There’s actually a Conan adjacent female lead character Red Sonja that they could have went with but instead they just went with Conan, a character never meant to be female by the author of the Conan books, to stir publicity. Its just ridiculous
I will watch absolutely anything Bertrand Mandico creates. Deeply affecting, esoteric, transgressive…a filmmaker the likes of which has not been seen since Jodorowsky. If you want common entertainment, this is not for you.
I just watched it. Criterion Collection worthy all the way! Anyone not seeing just how amazing this is are the same people that go to Marvel movies and not realize they're being fed the exact same movie each time. Hell.... most US made movies are just 2 hour long car and gun commercials. It's so refreshing to watch a piece of art. It's better than rad. It's fxcking rad!

just watched it. first 20 minutes i was confused whats going on and i thought i dont like the movie, but then slowly understood and it turned out to be an interesting watch, but not an easy one. i thought the filmmaking was pretty good as well as the sets, lots of details,.. and i am curious if the makers of this movie have made another less "artistic" movie which is easier to watch. i thought the dog lady "Rainer" was cool, the way she spoke.. but yeah, bizarre movie, i really got some weird 90s movies feeling, the kind you stumbled upon 2.a.m in the morning on tv.
I will probably still watch it, and I'm sure it's a treat for fans of bizzare monochrome French vignettes, but as a die hard "conann" fan I doubt this will be for me. It's sword and sorcery not glamor and nazis.
Hands down, one of the best pieces of cinema I've seen in years. A completely surrealist masterpiece up there with the likes of Jodorowsky and Terry Gilliam. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this makes it to The Criterion Collection in record time. Completely fascinating from start to finish.
Saw this at the local cinematheque. It was fantastic. I loved the visuals and the story telling. Definitely one of my favorite movies. Anyone here crying about wokeness, I just feel bad for. They must live in such a small world and be so scared of everything.

If people don’t like it they probably just aren’t generally into film of this kind with a rawer look and less standard narrative structure. Also, focusing on adherence to the “Conan” source completely misses the point.
Movies like this are made so people like you can act like you’re more moral than people who just want a regular old adventure flick.
