I am non Tamil guy, do not understand the language. Still find only Tamil version much beautiful than any other language. There is something in this language that brings up so many classic yet mastero singer composer. AR Sir at this point can make music for any ambience he is given. No wonder singer like Shreya mam and Now Antara mam from bengali roots take pride in singing tamil song.

i love Poonguzhali! she is my favorite character, as a Telugu guy who recently read through the novels, her character is so endearing, earnest and lovely, her being a boat woman and singing "yelo yelelo" is so charming.

My expectation from the visuals were the first half would be to either her intro or to drop off vanthiyathevan and the second half to be when she brings arulmozhi back . Karai thodum varaiyil manam mudipaya is the ultimate depiction of her love for arulmozhi

For folks that dont understand Tamil the reason this song is so intense is because it depicts the deep one sided despairing desire that this ladys character Samudhrakumari ( literal translation daughter of the sea) has for poniyinselvan ( not present in the song). Amazing score from ARR and beautiful rendition by the singer.

I read PS novel volumes in 1967-68 first time in a library and 2 or 3more times later. The characters have been etched in my memory till now. I am in late sixties now and recollecting/visualising poonguzali travelling to srilanka singing this song. This was a complex novel with unsolved points. Frankly I was touched by Manimekalais death in the end a lot in my younger days.
I'm also felt about the death of manimegalai for one month. That scenario didn't left from my mind😥😥
