Good comments about Hwasa and Na. Here's some more info: Hwasa is the youngest member (the maknae) of Mamamoo. Before people started calling her Queen Hwasa she was aka The Fatal Maknae because she makes everything she sings sound sexy, even children's songs lol. As you probably noticed, Hwasa is curvier than your typical kpop female idol and she doesn't have the usual cute girlish face. Since you're new to kpop you may not know that kpop has rigid standards regarding beauty, fashion and behavior (which includes gender, sexuality, dating and social issues). Before being signed by RBW (MMM's label) for her vocal talent she was rejected at auditions with other companies who told her she had a unique voice but she was fat and ugly. When Mamamoo debuted people petitioned to have her removed from the group. Mamamoo has never fit into any of kpop's standards and consequently they've always been one of kpop's biggest shit magnets, esp Hwasa. Several of her group and solo songs are about all the hate she receives including Mamamoo's biggest hit Hip and Hwasa's biggest solo hit Maria (the name she took when she was baptized as a Catholic). I wouldn't be surprised if the butt lift move in Na was her "cheeky" way of telling haters to kiss her ass. ;) The Mamamoo members are strong women who stand up for themselves and what they believe in and they don't take shit from anyone but they've never cultivated a bad girl image and instead their songs often carry messages of self-love, empowerment and acceptance of others for their uniqueness and individuality. You can see that approach in Na where Hwasa demands respect and mocks her haters but it's in the context of a fun, upbeat, catchy song that celebrates being yourself and letting it all hang out, or as she says at the end, "I do me!" He may have been limiting their songwriting credits to the number of songs they wrote or co-wrote in the full group discography but between their group, solo and subunit songs the Mamamoo members have over 200 songwriting credits. They're not only the vocal gold standard among kpop girl groups, they're creatively involved in all aspects of their career including songwriting (lyrics & music), arranging, choreography, styling and MV concepts. They've released several dozen group, solo and subunit albums and there are literally hundreds of hours of terrific live performances available on yt and their discography is extremely diverse. People say Mamamoo can sing anything and write a song about anything (with a number of crack songs as evidence lol). And, as any moomoo (Mamamoo fan) will tell you, Mamamoo is best when they're live because of their amazing, always live vocals, charismatic stage presence, and bff team chemistry. As someone mentioned, their session in the Dingo Killing Voice series is a great place to start because it will give you an intro to their live vocals via a medley of some of their hits and favorite b-sides between 2014 and 2020 when the video was filmed. Check out everyone who comes across your radar and see who you strikes your fancy. I also enjoy finding lesser known artists who didn't come out of the kpop system such as indie singer-songwriters and groups and soloists doing jazz, hip hop or rock. There's a ton of talent and diversity in Korean music and it's fun to explore it. 😊
