@@meetdapete5475 as you said well in the wild, but soil isn't as compact as the plastic is, the plastic doesn't have enough ventilation and couldn't have ways to exhale the warm air inside of the caves that's why I only make that humble suggestion UnU

I just wanna leave a little constructive criticism about the substrate 😊 sawdust isn't really the best for hamsters, it can cause respiratory infections when they dig in it due to all the dust. Also depending on the wood thats inside the sawdust it can form toxins when hamster pee in it. Better options are: paper based substrate (without perfume), hemp substrate and aspen wood bedding. There might be different options in your area too!

Sawdust is bad for hamsters' respiratory systems (pine in general is reccomended against also). You could use wood shavings (less dusty), or even better shredded paper, recycled paper-based pellets (like back2nature or carefresh) or hemp chips/shavings.

I think in the wild they live in actual burrows and do alright. The problem is the ammonia and bacteria which isn’t an issue if you clean it regularly
