    Like the doctor I've considered writing books on gambling as I did my sister's PhD on the evils of video games written firsthand by myself in 1982 as I play pinball machines about 12 hours a day everyday since about age 4 and a half years old. I've seen it all from day one with pong.

    Thank you! Still listening but the sports betting is very interesting. For me, sports betting hasn’t been a part of my addiction, but I know it affects so many people in such negative ways.

    I just got into gambling this year when it became legal in my state ... was down huge, like really huge over 30k then literally put my whole life on the line in order to get back to zero on a football game. Fortunately the game went my way and I got back to zero then caught a win streak to finish a few thousand in the positive ... I need to walk away now.
    Got lucky and it all worked out in the end but next time it might destroy me.

      You represent the target audience that I always wanted to reach.
      I went through the exact same thing as you, but then I kept going in the psych repeated itself for six years until eventually it didn’t all work out.
      If you are able to successfully maintain that mindset and leave it behind, it would be the greatest decision of your life

    A popular argument against banning just about anything is that a ban merely pushes things "underground".
    Whatever you think about the legality of sports betting, though, I think it's indisputable that it would be _way_ better if sports betting were underground than the way it is right now.

    • @OdaatGamblingAwareness
      @OdaatGamblingAwareness  Месяц назад +1

      The main defenses with that point is to localize the tax revenue (which doesn’t get given to anything useful to problem gamblers anyways) and allow for player safety protections to be regulated (which are self regulated by the gambling industry and don’t help problem gamblers but rather exploit them)
      I might have to agree w you here

      @Lifelongloser 26 дней назад

      Except that by pushing it underground the criminals making money from it would cause more crime and problems when laundering the money, fighting for supremacy, cheating gamblers and encouraging addicts. In the UK betting companies no longer encourage addicts and people like me -who had never a gambling problem- already have huge problems getting online bets on in anything like the amounts I would like.

      Look man, you’re WINNING IF you stop at a mere 7 to 8 grand. Just look at life fresh, dont gamble, and go back to doing the right things every single day and you can make that 8 grand debt disappear and you'll be on your way to freedom and success.
      I lost over 70 grand over couple of years. I chased when i lost only 20, then it got to 40, and then finally 70 is when i turned a new leaf.
      I took consolation in the fact that i can possibly put myself into an irreversible pit of $700 grand or more of debt, so I committed to living a faithful life, and for the past 10+ years (my last bet was in 2013) i have not only covered the debts/loss but now living successfully and financially free.
      You can as well since youre only at a mere 7000 dollars. DONT CHASE IT. see it as a small price for a life lesson that you will value forever. $7000 is a small price tag.

    A good step, I think, would be to make every casino/sportsbook be transparent about what the house edge on their games is (and to give tobacco-like notices about how house edges work).
    It would force more honest advertising, but there would be some opportunities created within that. You could say something like "we only take 2% vig compared to competitors' 5%!". That would be honest advertising that shows off something your product genuinely offers.

    Hey there,
    It's just like a pandemic worldwide. I'm from Brazil and the situation here is also getting worse and worse.
    I myself have lost thousands of dollars/Brazilian Real sports betting and playing casino online. Just yesterday I lost 1K and am feeling pretty miserable this morning. I'm depressed and even thought about committing suicide at some point. My gambling addiction seems to be out of control. I don't have a single penny in my bank account to buy food or even have my hair cut. I don't know what to do.
    I firmly believe that I got to the point where there's no more getting away from it. I have no hopes anymore. 😢

    There are accidental casino tricks for example when basketball score goes from 9 to 10 to double digits more people will be willing to start betting then on live betting which is another category of sports betting that allows you to lose more people think they have more control over live betting but in long run lot of mistakes can be done by players who do live betting

    • @Bensway7
      @Bensway7 Месяц назад +1

      and one more accidental casino trick is sports team mindwash where loser teams try to trick fans and gamblers that they didnt suck and lost by 19 or 9 pts instead 20 and 10 but its almost same thing and reverse is winner teams dont care that they lose by 5 or 15 its loss anyway, so people who focus more on scores they get tricked by not important efforts by teams who try to form wrong perception about statistics so they dont get insulted by newspapers or something but gamblers get tricked and they care what happened too much and dont realise that new event will be with wrongly formed knowledge and it will be betted agressively, someone laugh at me and dont understand this but its like the engine probably why people become homeless from betting on sports.
