hi ! cool video ! thnx ! wanted to ask you if the poem/quote ( from the beginning of the movie) is in the book? (the quote i am referring to is when Paolo-B talks about the daughters being in a garden etc .. ) thnx !
Hello there! I'm afraid there was no such poetry at the beginning of the book. De Sade may have been a talented writer with a *vivid* imagination, but he was devoid of the kind of depth and humanity that Pasolini managed to weave into the movie here and there. I really appreciate your feedback! Please consider subscribing if you haven't yet, and make a request if you're interested in something I haven't covered yet!
That's a tough one, considering the subject matter! I say the book was better. While the subject matter is appalling, it's a deep insight into a twisted mind. I found the movie to be comparatively ludicrous. I'm glad you like the video! Please subscribe if you don't already, and feel free to make a request!
@@books_2_movies Nice. I personally found the film more interesting because of Pasolini’s artistic intentions with De Sade’s work, and how it relates to his personal experience with a society he hated and how evil fascism can be. While De Sade wrote the manuscript purely to fill every inch of it with shock value and abhorrent procedures. My guess of why Pasolini chose to tone-down the content was that it would ruin the structure of his message. (There’s a full essay video on the films message if you really want an explanation: ruclips.net/video/DTi2veLTxpI/видео.html ) But anyways. Here’s a sub!
Thank you! I really appreciate your support! My own thoughts behind Pasolini's adjustments in the adaptation include the opposition between those who opposed fascism from the get go, and those who were butthurt by it's downfall when the Axis folded. It's also obvious to me that he included little glimpses of hope and humanity in his film because he has it, despite taking on this book for film adaptation. Whereas, the original author, de Sade, is entirely devoid of it.
Well, I am familiar with both the book by de Sade and this movie. And this movie is probably as close to the book as a THEATRICAL DRAMATIC film could ever get. Cause if a movie got too faithful to that novel then it would probably end up being, in effect, highly illegal scat/kiddie/zoo/snuff porn that would get the makers imprisoned or executed..
Indeed! The filmmakers of "Cannibal Holocaust" and "Flowers of Flesh and Blood" found themselves in legal hot water! Yet, for what I've read about those films, they are still nowhere near the content of this book!
i just started watching salo and was wondering if i should leave it off and pick up the book instead. by these 2 comments ima keep watching the movie instead of the book. nice@@books_2_movies
I agree, people hype up this movie a bit more than it deserves. I would say there were only two scenes in it that I found super disturbing. One of them was when they were selecting the victims and the young women is brought in and she's crying.
Yes, the same girl who was made to *ahem* eat off the floor when she cried because she was reminded of the mother she recently lost by one of their douchey anecdotes.
@@books_2_movies I think for me the reason why that first scene bothered me so much when I first watched it is because unlike the other victims that had been shown up till that point she seemed genuinely upset about what was happening. I remember the first time I saw that I could feel how humiliated she must've felt in that situation.
Definitely, this movie took place right at the end of WW2. So if memory serves, these victims were war orphans as well, which compounds the cruelty of bringing them in and auditioning them as playthings.
@@books_2_movies The other thing in this movie that I found super disturbing was how the 4 guys treated their own daughters. I think that's the one thing that was more disturbing in the movie than in the book, the treatment of the libertine's own daughters.
They're monsters of the worst kind! This all came from a truly depraved imagination! Have you read the book? I have had nightmares from it, not exaggerating! It seems to me like horror movies and psychological thrillers these days are in constant competition to outgun each other in the shock, gore, and depravity. So far as I know, A Serbian Film didn't come from a book. I'm loathe to find out if it does, that would make it channel fodder, and so many of us are morbidly curious, but when do we say "enough, can't take anymore. Even if it is fake." Sorry for the run-on soapbox there 😊 However, I sincerely appreciate your viewership. I think that those, including the reviewer in this video, who hear about THIS movie before seeing it tend to get an advance notion that it'll be some hard-core porn fest, which it isn't. It's a drama and a bit of a black comedy too.
I was a little nervous as I put the Blu ray in and pressed play because all the movie blogs said this one's a gut churner. When it was over I was wondering what all the fuss was about. Everything looked fake and sounded silly. I'm not even touching 50 shades! 😂 Thank you for your feedback!
@@books_2_movies i Had to do the Feedback, i watched the movie yesterday. It’s a little Bit like hostel. But in style of the 70 ˋ s. Good they didnt Had a nutcracker in the Movie 😵💫😵💫😵💫🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@books_2_movies it sounded maybe silly, cause the words where maybe from the Book of Marquis de Sade who Lived 1740-1814? And he Showed us what humans can do who have the Power and Money. Maybe it was a political movie, too? Politicians may eat caviar in bad times, and some don’t care - eat 💩💩💩💩🤷🏻♀️. Like the pandemic showed us How much politicians care about people. People of the street, or lockdown humans for weeks up, and don’t Even sent food to them. All criminals. I hoped for a second part of That movie, ok, not really. But i wanted to know If the 4 perverts , the prostitudes and helpers got punished. But what i know, no chocolade Pudding for me the Next view weeks 🙀🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nope, they didn't. The book didn't really have a conclusion because de Sade was sprung from the Bastille before he could finish, and missed his chance to take it with him. Basically, after all the duke-eating got boring, they transgressed generally into incest, bestiality, and hurtcore. Getting worse with each page.
amazing video i wanna read the book now. but thanks for the great explanation.
Thank you! I hope you have a strong stomach!

nice video, but there's a high pitched whine in the background
I since got rid of that USB mic!

Ok, drama I get.
Where do you get the element of black comedy from? I'm curious
@@books_2_movies Some bits in the movie strike me as intending to be perversely satyrical, including that scene you cited at 7:32 for example.
Ahh yes. “Eye bleach” is indeed correct! This one was quite a trip
It was! I'm telling you, if I didn't know which book the movie came from, I would have thought this was some kind of raunchy dark comedy.
Yooo I saw it but not fully couldn't finish, shit worse than the human centipede 💯💯💯💯
The first human centipede or one of the sequels? I haven't seen any of them yet.
