@TheGameCourier I love the deep thought and introspective acknowledgment you put into your opinions. I am at the middle of doing my first game and would love to see if we could come up with an idea for a video collab.
Very interesting and well explained take on what’s happening in the gaming industry. For a while I’ve been thinking why is it changing so much and couldn’t put my finger on it. Which is where I agree with you on the situation, makes a lot of sense and hopefully we will continue to get my great indie games that then also push AAA to rethink there games and improve. Great editing/talking found it enjoyable and captivating. You have a sub from me keep up the great work.
I think memeification is a powerful tool that can help Indies market but at the end of the day a game has to fun to keep those interested player. Id say Palworld does that well
Basically. Palworld did what AAA investors tried to do but failed and no one acknowledges it. Palworld isn't creative or unique. It took the most popular genres (survival/crafting, automation, creature collecting, co-op multiplayer, creature collecting, open world, FPS) and wrapped it up in a layer of memes while intentionally sliding close to the aesthetic of the most successful brand in the world. Palworld IS targeted for success but it compiles these targets competently. Although, I doubt it'd have even 1/20th of the success if it wasn't for the memes and Pokemon aesthetic. The future is meme marketing.
interesting video I agree that the old gods of gaming are dying because they are failing to innovate kije a lot of the newer guys are more accurately they are playing it to safe for profit rather than letting their creative teams roam free AND IT IS SHOWING look at metal gear survive kojima had no involvement in the project and it ended up being a flop without these creative souls to bring a game to life of course it will die
5:30 I can't believe you're trying to shame me for not paying 80$ to play games that don't have a good gameplay loop and any soul to them and are 75% filler to reach 15+ hour milestone. i bought tf2 for 20$ and played it for 12 years at 50 hours per week. make a fun game that isnt marketed to memelord tweens or variety streamers and we will buy them. unfortunately, neither devs or executives care. we see the same thing in the film industry. no love no passion no artistry = no buy. simple.
8:30 there is a difference between a game that is comedic, and a game that is a joke. the nuance may be lost on 12 year old dopamine fiendz, but one thinks youre smart and one thinks youre dumb.
You are only one proper headline away from a video that is clicked a lot more. Cause Contentification, Memeification, Marvelization and maybe more general - Internetification of games is the main topic and a topic not many are talking about in depth. At least in regard to games, as others like Patrick (H) Willems have stated in broader terms 'Everything is content now' in his videos lately. And that is - exploding popularity of Palworld aside - not a good thing. Absolutely not.

very interesting, loved the optimism of a mostly neutral analysis, i really needed something other than "its bad."
Triple A companies laid off their valuable assets
Best breakdown I've read in a while about the games industry. Didn't say "Western culture"even once.
