"This came out in, like, the 80s, right?" - This is THE anthem of the 80s ( along with Survivor's Eye of the Tiger, Burning Heart, and Whitesnake's Here I Go Again ).
I would posit it's almost impossible for someone over the age of 25 to have never heard this before. You may not consciously know it, but you'll recognize it when it comes on. Just like Hotel California, Respect, Billie Jean, Good Vibrations, Every Breath You Take, and a few others.
Come on now, how the heck did you forget Another One Bites The Dust, Thriller, Back In Black, Don't Stop Believin, Billie Jean, Shook Me All Night Long, Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun, Footloose, Jessie's Girl, Paradise City.....80's rock, 80s's rap, 90's....they dont make music like that amymore. 😭😭😭😭
But not this version, which rips the intensity of the song out.
I remember when this song was literally number one on the call in MTV show videos for like a year this song in this video were huge
it came out in 1989
@@wendycole7980 The Hysteria album released in 1987.
And his band mates never gave up on him they stay with him through all didn't replace him. Work together so he could learn how to play with his feet. That's way I will forever love ❤️ Def Leppard I love ❤️ the 80&s
Yup
The man is amazing
He still plays with his one arm but they tailored the foot pedals to do more. So not so intricate and speed but impactful blasts
Not to mention this song is from the Hysteria album, their first one after his accident, and it is their best selling album of all time. Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria, Animal, Rocket, Love Bites...all huge hits off this album.
You can tell the drummer is playing with one arm. I didn't even know he played with his feet other than the bass drum. You're educating me now ,Billy, and I grew up listening to this song.
A special set of drums was made for the drummer. He was able to play using his arm and his feet.
I read that they were opening for AC/DC for a while before the Hysteria album blew up. Can you imagine how great that was to see Def Leppard and AC/DC in one night.
Briits equivalent to I love Rock n roll !!!!
Miss ya Steve!!!!!!!! RIP
Rick Allen, the drummer, lost his arm in a horrific car accident when he was 21. He had been with Def Leppard since he was 15. They DEFINITELY weren't gonna abandon him, even though so many people were telling them to get a new drummer. They stayed with him and waited for him to heal and re-teach himself how to play. He has a special kit in which his left pedal can emulate what his left arm could do. He still suffers PTSD from the accident to this day, and says drumming and painting is meditational healing for him. He's opened charities for wounded veterans and people who have had amputations.
Poison - Nothing but a good time!
Stripper Anthem of the 80's and beyond.
I swear, I love watching your reactions, but you make me feel SO OLD when you react to songs I grew up with that you barely recognize and I'm only 44. Hysteria was (and still is) one of my favorite albums.
Right... I feel really old right now lol
He added extra foot pedals to compensate for loosing his arm
When I was a kid I thought Tommy Lee was the greatest drummer because he could drum.upside down but he doesn't come close to Rick Allen from.Def Leppard
Yes the drummer lost an arm in a car crash. Def didn’t give up on him and the drum company DW actually helped create a custom kit
I seriously would have been shocked if you didn't recognize that hook! This song is one of the most commercialized songs! It was EVERYWHERE and is still in rotation on many stations! I think every stripper in the nation at that time used this as their song!
LOL Billy you said “they haven’t showed closeups of the drummer” and then they have to show it 3 or 4 times before you notice, you doing ok there Billy 😂😂
This was the 80's right here. So many many many great bands especially the heavy metal. Nothing can touch the 80's when it comes to music.
If you're wondering where you've heard this before the answer is everywhere. Literally EVERYWHERE. The song is one of the biggest hits of all time and is played at every sporting event, bar, party, etc for the last 30 years.
My MOST favorite rock band of ALL-TIME! "Hysteria" my #1 favorite song EVER!
The band didn't play for like 2 years waiting for the drummer to heal and to relearn a different way to play drums. I admire them for that! Love the 80's!!!!
I absolutely love this song. Awesome dancing song
If you’ve ever watched Coyote Ugly, it’s in that movie.
What I like about 80 music the different bands had such respect for each other. For example, when Freddie Mercury died and the rest of Queen had a tribute concert for him. The other bands like Def Leppard, Guns-n-Roses and so much more; when they were asked to perform at the concert they didn't hesitate to sign on. There are so many songs to choose from and since I subscribed for the 1st time today; I haven't really looked through the react videos that have been posted. I can't wait and see. Thank You.
the drummer Rick Allen was nick named God Of Thunder! He is also a great artist (painter). Like alot of popular songs, commercials, shows , movies and sports use songs. This song came out in the 80's. You have alot of great songs and bands to catch up on.
My favorite rock band ever. I’m going to see them in July hopefully.
I developed immense respect for this band after the accident. They were already a huge success, and could have ridden the wave with a replacement drummer, yet they put the band on hold until he could heal and recover. That decision and loyalty cost them millions. It was not a frivolous, easy decision. Great respect for their loyalty and sacrifice.
SO cute lol... yes indeed the 80s... i was about 10 when this came out... rick allen the drummer... most humble man ever... he said it took losing his arm to love drumming again... he lost the love from fame and fortune boredom... he renewed his love of life and not one second did the band think of not having him back...was just when... this is an epic song of life.. a must know... :)) cheers and thanks for loving the great music of the 80s.
I can't help but want to dance every time this song comes on!!!!
My first ever concert ever ended up being Def Leppard and Kiss concert in Tampa Bay back in the summer of 2014. I was 15. Greatest concert i went to and I will never go to another one.
The band stopped performing live from 1984 to 1986 to allow Rick Allen to recover and relearn the drums with the help of a specially built electric drum kit. They had a couple of shows with a second drummer as back-up and then he made his official return to performing live, solo, with the band at Monsters of Rock. This is what he had to say about it: "Before the show, we had decided to treat it like just another gig, but without getting too cheesy, there was a vibe of overwhelming love, and I knew within a number or two that it would be fine. There was a groundswell of energy from the audience, willing Joe to say something. He had no choice. When he introduced me so beautifully, and the roar of the crowd was so loud, I burst into tears. I thought, ‘Shit… if I cry on these pedals will I get electrocuted?’ Thirty years on, that day remains in the top five moments of my life. Each time I’ve returned to Donington I’ve realized that it saw me become a man."
One of the biggest bands mid to late 80’s! That song was a huge hit! They are touring now, and they still rock it out!
I’ve seen them in concert twice!! I love them!!
SO EXCITED , Love Def Leppard, when Rick Allen the drummer had the accent he told the rest of the band to get a new drummer, they refused! Told him they would find a way and they sure did, this band has been through a lot, lead singer bad case of mumps caused him to be steral, then Rick's accident, then the death of Steve the guitar player!
lots of great music, Let's get rocked, rock of ages, fooling, Animal, love hurts, just to name a few! ....and I think the song is 🔥, did as a teen and still do 😆
....
Foolin'.... that song was the 💩 in the early 80s.
This song came out when I was a preteen and pretty much was the soundtrack to my entire adolescence. I will be a 93yo woman in a nursing home and still rock out to it if I hear it.
Love me some def leppard! Love 80’s rock
Seen them in concert twice! Excellent!!
Yep, they rigged electronic pick-ups to replace drum beats of his left arm, played with the feet. BADASS!
Gotta keep the def leppard train moving keep their videos coming
I agree 👍
Love This Song Def Leppard Was One Of The Many Bands That I Was Raised On Growing Up
Love 80s hair band Rock in time and they are the best
I love this song!!!! ❤️
This came out in 1987.
Yes, the drummer; Rick Allen (or the Thunder God as he's known as by Def Leppard fans) only has one arm. He lost his left arm on December 31 1984 in a car accident due to a faulty seat belt..
And he always plays in his bare feet as I've heard him say in an interview that it gives him a better feel for the drums.
This was also from the tour from the album Hysteria and it was done in the round. The stage was in the middle and you could see them running around to each side of the stage. Joe Elliot (lead singer) said it was exhausting by the end of the night.
You probably heard this in a strip club
Jaycob Ellis or just bars in general.
It's the official strip club song, right? Haha
I said the same thing.
Earlier Def Leppard also, High ‘n Dry, Let It Go ( not even the Frozen version, lol). I was there during the 80’s, good times, great memories.
loved it this is from my teen years ! yea the drummer is a beast..
The most impressive thing about Rick Allen is if you have seen them live which I’ve seen them live a bunch of times the songs that he did before he lost his arm off the pyromania on through the night high and dry albums sound exactly the same he was able to play them exactly the same with his feet
Sweetie, it’s not dirty, it’s provocative 😉 Next, you need to make a playlist “Every song I think I’ve heard somewhere...” And, finally, I’ve seen them 2 times in the past 4 years - incredible in concert!
We had great music! The rock, country, r&b, rap... everything was good.
My favorite Def Leppard song. 🤘
This was played at my wedding reception back in the day!!😆 love this song! ❤
Seen them in concert several times. My favorite band. Steve Clark ♥️
The drummers name is Rick Allen. His knickname was "The Thunder God".
Tom Cruise covered this song in the film Rock of Ages, along with Paradise City, Every Rose Has Its Thorn, and Don't Stop Believeing, along with the rest of the cast. Def Leppard was actually on set and in the crowd the day Tom Cruise filmed the performance of Pour Some Sugar On Me, and the group was blown away by it. One of the extras on the Blu Ray of the film features the group talking about Cruise's performance. If you haven't seen Rock of Ages, I recommend the film, as well as the performances by Tom Cruise in particular. He trained for about 5 months or so with a vocal coach for this movie, which is astounding, as his voice coach said it usually takes the average person about a couple of years to get to the level he did in such a short amount of time.
The jeans though.....haha we paid good money in the day for torn up jeans
That stage set is called in the round. The stage is in the center. The crowd is on all sides. They had a break area under the stage. The album Hysteria had seven singles on the album.
Memory lane! 80’s music! Ahh!
Next do their song Rock Of Ages
1988, this was my jam
Except this is the 2013 version
Brian Blake I may be wrong about the year, but that is not the version from the album
Recently went and saw them twice. Still rockin' AF!
FYI, there is a movie about Def Leppard that goes up to the first concert when the drummer (The Thunder God) came back. It’s worth watching, if you’re interested.
Drummers came to them to audition they were told we have a drummer. Loyal band
One of my fave bands .
The drummer uses foot pedals, it's not like he's holding a drumstick with his foot and playing! I have great respect for him
this is an absolute anthem! 1987...Steve Clark tore it up!
Yes!!! Do Poison “Nothing But a Good Time” or “Unskinny Bop”! 😊
Love them so much
As a very free spirited (highly intoxicated) 19 year old I danced on a bar to this song... With about 10 other girls!!!! We had some fun times back in the early 2000's LOL
This song just makes me happy
Yeah, he taught himself to play with his foot. Also the band didn’t consider replacing him after his accident for one minute. They completely stood with their drummer. Kind of a nice tidbit in a world where band members are replaced so quickly.
It was in Coyote Ugly, and a commercial where a guy messes up the words “Pour some shook up ramen...” can’t remember what the commercial was about though just that bit
T-mobile. ( only cause I looked it up) I thought it was used in a skittles commercial too but I couldn't find it.
OmG .. U never heard before ??? How NOT ... RIP Steve !!!!!
1987. A late addition to the decade, but it immediately became THE song of the decade.
Rick Allen is a great story for a drummer. Had to relearn etc, but persevered. And think of his bandmates - his best friends - at the height of their careers (to that point) after huge success of pyromania - they took 4+ years hiatus instead of cashing in on tours and another album or two over that time to give him time to learn and stay with them. It's a great story.
I hear that line in alot of reactions, "I know I've heard this song, but, I don't know where." lol. Love Bites is my favorite Def Leppard. The Kids on the school bus I aid for know, Pour Some Sugar On Me.
this was the number one video on MTV forever in the 80's
This was filmed in Denver. I was there. Awesome show
Funny how those acid wash ripped jeans always seem to come back in style every few years that Joe wore in this video.
Great reaction!
It was in a T-Mobile commercial where a guy was mishearing the lyrics as "Pour Some Shook Up Ramen."
Rick's drum solo is definitely sick.
You should check out love bites.....it was my favorite song by this group....I had the opportunity a few years ago to see them...they can still rock!
The jeans though!!! :) .....LMAO I still rock the Joe Elliot shredded jeans!
Great band!
Thanks for the Nice reaction... Hope you react to Def Leppard- Hysteria or Love Bites...🙏
I saw these guys live. Insane concert 🤘
1987 was the release of this album, 'Hysteria.'
The drummer lost his arm while the band was currently in the middle of a big tour. The band paused their tour and waited for the drummer to be healthy before they resumed their tour
For some reason, whenever spring comes around, I need a good Def Leppard fix. How about Rock of Ages reaction?
You can see the full layout of Rick Allen's drum kit in their video Animal.

Now you talking!! One of the greatest songs of the early 90s
I cut my own hair during lock down and am currently rocking one of these mullets 😂😭
On of them may have had that "mom", lol, they played in the center of the arena and had a room under the stage and during solos, they would bring in gals to have a go at it, some funny ass stories about that tour are all around.
The drummer was in an accident and the band refused to get a different drummer. So they had a set of drums specially made so that he could play it that those feet and one arm and he retaught himself how to play drums. In this particular concert where the song was played it was called working for the 7-Day weekend and the group was on a round stage was called in the round and at the beginning they all came from underneath the floor in circles and the drummer came from the ceiling in a cage
I didn’t get any notifications from RUclips today for your vids.
You rock billy definitely deserve more subs man also do you think you could check out Rammstein its german metal band
Du Hast Mich!!!!!
Loved this song int he 80's but I was married with teenage boys, listening to this song while the basket ball team was practicing before I realized what they were talking about. talk about embarrassing!! the boys still laugh about it
they said that rick allen [the drummer] would be in the hospital 6 months after his wreck butafter 4 days he was sitting on the edge of his hospital bed trying to figure out a way that he could play drums again and he was out of the hospital in 6 weeks.
Im pretty sure I requested this in a live lol
+BillyYSC LOL the holed jeans though LOL. That was the style back then, people particularly metal head and hair band type teens would actually go and buy brand new jeans, take them outside, poor rubbing alcohol or bleach on them and then take a rock and rub the rock on them like crazy to purposely make those holes in them LOL.
Great reaction this song was featured in American Dad and that Family Guy Simpsons crossover episode where Peter and Homer were doing that carwash
They made a movie about the history of the band called hysteria the Def Leppard story
