any damage to the passenger side harness; the optispark signal wires run in that area as well.
