Thanks! Great information. I would like to get started in making rings and pendants and this is an excellent starting point. Your jewelry is beautiful!
Hi, thanks for sharing all this info! I want to start making rings and bought all the tools that you recommend to get started a few months ago! I’m so overwhelmed/confused with how to understand the websites to buy metals to do so. Have you ever made a video on what you’ve ordered off of monsterslayer? Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Madison, the Metal Starter Pack video includes all the silver I order from Monsterslayer.com. Their website is a little outdated and can take some time to learn. You could also check out riogrande.com for silver. However, there turnaround times are much slower that's why I recommend monsterslayer.com
I agree Monster Slayer website is very difficult to understand. However, I'm so very grateful you are honest to let us know where the best deals are. I'm still trying to learn.
I do not purchase from Rio Grande anymore. I prefer monsterslayer.com or halsteadbead.com. I found they have better prices, far better turn around times and customer service! This is a great idea though and I could do it for necklace chains in general!
This video has almost everything ive been searching for.. A couple of questions though. How about Stone setting round wire. What gauges would you use for making settings like a basket setting etc? or does it vary by stone size? 2nd Question. What would you recommend for mens rings? Usually they are thicker, wider etc.
I don't have any experience with basket/prong setting unfortunately. Only bezel setting! I haven't made a men's ring myself, however there are other wires that would work great for a thicker, sturdier ring such as #3 low dome wire!
This is great, thank you! Do you have any tips on purchasing stamps and stones? When attempting to purchase, I can't figure out if a stone will be short enough for my bezel wire. Also, I'm not sure what size stamps to order for a certain gauge of wire. Have a wonderful day 😊
Hi there! I usually purchase an assortment of stamps that I used both on silver wire and silver sheet depending on the size of the stamp! I usually stamp on 6-8 gauge half round wire so I will buy stamps based off the dimensions of those wires. As for bezel wires, I use 1/8” and 3/16” most often! For really small stones I will opt for 3/32” 😊
As a Artisan Ring Maker and Silversmither I would recommend a respirator with organic filters in that starter pack. Metal is toxic and never leaves your system when you breath the metal shavings and dust in. #inlayedcreationsllc
Thanks for a great video! Trying to order 22g SS from Rio Grande… not sure if you’ve ordered from them but you can order by inches or oz. Can you recommend a standard size or oz to start with? Thanks!!
I usually use dead soft for all of my silver (back plates, ring bands, bezels, etc.) It's much easier to work with and can easily be work hardened with the use of a mallet :)
Been trying to figure out when to use dead soft, half soft, half hard, and hard. Any help? I'm about to put an order through with Rio grande, but want to be certain I'm not buying the wrong material for my rings.
I use dead soft for almost everything. I personally don't have any use for half hard/hard. They are much harder to work with. Dead soft makes the silver much more pliable and easier to work with and you can always work hardened the metal to meet your needs!
Again! This is so what I needed to learn❤❤❤❤❤
This is the best silversmith video thus far!! Thank you so much, and thanks for all the links too hehe
Thanks for going into detail in your videos and sharing your advice. Your jewelry is lovely!

I love silver, almost obsessed with it actually, but it's just so expensive, even sterling is crazy.
This is great - wondering if you might consider doing the same with the various types of chain options available at Rio Grande?
I do not purchase from Rio Grande anymore. I prefer monsterslayer.com or halsteadbead.com. I found they have better prices, far better turn around times and customer service! This is a great idea though and I could do it for necklace chains in general!

Oh wow that is very good to know. Thank you! Is there a specific one you’d recommend?
More on the double half rd. sizes!
I’ll add it to my list!
Thank you
You're welcome 😊
How do you purchase on monster slayer??? I want to get the flat wire but can’t find it!!
En Europe, il existe les épaisseurs correspondantes en mm. Par exemple, Une plaque argent 950 recuit en 0,70 mm.
22 gauge : 0.644 mm

8 : 3,26
6 : 4,12

Thanks you, is very informative. One question, why fine silver for the besel and not sterling. it's because it's softer
Yes!
Thanks for this ! Do you think that 22/24 gauge sheet could be cut with shears or would it need a saw ?
You could do shears but it might be a little tricky! I’d recommend a saw 😊
Thanks for a great video!
Trying to order 22g SS from Rio Grande… not sure if you’ve ordered from them but you can order by inches or oz. Can you recommend a standard size or oz to start with?
Thanks!!
I usually order by inches in either 6x6 cuts or 3x3 cuts
@@SpiritMountainSilver Thank you!
Does it matter what hardness the backplate and bezel wires are (ie. 1/2 hard, spring-hard, 1/4 hard)?
I usually use dead soft for all of my silver (back plates, ring bands, bezels, etc.) It's much easier to work with and can easily be work hardened with the use of a mallet :)
What kind of silver wire and gauge do you use for a jump ring? I forgot to buy it when I purchased my silver 😅
I like to use 16 ga and 18 ga half round wire for jump rings!😊
Thank you. I use a lot of gallery wire for the bezel. I buy a lot from Riogrande. Do you have a good source for your silver?
Monsterslayer.com !
What would you recommend using to make a belt buckle ?
I am not sure honestly. Haven't made one before- I'm sorry!
what type of finish do you use for your backplate?? I have noticed theres mirror and brush finish but I am not sure of the difference!
I have always worked with brushed finish silver sheet :)
Dove si può acquistare questo materiale
what is the best hardness to use for say, bands versus bezel or decor peices to wrap around bezel?
For bezels I like to use fine silver but for band I like sterling silver soft. It’s more pliable and can be easily work hardened!😃
Thank you for sharing! I may have missed it but can you refer the website to purchase the wire from?
Monsterslayer!
Thank you kindly! ☀️
When ordering from monsterslayer what do you put in for the cuts of, and inches?
It depends on the product. For sheet I like to do it in cuts of 6”x6”. For wire for ring bands I like to do 2 feet or more
When buying the silver sheets, what is the usual measurement of the sheet you go for?
I like to do 6x6
So sorry! I have one more question. For the ring band, is it best to get dead soft wire or half hard?
I prefer dead soft! It’s much easier to work with and can easily be work hardened if needed!😃
@@SpiritMountainSilver thank you!!
For the round and Half round wire should be dead soft, half hard or hard ?
Thank you for all the information 💛
I like to work with dead soft for everything as its more pliable and can easily be work hardened if need be! :)
@@SpiritMountainSilver how you hardened?
What is the purpose of having the bezel strips made of 999 opposed to 925 like the backing
more pliable- easier to work with is the main reason.
Do have a recommendation for silver for men’s bracelets
Hmm, I personally have never made a men’s cuff bracelet, but I would recommend either 24 or 26 gauge silver sheet! ☺️
@@SpiritMountainSilver thanks for getting back to me!
Hi! I was wondering where you purchase the big sterling silver sheet metal? I can only find really small ones
monsterslayer.com !
Thank you so much!! ❤️
Do you source your Silver bezel strips from Monster Slayer too? I can’t seem to find them on the website.
I do! It is under .999 fine silver wire section :)
Where does one get sterling silver sheets?
I get all of mine from monsterslayer.com! I have found they are the most affordable. However, I know others get their silver from riogrande.com
Do you recommend half hard or dead soft?
I recommend dead soft! It’s easier to work with and can easily be work hardened if needed!😊
you haven't mentioned if the "sterling Silver 1/2 round wire" was "hard, 1/2 hard, soft". please advise.
I like to use soft
Do you sell silver sheets and wire? If not, where do you get these items?
Thank you.
Monsterslayer.com I found has the best prices on silver. There is additional information In the description of the video if you need it!
😊👍👍

😂Sound Test for Speaker Hook up Jumber wire Video Have too!😊
How big of sheets do you Order of the 22 gauge
I like to do either 6x6 cuts or 3x3 cuts!
What do you use for stackable bracelets/cuffs
I like to use 6 gauge half round wire
@@SpiritMountainSilver thank you 😊
Any tips on where to buy soter??
I purchase all my metal/solder from monsterslayer.com
What type silver and gage do you use for bangles?
I like to use 6-8 gauge for bangles/cuffs!😊
Half round wire!
How much would you say this amount you suggested costs?
It's hard to say because the price of silver changes every day!😕
Been trying to figure out when to use dead soft, half soft, half hard, and hard. Any help? I'm about to put an order through with Rio grande, but want to be certain I'm not buying the wrong material for my rings.

@@redeyestones3738 you're very welcome!! :)
@@SpiritMountainSilver THAT IS GREAT INFO!! Your are awesome!
I think I found the answer to my question 🤩😁
i liked the video but you never mentioned whats best for braclet making
I like to use 6ga half round wire!
😍😎😇
Where do u buy those??
See links in description
Why fine silver for bezels instead of sterling?
Fine silver is much softer and easier to work with than ss! It makes the stone setting process much easier!
Where do u buy them
Links in description!
Buy a wire roller and make your own silver wire and sheet.
Yes. I hope to have one..one day when it’s financially in the cards
Is this silver or just silver color
Sterling silver
Is there a beginner’s kit I can buy?
Not that I know of unfortunately.
