  • Our Ventrac 4500Z has a broken hydraulic steering cylinder. These things are built like tanks but even a tank can get pushed too hard. I know exactly what I was doing when I broke it and I will be trying not to do that again, but I need to get it up and running because everything is growing like crazy around here. Fortunately the part was not too expensive. I had it up and running again for under $200.

Those welded bits that hold the nut are great, more designs should incorporate that

Ventracs are unique machines, very capable. Due to the maintenance issues and available pto components, I opted for a used compact 4wd tractor and finish mower. I get golf course like cuts and saved a lot of cash.

If I was on flat ground I would just use my rotary cutter on the Kioti tractor and get a zero turn for finer cutting. The terrain here is challenging

Good job, we just had to repair hydraulics on the excavator now the old dozer's fuel injection is messed up and just prior a new battery, starter and solenoid. UGH It sure gets old and just when the weather is nice enough to use the machines and then all this comes into play. Glad you got that done and Jafanna can mow! LOL You guys are so generous..LOL It for sure it takes two to even try to keep up. Good job and so thank ful it got fixed and you are talented enough to handle it . Have a great week!
    Take care! 🙂

No matter how much you like a person when they walk into your shop, your paying taxes, etc, to have and then the tools to work with are not cheap similar to say harbor freight tools. All said and done, you did save money doing it yourself.. it would of taken me maybe a little over ten minutes to do but parts and labor guide will give say point five .5 time to assess, do it and then clean up after the job... not easy being a mechanic and having to say charge a minimum of a half hour if your lucky as most now have a two hour minimum time plus parts mark up... yes... gravy for us to do one but so hard to face a customer

I love this take on repairs. Of course we all complain about the cost of a mechanic, yet the truth is you are paying for a skill set. That skill set feels like magic, but someone trained to earn it.

Be cautious around hydraulics. Hydraulic injection injuries are no joke. Never use a bare hand to locate a pin hole leak. Thankfully in this case it was simply a cylinder seal and not a line.

Its a tough cut mower. Those had actually just been sharpened. Maybe someday I’ll have a fine cut. But I have a lot of work yo do on the fields before I get there.
