I went to college with a guy who had MS or something.
When we started he had big braces and very large crutches with the arm grips.
This was in Florida and every day he would walk laps in the pool to build up his muscles and balance.
The resistance yet buoyancy of the water was a huge boon. After about a year he was able to walk with only canes and his mobility was vastly improved.
I think water walking is great for many people young and old for many reasons.

@@rw9019 actually this exercise is a great way of building balance and strength in the water. Balance is a very important component to swimming because it helps swimmers have stronger balance in their bellies as they kick, build better buoyancy during back floats, and build strength in their muscles. In this case, this exercise is imperative for this child’s age because she’s learning how to keep herself up and build strength that will benefit her swimming abilities and development. When teaching children to swim, we don’t just focus on the strokes or kicking. It’s important to include balance exercises because in the long run it’ll be more beneficial when they apply the balance to horizontal swimming. Plus, it boosts confidence and comfortability in the water! I’ve been a swim instructor for almost four years, so I have balance exercises such as this one several times and I’ve seen students become stronger and more confident in their swimming potential because of it.

One of the best things I did for my child was teach him water safety and swimming as a baby. It's not only a survival skill, it allowed him to enjoy any water sport he wanted to try, which also gave him confidence in himself. He's now a Marine.

I was thrown in at 6 months and have been loving the water for 55 years, my 4 children learned to swim I a day the same way. Swimming is an essential skill and here in Australia it's well used.
Teaching your own children to swim is both rewarding and bond building, no need to pay for lessons that's for sure.😊

When I was a toddler, I was swimming in a hot tub that was elevated above a pool. My brother, only about a year older than me, was in the hot tub with me. My dad was skimming the pool below. My dad couldn’t see us in the hot tub but he could hear us laughing. I took my pool Floaties off and sunk below the water. I was underwater for several minutes. My dad realized what it happened after he heard me not talking for a while. I was completely gray I can’t believe I held my breath that long. I never had any of this training before the incident. I cannot imagine what would’ve happened to me if I didn’t miraculously hold my breath. I think it’s amazing that parents are training their kids for these incidents before they happen. It’s better to be sure that your kid knows what to do. Instead of hoping they hold their breath when this happens.

Babies don't need teaching, they have an ability to swim inbuilt. Throw them in and they swim. Once they are older their fear over rides it. All my family was taught to swim at 6 months old in a day.

Fun fact: toddlers can swim. Really good. It's because they are covered by fluid in the womb, so when they are born, they still remember how to swim. To preserve that knowledge, it's recommended to take toddlers for swims when they are little since they are not really afraid and do really good in water
