'Changes everything': Jacinta Nampijinpa Price reveals her political turning point

  • Jacinta Nampijinpa Price had been in the federal parliament for less than a year when, as the Coalition’s new spokesperson on Indigenous affairs, she confronted the proposal for the most significant reform in Indigenous affairs since 1967.
Senator Price’s arguments against the Indigenous voice to parliament were potent, characterising it as another layer of bureaucracy. This was devastating for the Yes campaign in the voice referendum because Australians could see how ineffective bureaucracy had been in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Senator Price once worked as a cross-cultural adviser and is seen by many as a bridge between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds. She describes herself with pride as Warlpiri-Celtic and has become a figure in the national debate about Indigenous history.
Senator Price has brought national attention to violence, youth crime, social breakdown and alcohol abuse in Alice Springs, where she grew up. The town’s problems have become ground zero for a debate about policy failure, personal responsibility and child welfare.

That is the problem. She now has to toe the party line. Being a conservative politician will not do her much good. They have not much to show for all their talk, and they are not in government. Professing to know all of the answers is one thing,(No one actually knows that) but being in a position to do anything is another.

That is the sign that she is a leader to be reckoned with. This is her first term in Federal Politics, it has been a rough ride ,and she has come out of it with even more people looking to her for commonsense answers to ever increasingly difficult problems. Well done, your old man must be very proud of you, to say nothing of how Bess is feeling.

She says in her Parliament page, in 2015 I was elected to the Alice Springs Town Council where I fought hard to improve the lives of Indigenous kids and tackled the tough issues that face our community, like domestic violence. Well considering the problems still happening in Alice Springs, I would say she failed. And she has still not put forward any policies towards helping Indigenous people.
Was up in arms attacking the Voice for her people but has been damn quiet ever since then. And she also states she has been giving it to the Left for years. That does not sound like someone interested in finding common ground with the other side.
Like Hanson, Price is in it for what she can gain politically and financially. And as usual, all the people writing comments on here have fallen for it. So many comments crediting Price for doing well, yet I would bet none of you now how many Indigenous people have been very successful long before her. Do any of you know why there is an Indigenous man on the $50 dollar note. Research it.

The Responsibility for Indigenous Affairs, does not lie with a Councillor but with a Minister at State, Territory or Federal level.
Maybe you should highlight the failures of those, Linda Burney and Ken Wyatt in recent times.

@@bush2coast801 Well, in the NT the Indigenous Minister is in Darwin. They organise programs for towns such as Alice and allow services or the councils to run them. Considering my son worked with the Indigenous in the North, he had to organise services and councils to work together to run the programs the Federal Govt had implemented. He also attended a conference at Alice Springs that involved the Services, Council, NT Govt and the Fed Govt. Basically the Fed Govt handed out the money, the NT Govt allocated it and the Councils and Services spent it.
The Minister's in Govt do not run the programs. So, Jacinta would have had access to the Minister to discuss programs and issues and how the NT Govt wanted them to be implemented. Same with the Federal Govt.

As a indigenous man I hope Australia appoint Jacinta to run the country to show how absolutely how incompetent this person is her record in NT politics is atrocious she couldn't even finish a full term when she was elected in Alice Springs did nothing about youth crime or had a positive impact she is absolutely hated in the indigenous community especially her own far as I'm concerned you people can have her

As the Minister for Indigenous Affairs what did Ken Wyatt or Linda Burney do.
They had/have, the responsibility, not someone on Council, which handles Roads, Rates n Rubbish.
Youth Crime is not the responsibility of Council. It is State, Territory and Federal responsibility.
IF and I say IF, the LNP wins the next Election, by all means judge her capacity in real terms. JP will become the Federal Minister for Indigenous Affairs then. Until then, it is just YOUR OPINION. 😉
