Agree...Not saying Bird is better than Jordan...but watching Jordans Bulls compete against Birds Celtics was epic...why? Bird would rather die on the court of a coronary than let MJ win. MJ...hated losing and wanted to annihilate everyone...try as he did, MJ couldn't make it out of the East until Bird retired. Bird was an assassin and I believe competing against Bird made MJ even better!

That scene where he broke his cheek against the pacers and he faked out the entire team with a fake pass and then hit the jump shot looks more impressive when you see the overhead view of that. I wondered how he could have faked them out and then I saw the overhead view and you're like of course they all bought the fake pass.

Thanks for backing up Larry's athleticism lol. In his prime at 6'10 noticeably more athletic than 6'7 Luka, and his endurance was up their with some of the best outside of Wilt of course lol. I also like to argue Larry had some of the quickest reflexes you'll ever see especially from a big guy, and his hand eye coordination was elite as well. Larry apparently had the same vertical as Karl Malone who was a 6'9 dunking machine. Larry coulda dunked a lot more if he wanted but he didn't need to. He much preferred making players look stupid than slow.

I have commented the same about Bird's athleticism. I get tired of some saying he wasn't athletic. No, he couldn't jump out of the building, but he had decent hops. He was fast enough to handle fast breaks and he could create his own shots, often, and break defender's ankles, pretty well. I don't think anybody who can make it in the NBA is "unathletic", and Bird did much more than just make it in the NBA. Thanks, Stax React.

You are one of the few that remembers the other videos on Bird. Thank you. Two stories you may not know: #1. Larry Bird said “Two days before I scored 60 against Atlanta, there was this big five-miler outside of the Boston Garden [it was the 1985 Shamrock Classic]. I ran it in 32 and a half minutes, I think. So against Atlanta I was worried because my hamstrings were really tight, but I got loose and felt better and had a pretty good game, scoring the ball anyway.” #2. A gentleman named Tom Roach related the story that one day in 1974, while Larry Bird was a high school senior and also his 8th grade P.E. assistant at Springs Valley High School; the coach/teacher had set up a trampoline on the basketball court about 35 ft. from the goal. He had Larry take 10 shots while bouncing on it and for every one he hit, they would decrease the laps they had to run. He hit 7 of the 10. Mr. Roach realized that by working very hard and not giving up, you could have your dreams come true.

When the younger crowd says LeBron us the best, I cring and honestly think he couldn't carry Birds lunch never mind dominate him. Bird was a basketball god playing seeing him do magic every night. No rest, no load management just 100 % every game to the buzzer. BOTH BILL RUSSELL( won championship at highschool, college and 11 times in the pros with an Olympic gold) AND BIRD ARE THE GOATS

Unfortunately for him and those other legends that had to suffer watching these selfish entitled players this weekend looking like they could have cared less about being there. I'm now 65, and all my life I was HEAVY into the NBA. I'm from San Antonio, so I'm a Spurs fan. I was a HUGE George Gervin fan. So smooth. Then along came Tim (Duncan), David (Robinson), and Tony (Parker). Then added in Manu (Ginobili), and my Spurs were soaring. Tough dudes; especially Manu. I so much enjoyed watching them all play. I also liked (hated) Magic. Could not stand the Bad Boy Pistons. A bunch of dirty players. I liked Hakeem. Good big man. Now, in this time, we have a bunch of what we call "cushies". All soft, Not tough (overall). Easy to get injured and sit out, and can't count on them to even have enough interest to play. VERY disappointing. For the last few years, I rarely, if ever, watch an NBA game. There are a few players I really like a lot, but not many. LBJ is NOT one of them. When some of them went "political", that's when I said, "I'm out!" B-ball players do NOT get paid to express their political views, nor do I wish to hear them. Too soft for me.

Thank you for stressing that it doesn't matter if you are white or black, but rather can you play the game?
I grew up white in the south (1965) and my favorite players were mostly a mix of black and white players: Wilt, Pistol, Jerry West, Kareem, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Curt Flood... and I spent a lot of time trying to emulate each of them. Sky hook, dribble behind the back, slider, fastball... Okay I couldn't dunk like Dr. J. :)
Bottom Line: The color of your skin shouldn't matter. But rather how well you played the game, and most importantly, how did you play help-improve your teammates?

In the playoffs he smoked Michael Jordan's ass twice and Michael Jordan said he was glad that he retired because he was tired of him ruining his seasons go play golf or something 4-1twice

But i agree with you on that killer instinct, bird, jordan, Kobe had it ,no mercy and they practiced so much they had the skills to back it up ,alot of hustle, btw bird liked mj ,and he loved watching kobe he said in an interview, and he smiled, just like he did at the ASG this year when ask about the joker ,he smiled and said id loved to play against him or with him ,he also has bragged alot about Klay Thompson

MJ averaged 30.1 ppg and Larry averaged 24.3 ppg. MJ beat Bird 10-0 in Scoring Titles. Michael also won 5 MVPs and Larry 3 MVPs. Jordan was the Finals MVP 6 times, Larry just 2 times. How was Larry Bird tougher? It doesn't make any sense at all.

Larry was an average jumper. 28 inches I believe which at the time was the average for the NBA.

Dr.J is wrong. Celtics won 21 games year before. Birds rookie year. 61 wins. Still a NBA record for greatest single season turnaround. Bird is the best overall team player. Or at minimum, top 3 overall. I still truly believe. The two best individual players are MJ and Wilt Chamberlain. Bird would tell coaches and players what he was going to do. And then did it. Didn't matter who it was. And almost all of them were like. Did that just happen. And there was nothing they could do about it. 😂

I agree with you, the modern play of the today's NBA is awful, I stopped watching in recent years. I became a fan of the game in the 1970s, and watched the regular season games, playoffs, the Finals until recently. But the 80s was my favorite decade and Bird was King. Even when MJ came into the league, he got a LOT of attention, but still, Bird was The Man.
And in the video, Dr. J got it a little wrong; when Bird entered the league, he inherited a Celtics team that won only 29 games (lost 53) and in his rookie season, by just adding him to the lineup, Bird led them to the best record in the league, 61-21. Lost to Dr. J and the 76ers in the Eastern Conference Finals. He not only won Rookie of the Year that season, but was placed on the All NBA First Team, almost unheard of for a rookie. It took Magic and Jordan three seasons to get on the first team.

In any sport you cannot pick one athlete that is the best or the absolute GOAT. I think you can pick a top ten list of GOATs. There are different times and changes in coaching and systems. Jesse Owens is a GOAT but he could not run as fast as today's elite sprinters. But when he ran they dug holes in the dirt as starting blocks. It is the same for tennis, golf, swimming and every team sport including NFL quarterbacks. Mark Spitz won seven gold medals in the olympics. His records are long broken but he is a GOAT. Larry is on the GOAT list. He was playing chess when others were playing checkers. There doesn't need to be any argument about who is #1. There is a list of number 1s and all of them were revered and will remain revered.
