Hearing your thoughts on Priory was so interesting to me! I read A Day of Fallen Night before reading Priory and I feel like that definitely helped me enjoy and understand the story a lot better than if I would've read Priory first. I started Priory in January and today I finally hit page 300.... I will try to finish it though, I bought the gorgeous Broken Binding editions. Maybe if I always read it with the lowest of expectations, I can give it 3,5-4 star... I am also listening to the audiobook and I really like the narrator, so that helps a little.
As for the dragon book recommendation, please try Aurelian Cycle by Rosaria Munda! I haven't read the last book in the series yet, but the first two were both in my top 5-10 reads last year and the year before. The only downside might be that they're written in first person present tense (which I don't mind most of the time).

If you want some dragon books that have stood the test of time, the Dragonriders of Pern is an older series that was very popular. I also recommend the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. I just read the first book this month, and it really was just all about world-building and the relationship between the main character and his dragon.

Some of my favorite dragon books include the Seraphina books by Rachel Hartman and Peter S. Beagle’s recent release, I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons. They don’t fall in the fantasy romance category and feel more like classic fantasy books. (The dragons in Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings are great too, but you have to get through several books before they make an appearance 😅)

I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on Priory. It was my first foray into high fantasy and I liked it alright, but I’m a sucker for dragons and I also liked the girl power that the Priory itself represents (the place, not the book). I will say I enjoyed A Day of Fallen Night, the prequel to Priory, more. All new characters in that one, too. With all of that being said, I’m going to start my foray into Sanderson and several other fantasy books/series that you and Katie have raved about. I’m so excited for those since there’s clearly better things out there!

I know you switched the term 'romantasy' for 'fantasy romance' because you don't like the term 'romantasy' but just in case you didn't know those two things have very different meanings. A romantasy is a book were the romance takes priority in the story and the plot, its basically a standard romance where the relationship is the plot and it's just put in a 'fantasy' setting -- I put fantasy in quote marks because from the ones that I have read the setting is usually a very surface level veneer of a generic fantasy land and the world building is kind of weak. Whereas a fantasy romance is the opposite and kind of has a broader scope of stories that can be classified as fantasy romance -- for these books the fantasy is the priority but it includes a romance storyline or subplot. This can be any story that has a 50/50 split between fantasy and romance or less -- for example Throne of Glass isn't a romantasy, its a fantasy romance because there is expansive world building and each of the books has a fantasy plot and the series overall has an overarching fantasy plot, the main focus of the series is fantasy but there are romantic subplots woven throughout the series, I would say Throne of Glass as a series overall is 60% fantasy and 40% romance. Any book where the fantasy plot line is equal to or takes priority over the romance plot is categorised as a 'fantasy romance' -- however, with all the hype and buzz over 'romantasy', especially with TikTok, any fantasy book that includes romance is now being called a 'romantasy' which I find frustrating because I personally don't like romantasy books, I need there to be a plot that is more than just a relationship and I know a lot of other readers who feel the same way, but with everything being labelled as 'romantasy' now, a lot of readers like me write off reading books marketed or labelled as a romantasy which means there are a ton of books that readers like me could potentially love and enjoy but we never read because it's been mis-labelled. I know you changed the term because you don't like the term 'romantasy' and you explained that in the video but I thought I would just explain the different definitions in case you weren't aware of them or in case anyone else watching and reading these comments weren't aware of them. And if anyone here is a reader like me who likes fantasy romance but doesn't like romantasy please be aware that most books with any kind of romance in, no matter how small, are now being labelled as 'romantasy' so before you write them off do a little research of your own because you could be missing out on your next best read or your new favourite book/series just because it was mislabelled. Great video, I'm new to your channel but I've just subscribed, I love your energy
