CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Laney (Rachael Leigh Cook) must deal with the popular kids when they interrupt her and Zack's (Freddie Prinze Jr.) beach date.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
If Hollywood can shoehorn William Shakespeare into the teen-movie treatment with Romeo and Juliet, and Jane Austen with Clueless (from her novel, Emma), why not George Bernard Shaw? While his Pygmalion has been staged and filmed endless times, most famously as the musical My Fair Lady, here Shaw goes to high school. This time around, a Los Angeles' school's most popular guy Zack (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) loses his girlfriend Taylor (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) to television star Brock Hudson (Scream's Matthew Lillard). Zack then vows to his friends that he can take any girl in school and turn her into the prom queen. With five weeks until the prom, his friends pick weird, art nerd Laney Boggs (Rachael Leigh Cook). Zack predictably gets more than he bargained for as he falls in love with his "creation." Eldon Hudson and Kieran Culkin, stars of The Mighty, play Laney's best friend and little brother, respectively. Robert Iscove, director of television's Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, makes his big-screen debut.

I was so happy when Katie (Gabrielle Union's character) strayed away from Taylor's clique and was nice to Laney. Gabby isn't always the typical mean girl in her movies.

She was mean in bring it on, especially to Torrance
she wasn't mean or evil, she hated Torrance's team for what happened in the past and believed everyone was guilty
kimmy cuthbert She was never mean in Bring It On, she was rightfully upset because Torrance’s team kept stealing their cheers and making them their own. A lot of people seem to miss that Bring It On focused on a larger issue: cultural appropriation. White people stealing stuff from blacks and so on. So, yeah, she wasn’t mean. If anything I’d say she was really nice because in the end she’s forgiving towards Torrance and they form a friendship.

Back when I saw it in theaters, everyone thought it was predictable too, which was why they were all shocked when Lainey didn't win prom queen.

It wasn't about being ugly or average. It was about the fact that she antisocial. So trying to convince someone who is antisocial to be a part of the biggest social event of the school would be a bit of a challenge. The bet was that he could make any girl prom queen. How about trying to convince a girl that has no interest in that title to actually want it and campaign for it? The movie was not about making her over. It was about getting her to interact with more people. Hence why Lainey said what she said when Taylor dumped the drink on her. She was like this is why I don't go outside and talk to people.

This scene was the turning point in the movie’s storyline arc. Lainey decided to join in with the group and have fun thereby becoming more accessible to people.
