- Each day, millions of dollars worth of emeralds are traded on the streets of Bogotá, Colombia’s thriving capital city. But few venture to the source of these gems, located deep in the Andes Mountains. Veteran mineral dealer Thomas Nagin leads viewers over treacherous mountain roads to explore two of the country’s most famous mines. Then it’s back to the big city to hunt for emeralds in the world’s largest emerald district.

it is only in a fairly small area of Colombia where the top quality emeralds are found. the region of Muzo and Cosquez and la Pita where the dark shale with veins of calcite are located in which the emeralds have grown.

Ahhh, this is great! I just acquired a Colombian Blade of Light Quartz Crystal from Santander and thought I’d do some research into this area to see where my beauty of a crystal came from, and I landed here. This is very interesting and I thank you for your work and bringing this to life for those of us that can’t travel to these amazing places! 😊
man colombia is so incredibly beautiful... living in such a beautiful place would be wonderful if not for the crime.
not as bad as you think. just stay out of the bad parts of the cities. many times to Medellin to visit my wife.
want to travel to Muzo and Cosquez sometime but is is very remote and somewhat dangerous to travel there. maybe will if I move to Medellin to live with my wife.
