Epic pictures... from epic times, the best Star Wars Trilogy. I was little kid when the first time i saw it, it was absolutely fantastic. Now i think that this three movies are the best in the history
What's amazing to me is that for a movie that's over 30 years old, I still look at behind the scenes photos now and think "was that really just a painting/miniature and not a real set?". I doubt that in another 30 years I'll look back on movies coming out in 2019 and think "wow, was that really just CGI?"
I could show you movie scenes right now that had CG elements you never knew about. Its used in many, many scenes, even of relatively mundane things like cars on a road or fire or water or landscapes etc.. The good CG you never even notice....just like any other well done visual effect.
@@nickm2483 The innovations made on these movies were groundbreaking at the time but the 'magic' of practical effects is still there today in movie craft. It hasn't gone away. CGI also has its own magic but perhaps I'm biased as a CG animator myself =P
Carrie Fisher... I know I am one of the few, but I saw this movie only yesterday for the first time. Now I have in my mind this beautiful and fit young woman, and I cannot realize she has already passed away :(
Ah yes, days of long ago when Heart, Soul, Creativity, and a Vision melded together to create something Special for generations to enjoy. Holy Crap what the hell happened!!!! I'm taking to you Darth Kennedy .
So simple, so beautiful, so magical. From a time when Star Wars was an enjoyable fairytale of adventure for everyone with no agenda or real world politics involved.
I read somewhere that Michael Pangrazio, matt artist supervisor for the three films, said that the paintings on glass were often not kept and the paint was washed off the glass. Chris Evans at 2:34 was a genius & watching this film you really would have thought that scene at 2:34 was real. He was an amazing artist.
@@michaeljamieson3582 No butt hurt fuckwit. Truth is truth that's why you felt the need to insult...truth hates your generation. Disney Wars is a bastardization designed to move people that have no feelings and want everything given to them automatically and yesterday!
Ye I’m irish sitting on my arse watching this in Ireland. I had to turn it down as for me man it’s particularly annoying listing to this shit. The photo were amazing tho just turn the volume down
yep. . Matte painters are awesome. In fact the longest matte painting ever on camera I believe is the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark when they show the warehouse where the Ark is kept.
@@michaelomalley1856 I believe this is actually the go-motion puppet of the dragon from the 1981 film 'Dragonslayer'. It was never intended to be used in any Rancor scene in 'Jedi'. This photo was just a joke or a photographic experiment, set up by Phil Tippett and Dennis Muren.
Ok i had a look myself, yeah your right it is the Go-motion puppet from the 1981 movie 'Dragonslayer'. Cool Photograph regardless i wonder if this inspired the creation of the Krayt Dragon in some way?
@@667DOOM Oh so people can call that thing Baby Yoda when it isn't Yoda? Don't have to watch movies anymore just wait for all the dumb fucks to make their Meme's about it, the whole culture is shot to shit. Of course even worse is the nitwits who say "I Ship this". Utter hogwash and gutter fill.
straight to the point gotta give a thumbs up for that. No dumbass channel intro no talking just fucking "Behind the scenes photos: Return fo the Jedi". thanks
Went riding at the Buttercup Dunes in Imperial Valley one weekend. I had no idea that Jabba's Sail Barge was there, much less what it was. Wish I had brought a camera.
That was the name of the movie while they were filming it. There are early versions of ad posters with that title too. It was changed to "Return of the Jedi" before it was released.
2:09, that's not Return of the Jedi. It's the wrap party for Empire Strikes Back. I believe Alan Arnold wrote about it in the book Once Upon a Galaxy: A Journal of the Making Of The Empire Strikes Back.
True, but it was only to finish his Jedi training, which probably falls under the wider category of 'Rebellion Career Development'. If the Rebellion had tried to stop him then Luke could have the got Unions involved - nobody wants that headache!
Peter P21 actually, Richard Marquand did direct all of the major dialogue scenes and all of the scenes with Jabba as well as Yoda and the Emperor were shot by him. Lucas took over when a scene was too technically challenging for Marquand. So, Lucas was an uncredited 2nd Unit Director.
My childhood...I have fond memories of 82-84 when we watched those worn out bootlegged VHS tapes and played with and traded those figures! :-D
Thank you for posting these clips.. my favorite out of the entire franchise since my childhood days.. no film will ever be like this one.
noworries2014+ Oh, you think so?
Tiago Antônio simply the best. ROTJ
To me, it's the weakest out of the original six.
But still a great movie.
When you think of how the real outside world was when they made this movie, their vision was unbelievable
Man I love this movie so much!!
They were building worlds with papier-mache, now they have all the computer power they want and fail to put together a decent story.
then u clearly didnt watched the mandalorian yet
limitations give the power of creativity, now there are no limits, no creativity...
Back when Hollywood had talent
No, George Lucas.

Wow, such a cool collection of images from Star Wars! Makes you sad to see Carrie so young. RIP Carrie Fisher.
So many shot of Carry.😍😍😍 Rest In Peace our Princess.

I just found out the death star was a matte painting. Amazing
I love how much anticipation there was for the third film , and the stars were superstars at that point. Same can not be said for the new movies :)
2:00 i loved how carrie fisher with the wicket the ewoks

Fucking greed, and don't forget about the pigs that'll eat anything
@wespozo I could do without Episodes 1-3. We were fine, we were all fine with the originals.
The prequels happened. Talk to George Lucas.
M45XTH Awww...Poor whiny ass manbaby who can’t deal with icky girls in Star Wars.
LOL!! Seeing the cast with their stunt doubles, reminds me of Spaceballs!! lol
So simple, so beautiful, so magical. From a time when Star Wars was an enjoyable fairytale of adventure for everyone with no agenda or real world politics involved.
all those models in that last picture would be worth many millions today
So much originality, imagination, and creativity. What went wrong Disney?!?!?!
2:56 Harrison: "I love you."
Carrie: "I know."
RIP Carrie
That was creative magic. Make-up, puppets and models, before CGI.
Carrie looked fantastic 😍

That's a "R U gay?" test.
Especially the bikini shots, i guess ... *grin*
DonFuegoTube And that’s an « R U an asshole? » test.
I feel like the pic of the Gamorrean Guard picking its nose would have been better placed after Carrie Fisher kissed him.

***imagine being among the fans
watching them film it !!!!!
When Star Wars was Star Wars:)
It's so true! :-)
And when I liked the president of the USA
Amazing photos
Esse é o tempo que Star Wars ainda prestava!
What's with the Riverdance music?
Its dreadful, had to stop watching
The Gamorreans love it. They're surprisingly light on their feet.
Watch it with sound switched to mute. :)
Fiddley diddley Darth Siddley-ous !

2:06 did they really painted all those stormtroopers? Think that they were printed at least or something like that

After all these years I had no idea that was a matte painting.
Thanks for underlying it with that great Star Wars music...
what? you can't see Chewy, 3po and Vader doing Riverdance?
Brilliant pictures. Thanks.
Had to turn the music from 'down' to 'off' about halfway through.
Hermosas fotos, evocan tantos recuerdos de una gran película. La última imagen, con Lucas rodeado de todo el material es megnífica!
0:45 Looks like the Rancor had a fight with some crazy winged monster..
Looks to be a Krayt Dragon i wonder if it was originally planned to be in one of the Tatooine Exterior shots?

The abcense of CGI is great!
The first movie I saw at the cinema just before rocky 3
Glad I didn't realize how sexy Carrie Fisher was when I was a kid or this would have been a different movie.
I thought the Jabba puppet was much bigger.

Whats with the Riverdance music????????????
Heart-warming stuff !
The first photo may be from (circa 1996) filming for a VHS Star Wars game, not Jedi. They got Gil Taylor out of retirement and Prowse to don the suit.

Warwick Davis at 2 min 😂
Mmmmmmm,, Carrie Fischer was just scrumptious back then..
4:39 "Revenge Of The Jedi"... why? It supposed to be the name of the movie?

Because Jedis dont seek revenge

The dragon from Dragonslayer
The Real Star Wars Trilogie.
the only.
Are these form the Trilogy bonus DVD?
Better than the Last Jedi
Obviously
Fuck off
The doppelganger accompanying Carrie Fisher looks like Brook Shields in her 40s.

Fez parte da minha infância e adolescência. Genial!!
Great stuff, very talented people
Clapperboard at 4:40 still says 'Revenge of the Jedi'!
0:02 David Prowse gets his wish granted and reveals his face.
Now that was BAD ASS
2:01 - Warwick Davis?
Yes
Great Pictures, thank you!
2:08 damn
When Luke went back to the Dagobah System was it on the Rebellion's dime? Seems like a lot of money for fuel and he does not own that X-Wing.
True, but it was only to finish his Jedi training, which probably falls under the wider category of 'Rebellion Career Development'. If the Rebellion had tried to stop him then Luke could have the got Unions involved - nobody wants that headache!
After destroying the death Star , the rebellion probably gave him a of lot slack !!
I'd hate to have to do that travel claim and voucher.
Wow! What a nerdy comment. There's always an employee who acts like he owns the place.
Jedi powers do make theft a lot easier.
35mm Arri BL IV Cameras! Before the digital revolution. :)
Is it possible to buy prints of these anywhere?
Beautiful photos! I would like the same for Apollo 11. Thank you.
Yeah great pics but what music is this? What Irish group? For some reason the music fits, makes me remember those days when Star Wars was huge.
Sorry for the late reply, the music is "The Lord of the Dance."
Vielen dank.
Odd choice but great music!
3:58 Scott Baio?
Loved this, The music helped.
okay.....Riverdance was a weird choice for music but whatever =/

Don't forget Japanese Samurais.
Hey don't forget Japanese samurais.
The true Star Wars!
Wow very cool!!
Why David Prowse(Darth Vader) looks so old on first image ? he was young during making OT
It is from a photo shoot from the 1990's.
0:44 Rancor attacks Vermithrax from Dragonslayer
The Dagobah set with all the tables is from the Empire wrap party, not Jedi.
When star wars was great....
