    I find most OD pedals are different so it’s a matter of personal taste. An important part is how the OD drives your amp, the type of amp, etc. I’d say I have every Boss OD, and ton of other makes but I find the Boss OD-1 one of the best ever. I used try to find the perfect OD but it’s an elusive pie in the sky dream when it all comes down to the player.

    Wow, very different, I like all three in different ways. The GT-OD is the only one I don't currently own and I'm lusting for it badly now.

      I have a modded GT-OD (with a switch for the Zakk Wilde one) and I wouldn't trade it for any other OD effect on the market.

    If I didn't already have a J Rockett Touch Drive, I'd grab that MXR in a heartbeat. Great higher-gain TS pedal. The OD-3 is killer for more open, high-headroom stuff, and it loves a compressor in front. Can't go wrong.

    Hands-down the boss OD-3 dominates; clear winner. Exceptional clarity the most natural sounding especially in person as compared to the compressed RUclips video. I own multiple tube screamers tried GT-OD they are all good pedals, but they definitely color the tone. Which is sometimes maybe what you need for a particular guitar>amp set up. For me, in most scenarios, I want my amp to shine through and nothing does it like the OD- 3.
    And when I do want more gain it delivers the most natural sounding overdrive/distortion I've heard.
    I own over 25 overdrive/dist pedals, including several vintage and boutique and it's as good if not better than the best of those. It's right up there with the Analogman Prince of Tone as tied for one of my top two most natural, versatile Drive pedals out there.

      @livingproof7248 9 лет назад +2

      Yeah tho od-3 is awesome! I've had a lot of od pedals. Just to go back to the od-3. I like od's to only add grit to my already set amp tone. Ts have that mid hump thing that is to much for me. Now its my od-3 and a ocd v-4 on my board. Ocd is prob so far the most transparent od i've owned.

      Which is the best for boosting the sound when soloing ?

    • @livingproof7248
      @livingproof7248 9 лет назад +1

      Rocking Train i guess i would say the ts. But it really depends on what your playing and how loud your band is. Ts has that mid hump that can lift your solo out of the mix.

      Compulsor ditto that Compulsor... I have a book case full of OD pedals including some I've built myself. I have 2 (yes 2 of them) OD-3's on my board and a Boss SD-1 which is virtually identical circuit to the TS-9 with an additional diode in the clipping circuit to make it asymmetrical (a common mod to the TS circuit). The OD-3 retains the low end without the characteristic midrange bump that the others have. And for just all out clean boost it has nearly twice the output of a TS type overdrive. I run these in front of my BF Super or Deluxe Reverb and I'm set. The OD-3 is an often over looked and under-rated IMO and can usually be found cheap 2nd hand.

    Boss - Trebly
    MXR - Mid/Bassy

    • @joaquinramos5707
      @joaquinramos5707 9 лет назад +4

      +lostinhatred Really? I find Boss much richer in bass, And wider spectrum since I can hear a lot more bass than with Ibanez. I find louder mids in Ibanez... But I think it cuts bass a little bit. Please let me know what you think about this

      In real life the boss is buttery smooth and thick, just ride that tone control. It's the most transparent EQ I've found in an overdrive, way flatter than the tubescreamer family. Besides, a solid state amp like this is not going to take flat EQed dirt pedals really well and will favor darker ones.

    for low drive TS9 is still best , for high drive OD3, for mid drive GTOD.

    MXR is the better pedal

  • @fender7695
    @fender7695 Год назад

    TS-9 is hands down the best for boosting a signal. Ie. I always use a distortion pedal and boost with the TS-9. Its so rounded & It’s so natural for a metal or hard rock tone. But for just drive I’d say the MXR is the best. That being said, I wouldn’t boost another distortion with mxr because it would sound too muddy. Boss is still great though but I love the duality of the mxr and the tube screamer.

      You dont know what you're talking about. Only amps can have head room . Headroom term is used to discribe an amp clean volume capability before it starts to break up or distort. You're welcome.

    I like the TS best personally. It just seems more tonally juicy the MXR is a bit muddy and the OD3 sounds like a distortion pedal

      it depend what sounds u like..if u like classic rock and fat warm sound go with a ocd or plimsoul..u can also go with a ts9 and use as a boost to crank ur amp sound..also u have to have a good tube amp for overdrive pedals

  • @andrestojanov

    What is the best as boost? I'm using Guitar > Od-3 > Blackstar Ht Dist > Amplifier.

    • @livingproof7248
      @livingproof7248 9 лет назад +1

      Depends what kind of a boost your looking to get. There are just plain volume boosters that will just take your guitar volume up to a preset level. Or if you use a dirty signal for the most part..and you want to bump up the dirtyness and volume level for a solo..then a good od pedal would work for that. T screamers are renowed for doing that.

    WICH OVERDRIVE WOULD YOU USE FOR A P-90'S PICKUPS???? I LOVE OASIS..SONIC YOUTH.. PEARL JAM..... HELP!!

    • @ushnicyuvnikof2748
      @ushnicyuvnikof2748 10 месяцев назад

      OD-3 because it's higher gain and p90s being higher in volume get used for metal a lot, think Iommi / Doom Metal. So definitely OD-3 or a BD-3 stacked into a fuzz or a RAT.

    • @ushnicyuvnikof2748
      @ushnicyuvnikof2748 10 месяцев назад

      For Oasis you want humbuckers and a hollow body and a low gain overdrive like a blues breaker into a typical Marshall type amp.
      P90s especially on a solid body won't sound very Oasis. But p90s are cool idcembrave the p90s and cop and more higher output / gain single coil tone like a more overdriven version of Oasis (because humbuckers clean up better and take extreme low gain better, p90s are really raw but in a good way).

    • @ushnicyuvnikof2748
      @ushnicyuvnikof2748 10 месяцев назад

      Sonic Youth sound nothing like Osasis, some Sonic youth tones probably are P90s on a solid body guitar, arnt Sonic Youth the band tgst use all those eccentric tunings? So that too. Some Sonic Youth stuff if I remember is way distorted and way weirdly tuned and soubds like a super hot single coil even on the cleaner parts. I'd say P90s can definitely Sonic Youth.

    Ibanez TS. Keeps the original tone of the guitar... keeps it's integrity best and it's sharp and clear. Not muddy at all. Both OD3 and MXR sound muddy... dirty.

    • @Dead-Eye
      @Dead-Eye 4 года назад +4

      With that lift in the mids, no way does a TS keep the guitar's tone. What are you on?
