My mom used to watch this show. But not then. She was eighteen and secretly engaged. In June she eloped with my father and they went to a Justice Of The Peace. And they moved into a Duplex and he told her she didn't have to work anymore. Then in August of 1963 I was born.
Much Thanks for this heartwarming Nostalgia. The viewing of these wonderful vintage episodes, makes for a more bearable modern time of sterile computer living, cellphone addicts, & poorly cloned television shows. There is NOTHING that compares to THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF IMAGINATIVE "LIVE" TV, RADIO, FILM, & THEATER. Thank you!
I am imaging my mother watching this episode on our black-and-white, 21-8nch Zenigh television set. I was not yet three years old, and my mom was pregnant with my younger brother. My older brother and sister were in school and my dad was at work, so it was just my mother and I who were at home when this episode first aired. It is an odd feeling seeing this episode today, 65 years later, knowing that I no doubt saw and heard it all those years ago.
What wonderful memories with your dear mother. There was nothing like being at home with your mother and grandmother and watching those treasured soap operas on the old black and white tv set. I miss those special days when people had time for their stories.
MY mom (90) watched this from the beginning!! She would fix her lunch and sit down while this on...She was a very busy stay at home mom!! I remember Lisa,Bob,Penny,Jeff, and all the others!!
Every grandmother and every housewife in eastern North Carolina watched '... World 🌎 Turns ' every single weekday afternoon. Wouldn't miss it! Eileen Fulton (Lisa) is a North Carolina native.
Thanks for posting. This is a gem. I started watching the show in the 1980s but the nucleus of the show was still there. I don't think this is from 1957. Don Hastings (Bob) and Eileen Fulton (Lisa) didn't join the ATWT cast until 1960 and 1961.
My grandmother watched this show from the time it started to the day she passed in 2007. The scenes between Penny and Lisa were absolute cutthroat for it's time. They really did not like eachother.
Bob and Lisa were so cute! Eileen Fulton did an interview with the Television Archives a few years ago, and she mentioned the hand-carved eagle in her and Bob's bedroom set, shown at 0:22. (I think it was supposed to have been a wedding present to them from Grandpa Hughes.) She said that it gave her the creeps and she hated it.
I was 10 days old when this episode aired. When I got older I remember my mom watching soaps but it was General Hospital. I became a fan of ATWT in the mid 70's during the summer and watched it faithfully until they took it off air. I even became a fan of the Young and the Restless and watch that faithfully also. It hurt my soul when they took ATWT off the TV. 😭😭
My grandma back then would HAVE to watch 'her stories'. She would talk about the characters as though they were neighbors and families, shake her head at their stupid mistakes etc.
I did not know that Bob was Lisa's first husband. I watched this show during the 70s and 80s with my grandma. So this was Tom's debut before he's born. Lol
Don Hastings still holds the Record for being the Longest Male Soap Actor in the US but on December 9th William Roache will officially celebrate 60 Years as Ken Barlow on Coronation Street which is now the "Longest" Televised Soap Opera surpassing Guiding Light. He is also in The Guinness Book Of World Records as is Helen Wagner (RIP). I would love where it not for the legalities have Dr. Bob Hughes come to Weatherfield and have it be discovered that he's Ken Barlow's Old Pen Pal. Isn't it ironic that Lisa suggests "Chris" and then he and Kim have a Son named Chris.
These past films are very special because the technology for color television and the transiter hag yet to be invented, the so called computer tunes had just hit the market, Hollywood was on a roll.
Lisa! LOL. I started watching ATWT in the early 60's, but I was really young. I remember in the 70's "finding out" that Lisa used to be married to Bob! Imagine! LOL. Great memories!1
The date is definitely wrong here. It should be 1961. I know this because my mother was like an "As the World Turns" walking encyclopedia when she was alive.
This couldn't be from 1957 because Don didn't start on ATWT until 1960. Don always told a story about he was on EON on Friday and started as Bob the following Monday. So I'm confused?
So Tom Hughes was born in 1961 and then fought in Vietnam. I love classic soaps but SORAS ruined so many timelines. I remember trying to figure out how old Duncan McKechnie was supposed to be after Bonnie was suddenly a young adult
Dayummm! Penny sank her fangs in Lisa's Carotid artery and bled her for all of it. Ssssssssssss, vicious! But I can understand where Penny's coming from. She's fiercely loyal to her friend. And Lisa was getting very snarky, so Penny had to go there with her.
Oh, was that back when Lisa was pregnant with their son, Tom? Hey, wasn't she married over a dozen different times? How did he end up with Kim? But wasn't he married to her sister, Jennifer first? Didn't Bob have daughters with both Jennifer and Kim?! Yeah, I vaguely remember that. Bob's daughter with Jennifer was Barbara, who was a fashion designer. Later, Barbara had a daughter and named her 'Jennifer'. Frannie was Bob's daughter with Jennifer, right? Years later, it was uncovered that he also had a daughter with Kim, Sabrina. Lisa also had a son named 'Scott' too, right? In this episode, it looked like Bob's sister, Penny disliked Lisa. Why was that?
From what I've read, most of that info is accurate. The only differences are: Bob's wife Jennifer had Barbara Ryan with a previous husband, so Barbara was Bob's stepdaughter. That's important because years later Barbara and Tom (Bob's son with Lisa, the one she is pregnant with in this episode), former step-siblings, will date and almost marry! (Barbara left Tom at the altar to run off with her old flame James Stenbeck, good lord). Kim entered the picture when her sister Jennifer married Bob (in the mid-'70s). Kim wanted Bob from day one and schemed to get with him! She and Bob had a night together that resulted in pregnancy (Sabrina, more on this down below). At the same time, Bob got Jennifer pregnant with Frannie! Oooh, Bob the player! Kim was talked into marrying Dr. John Dixon (Bob's rival) and that was not a healthy relationship. She wanted out, but he kept finding ways to keep her from leaving. Eventually she did escape his abuse. Bob's wife Jennifer later died in a car accident. Bob then had several different relationships before finally settling down with Kim (who by that point had been married several times, too). Bob and Kim had been supportive friends for each other through the years, so by that time it made sense for them to be together. An earned "happily ever after" for sure. About Bob and Kim's baby: when Kim she got pregnant with Sabrina, she was was tricked into thinking the baby had died at birth. The baby was given to a British couple to raise. Kim and Bob found her again as an adult (both Frannie and Sabrina played by Julianne Moore at the time in the '80s). Penny disliked Lisa because Penny kept marrying husbands who died tragically, and having miscarriages when all she wanted was a happy home. Penny's best friend, Ellen, had a child out of wedlock and was pressured into giving up the baby for adoption. She later fights to regain custody but loses. (Later, the adoptive mother dies and she marries the father, so she gets to be her son's mom... oh, the tangled web!) In contrast, Lisa waltzed in, got young doctor Bob to marry her, and had her baby with no problems, while also judging Penny's bestie Lisa. Basically, Penny could see that Lisa was a schemer (which she was!) while other people didn't see it yet. Lisa also loved rubbing in her good fortune (got the baby and the hubby) which irritated Penny. I forget about Lisa's son, Scott. I haven't researched that yet! :)
How did Lisa and Bob ended up married? Was this a Shotgun Wedding? Because if that's the case, Lisa has no right to throw stones at Ellen. She was Lucky enough to have Bob marry her. Probably why Penny felt the need to put her in her place. Don't come for her friend.
I never watched this show, but I'm hooked already, just from watching this one episode! Love that old-timey organ music!
Bob and Lisa. Kinda hard to believe they were once married with a baby on-the-way. Two soap acting legends.
Thx for the upload.
My beautiful mom watched tis show every day. I miss you mom!

My Moms favorite storyline was Lisa and the "Willows"!!
This was my Gram's favorite!!
@@debrareisdorf309Mine too. It must have been very good when it started in 1956. It was a very popular soap with great characters.
Every grandmother and every housewife in eastern North Carolina watched '... World 🌎 Turns ' every single weekday afternoon. Wouldn't miss it! Eileen Fulton (Lisa) is a North Carolina native.
I was borned in 1954 and watched these with my mom before I was school age, lots of memories, thank you
It's wild seeing Lisa so young 😲
I remember my mother watching As The World Turns in the 1960s. Another one of her favorite soaps was One Life To Live
Rest in peace my grandmother a long time ago in a beautiful land far away❤
I started watching ATWT in the 80's it's great to see Bob and Lisa so young and Nancy and Chris.
They were good actors. The WORK they had to do with the filming schedules over the years!
This was originally aired live
My Nana watched this. Brings back nice memories just to hear the organ music. Miss you, Nana
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ME AND MY GRANDMOTHER 😅❤❤
I was a kid and loved these shows enough to go outside and play with my favorite rock and stick like any other boy of that era!
My mother loved this show.
The shade that Penny throws at Lisa is fierce! The side-eyes, the snide remarks...
Was Penny the only one who knew what Lisa was really like? Ellen did, too, right?
Penny had to go there. Lisa was trying her.
Better than any soap currently on tv 📺 now
Wow, Bob and Lisa had such long careers. I hope they enjoyed their work as much as i did

That's correct-this is NOT from 1957. Tom was born in December of 1961
Thanks so much for posting this! It was my Mom's favorite soap opera and brings back lots of happy memories!
What A Treat, much thanks . Sure miss this as now we have nothing .
Pictures such as this give new meaning to the concert of Over the 🌈.
Greatest classic soap operas ever.even tho I was 2 at this time.
This isn't from 1957. This is from 1961 when Lisa was pregnant with Tom! Lisa wasn't even around in 1957

My favorite soap

OMG....i just watched this with a glass of wine and i already am feeling like i need to watch the next episode. Someone tell me...what happened next.
It's the wine. I don't think it's that captivating. Lol

Love these
The commercials are the best.
LOL at the twin beds
The date is indeed incorrect I believe it's from April 18th 1961. However it was a great soap I miss it very much
Funny how Bob was not so much for naming the baby Chris as his son with Kim was named Chris.
But by the time Chris was born, I believe that was the year his father, Chris, passed away.
@@MsTexas73 yes it was
Both Eileen Fulton and Don Hastings didn't begin on ATWT until 1960. Thusly, the date you list is incorrect. Love the show.
No, it's not. Eileen Fulton and Don Hastings were not original cast members.
@@ek3197no but Lisa was an original character Don was a recast Bob
the organ
Bob changed his mind after his father died apparently because he eventually had a son named Chris.
It's nice seeing these old shows but what terrible music!
Tom in the oven and baby Dan Stewart is the topic of the day! LOL!
This date is wrong. Neither Eileen Fulton or Don Hastings did not join the show until 1960.
The Tom Ewell Show aired Sept 60 - May 61
OH the memories
Young Eileen Fulton and Don Hastings.😊
Wow!! Dr. Bob is smoking! But worse around his pregnant wife. Boy were things different in the 1950's. Lol
"That's the way it was, and we liked it!"
Quite disturbing.
I think Lisa was at her Prettiest in 1968

These clips should wind up in the Smithsonian. A true part of American history and of a genre gone by.
Ahh Lisa pregnant with Tom Hughes another important document in the shows history
