As an East Coast surfer, thanks for an accurate depiction of a good day on the east coast. Namely tons of paddling, lots of closeouts, quick moments of nirvana, and getting caught inside. "New York bringing the heat", classic quote applies to every east coast break when the swell is peaking and there are little to no lulls. I laughed through most of the video as I've loved it dozens of times. All said and done it only takes one good one and it's all worth it.
    Appreciate your stoke brother

Hi Nathan, means a lot to us on the East Coast to have you surf here. Especially in the Northeast. Any chance you might be able to speak to your experiences here vs what you are used to in Hawaii and break it down a bit. It would be insightful coming from a pro. Thanks!

Know what? Us surfers on the east coast are as tough as they come. Always searching for peaks of waves, constantly getting berated by set after set of typically short period wind-swell, dealing with all kinds of weather and cold ocean temps and brain freezing headaches. IMO you have to be tough and full of grit to be a real surfer on the east. From what I see, the west coast and prob Hawaii breeds snobby surfers that wouldn’t dream of putting in the work it takes to be a surfer out here. Surfing out there is easier in many many ways. Not to mention they get practice constantly. What do we get a whole 3 minutes of actual board time in a 90 min session? 3 mins if your lucky! Look I’m not saying there aren’t serious currents, conditions, and waves out in Hawaii nor am I calling EVERYONE A SNOB ETC. Ppl like Nate and quite a few others are the definition of tough but they are a handful out of thousands of other ppl that like to surf yet call themselves “Surfers”. That’s your difference LoL! I know it’s not the answer you were looking for, but True to the Core nevertheless. Keep Grinding Boys! Yeeeeeeeewwwwwww!

@@markm5555 well put and agreed. Been a bodyboarder since i was like 14. Mostly hung around belmar until i got older and strarted finding different locations like Jenks which is my favorite. Theres a private beach in MonmouthBeach that i love too, uncrowded and bombs right on the beach. Ive been through ALOT of cold winters and they suck the more you get older, but its the best time for some REAL waves other than hurricane season as we all know it. I LOVE how clean the water is in the Winter too, its completely different! I specifically remember one frigid cold February weekend going down to LBI with my friend and how flat it was lol, but we still went out and basically just paddled around for 2hrs bc we brought all our shit down. The crazy thing is i was like only 14-15 just getting into it and only had a 2/3 full suit along with a 2mm spring suit that i put over it to wear in that 36 degree water! My legs and arms were instantly freezing and i think i only had 2mm booties too! lmfaooo. We went down there scouting for beach houses with his parents and brought all our shit with us, we didnt care if there was even waves just wanted to get in the water! Ill never forget how stoked i was on it at a very young age though spending every damn minute i could at the beach. I use to take the train before having my license to Belmar, and then having to walk the +mile hike to the beach with my boardbag holding 2 bodyboards, 2 pairs of fins, food, water, towels, and the essentials. Looking back now i was one dedicated sponger! I would spend all day from 7am to 7pm and i shit you not most of that time I was IN THE WATER. Soo many days of being out in hurricane swells for almost the entire day/hours upon hours to where when you finally rest your head and close your eyes, it still feels like your moving around in the ocean!! I was addicted to say the least. Im convinced had pure stoke and am true soul of east coaster! Just getting in and out of your suit in Feb on those windy ass days down by the beach MOST will never understand and is a *rite* of passage!....yeaaa id say they got it a little easier in Hawaii with surfing haha.

@@markm5555 I don’t know Mark. Aloha I’m Chi. My original homebreak is Assateague Island National seashore in Maryland and I have to disagree about Hawaii surfers being snobby. Yeah in Cali they might not talk to you until you catch a good wave, but still great surfers and kind people for the most part. There are Al’s ways exceptions of course. East coast surfers just about never talked to me unless they caught a good wave.
Hawaii was special for me. The first place I felt I fit in with people, like part of a surfing community. Solid braddahs with the same stoke.
Plus, not sure what kine waves you surfing to only get several minutes in a 90 minute sesh, but in Ocean City Maryland, you could just keep paddling and taking off on peaky a frames non stop until the wind or the tide got too much or slacked off. I lived at the beach though, so I caught it whenever it was good even if it was only a half hour that cleaned up and went offshore on a rising tide.
Definitely true what you said about east coast surfers. Die hard bunch who deal with fickle waves, brutal conditions, insane paddle outs, and hard to catch waves. The sand bottom prepared me well for California and Hawaii with their cobblestone in Cali and reef in Hawaii. 🤙🏻
      Get you some cousin…

Nice to see someone else who goes on a wave feeding frenzy like me and just keeps paddling and going for waves. I can’t help it, the stoke commands me to. I swear an east coast wave juices me a lot more even though they are smaller typically. Colors seem brighter afterwards, so much energy, just frothy full of stoke. Because there is the first initial impact (the lip landing on the water) which bring heaps of underwater white water plumes. Then there is the second impact which is the whitewater above the water crashing down, so if you time it in-between those two impacts you miss the underwater whitewater plumes and duck dive through the wave easily.

I worked a summer job at a country club in New York. I was about a 15 min drive to the beach. They had some good waves that summer. Hate wearing a wetsuit but that’s ok. Lincoln beach was the place I generally went to. I did go to many others but that seemed to be the spot, at least that summer. I enjoyed the summer there but don’t think winter would be fun.

There was an outer bar working during mid tide that was epic and mechanical; every wave that broke there was just like you saw in this video.
