  • The scale Assesses impaired consciousness and coma in pediatric patients.
    So (pGCS) allows providers to ....obtain, track and communicate the mental status and level of consciousness in preverbal children that is lower or equal to ....≤2 years of age).
    It is Variation of the standard Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) with age appropriate modifications to the motor and verbal components.
    It's as accurate for identifying clinically important traumatic brain injury (ciTBI) as GCS in verbal children.
    Why it's used....
    It Allows for calculation of the GCS in preverbal children, for whom some of the components in the standard GCS are not able to be measured.
    Scores & interpretation
    It's Scored 3-15 that is ... (eye, verbal and motor response)...which is like the standard GCS
    Any combined score of less than eight represents a significant risk of mortality.
    A score of 12 or below indicates a severe head injury.
    A score of less than 8 indicates that intubation and ventilation may be necessary.
    A score of 6 or below indicates that intracranial pressure monitoring may be necessary
