    I've watched those sleeper placement machines on a few projects recently. The accuracy is astounding and they're quite hypnotic to watch working.

    Mike, thanks for documenting the work. At least most of this was done in the daylight. When I documented platform 5 and the reworkings of the junction most of the interesting bits were in the small hours of the night !

    Very interesting video. Watching machines at work is something I could watch all day! By comparison with the laying of the sleepers, the moving of single lengths of track was tediously slow.

    I would have thought they would have laid out the concrete sleepers and then long lengths of continuous rail?

      @gingertom2355 9 месяцев назад +1

      The first item of rail laid in the video contained the IRJ (marked up on the sleeper) - Insulated Rail Joint required for signal replacement controls. The signal was situated immediately on the approach to the bridge the film was taken from. Get that item of rail positioned first (position is critical) and they can then lay, cut and weld the longer cwr sections in. There's minimum distance criteria to be observed from IRJ to the nearest weld I believe hence they won't cut the IRJ length of rail shorter.

    Remember the good old days when they diverted via Tondu when this was on. Not buses!

    Can't believe how or why they just rip out trees, they're building new homes near us, it was a huge expanse but that wasn't good enough, lets rip all the trees out first. Ludicrous

    • @gingertom2355
      @gingertom2355 9 месяцев назад +1

      The clue is in the title - 'Bank' - i.e. a gradient and in rail terms quite a significant one. What do trees shed? What does the weather do in Sth Wales rather a lot in Autumn? There's your answer.

    • @TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways
      @TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways  9 месяцев назад +1

    • @joginns778
      @joginns778 9 месяцев назад

      You asked what do trees shed, well think about this what happens when you take trees out on a embankment? Landslides trees drink millions of gallons of water and there roots hold back the embankment from slipping that's why it's important not to cut the trees down, and network rail should learn this,@@gingertom2355
