Rockstars should know banter cause no one is there to watch them dance. Also doesn't help that Paramore came out in the age where live shows were crazy and showmanship was part of the deal (all the guitar flipping and jumping around). Agreed, but it also has to do with what the fans of said artist expect. Artist like Taylor Swift are mostly followed by girls and us gays, and we expect that kind of drama theatrics and vocal slayege. Male singers tend to do different types of music as well, Ed Sheehan, Charlie puth, Shawn can do just find with their lyrics, their guitar/piano, and their looks, usually theit music is more similar to Taylor's folklore, but because women of the past put the bar so high (cause they had to) women nowadays are expected to reach those standards. Nowadays I also feel like unless you are a rapper it's harder to grow as a male artist.

It’s so frustrating because female singers are expecting to put on a whole ass show. With most female pop singers doing dance numbers, costume changes, walking/running in heels and belting lyrics. Where as men are praised/given the same credit for just standing there. This is more a comment on media because it is up to the artist in what they do onstage. But I fell that female singers are pressured into doing these big stage numbers to ensure they get the recognition they deserve for their vocals alone.

(most people can't really tell how hard a vocal is and mostly just assume that it's genetic) We can argue that most wanna-be singers are either women or LGBTQ, but considering that men who are wanna-be singers are just as bad... It can be said that the internet vocal community isn't really very representative of their communities outside of the vocal community. So gender and sexuality is just kind of irrelevant and missing the point.
Besides, No one's blaming men for this. To try and distance men from stan wars is unnecessarily defensive. Especially when you try to distance men from pop music- Pop music is short for popular music, and considering that men contribute to the music industry probably just as much as women do, they definitely care about pop music. They'd have to be going incredibly far out of their way to avoid pop music- Chances are you'd have to literally abandon your favourite artist at some point to avoid it. Men = more testosterone = biologically, statistically, deeper voices. Kind of embarrassing. Though remember, this is only a discussion in pop (and maybe pop rock if you wanna count in modern pop punk bands, and indie bands that don't focus solely on technique, this is why rock is a different discussion). Obviously! As an (contr)alto, if I want to achieve the most power and resonance I have to find a song allowing me to belt around A3/C4 (the chorus of "I Don't Care" by Apocalyptica is right on my sweet spot).
This is where my voice truly lives and resonates in full.
You can expect that male voices resonate and use their full power even lower, but we keep insisting on them trying to belt out C5s in full voice!
Of course they'll have to rely on distortion, growls, and other effects to sound good.
The higher they go the thinner the notes eventually become. To avoid sounding like they just breathed pure helium, they have to use other effects.

Propably it's because perfect pitch doesn't exist in the way you think it exists. If it existed even Pavorotti (Who also has "perfect pitch" and is better to sing sustained notes (bc he is a classical singer)) would sound like a robot.
To ilustrate better, imagine that pitch is a yellow line that go up and down everytime. It happens because our vocal folda has to vibrate to make a sound. So when you sing a note this line goes up and down really fast. Frequently these vibrations will simply not be able to stay the same, they will also fails to go down or up.

As an opera and musical theatre singer, I gotta say that expectations are Sooo much different. Some of this is biological stuff I wish you went into detail on (ie higher voices start mixing sooner in their range but can often mix higher than lower voices before needing to switch to head voice and whistle register; making it unfair to compare belt range and balance as higher voices need more head voice sooner into that mix due to thin vocal chords)
Musical Theatre in particular is THE WORST when it comes to double expectations. The majority of roles on Broadway are for men, there are plenty of gender breakdowns to look at, yet the majority of auditioning actors are cis women or trans or non-binary. Because men are so desperately needed to fill these roles and because so many directors and rights holders are against gender-bent casting, guys don’t need to be as versatile to get consistent roles. Plenty of guys have made full careers singing nothing but Golden Age legit Bari roles where you don’t have to sing above a G4, and then get patted on the back like crazy the one time they stumble through “Bring it home” in concert (Omigaosh, he kinda knows what falsetto is, never seen that one before) where as women need to be skilled in every style and genre to stay a float, every performer known as a legit soprano in MT has either switched over to opera or came to Broadway after decades in opera, or they have several belt roles under their belt from early to mid career (a la Kristen Chenoweth in Charlie Brown/Apple Tree/most of her roles, Audra in Dreamgirls, Jill Paice in Chess), Kelli O’Hara actually fits in both categories. Any modern big belter is also bound to have some legit pieces in their rep (Cynthia Erivo, Taylor Louderman, Sutton Foster, Stephanie J Block)
Basically, ladies kinda need a 3 octave range to stay afloat, guys are applauded for having almost 2 octaves.

I mean, that's just basic supply and demand. If musical theatre organization wants to have a greater number of male singers, then they should find a way to appeal to male interests. Same with STEM fields and women. If you have less of something but want more of it, then appeal to it.

This reminds me of a comment Meryl Streep said about female actors being better than male actors bc they really have no choice but to thanks to the sexism and the lack of opportunities given to them to get better, diverse roles. I think the same applies to female pop stars rather it’s vocals, dancing/stage presence, songwriting, artistry, longevity/reinventions, etc they are no choice but to be better bc in the industry sexist discrimination is real and artist development for major label pop stars are basically non existent due to major labels cutting budgets from streaming taking away the massive revenues they used to have when physical albums and digital download were the main consumers. Female pop stars especially female pop stars of color gotta be 100x better while mostly white male pop stars are able to be stale in their talent, meanwhile the most talented male pop stars are the ones who are men of color who thanks to r@cism aren’t given that much prominent or if they do it’s an expectation and a catch

I have also noticed that in both industries you get a lot more diversity when it comes to voice types and qualities while Pop music tends to promote the same voices (with the same problems) over and over again.

As a fan of all these groups I hate to say it but a huge majority of Kpop is very heavily autotuned. Because they are expected to dance in their performances it's very rare for a Kpop group to actually sing live. I'd say Kpop group singers lip sync a lot (purely because most audiences still expect them to dance and it's impossible to hit a lot of notes while dancing at the high standard they do). Huge Kpop fan but live singing in Kpop groups is very rare.

    Yes. Finally someone said it.
Artists like Taylor Swift, Hayley Williams, Ariana Grande and on and on and on … have more talent and creativity in a single EP or Album than most modern male artists have in their entire body of work.
Taylor has dropped three number one albums in less than a year in the middle of a pandemic after having her entire catalog and life’s work essentially stolen from her which left her no choice but to re-record all SIX of her albums and that takes an unbelievable amount of work having to work with engineers to duplicate the exact sound and vocals that were made over a decade ago so that fans can listen to the new versions without having to pick between the original or re-recorded ones in case the music didn’t stay authentic and true to the original that they fell in love with years ago. A fucking monumental task and the reason most artists don’t go that route at all. I get hives just thinking about them taking that on lol
Ari released two absolutely incredible number one albums in a year of her life that included the Manchester bombings, breaking up with her boyfriend of years, calling off an engagement, and her ex dying of an overdose. In one year. The fact that she delivered two albums was unbelievable in and of itself but to maintain that best of the best quality that all her music has and release what I think is the absolute best work she’s ever made is just harrowing.
And I won’t even get into Beyoncé’s career and her Coachella Homecoming performances and documentary after a long and complicated pregnancy with twins …. What the absolute fuck.
I know I’m listing three of the best female artists but I honestly feel like everytime I start listening to a new female indie artist I’m just blown away more often than not, so I don’t know what it is, but these ladies are superhuman and while there are obviously exceptions and some truly incredible male artists as well, there’s just not as consistent of a broad spectrum of talented artists. Especially when we’re talking about solo artists.
Sorry for the novel. I get passionate.
    It’s embarrassing.
    🤦🏻‍♀️🤙🏼

I find this so frustrating. As a male singer who is known for singing as a powerhouse, I have always been told that there just wasn’t a space for me as a vocalist in the industry as a guy.
I ended up developing a stage persona of Ada Vox and have become much more appreciated as a diva, but I’ll never understand why it seems like I just wasn’t “allowed” to be a competent vocalist as a male presenting entertainer.

Maybe this is one of the reason why many people appreciates kpop. That's because either you're in girl group or boy group, you are expected to deliver both vocals (of course I am aware that they lip sync and use playback, and chile that's because they need to promote multiple times for each comeback) and performance (they must able to dance, no shade but the weakest dancers on each group is no where near the dance skills of some western artists).
I also feel like guys in western pop music don't prioritized technique that much considering that they tend to not change their technique when the truth is their voice changes and it requires change in assessment
