You're not kidding, I was watching this when it was on tv and never missed an episode. You can't deny the fact that "dragnet" is still better than any program today!
Times have changed, and it's been great to see them do so. Especially where drunk driving is concerned. Dragnet changed, too, but it was never as good as the old Dragnet.
Very interesting how they had several strong suspects and finally narrowed it down. It seem incredible that the guy only got 5 years for two cases of manslaughter. 😞
James Anderson, who played Daniel Miller, specialized in playing dastardly low-lifes (he played Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird for god’s sake!). His characters almost always ended up with their toes facing skyward. Kind of nice to see him playing someone who is not guilty for a change!
@@steveschierholz5272 James Anderson was in To kill a mockingbird. He sometimes was billed as Kyle James. Guess even back then he was furtive and laying low.
And if you *really* had acting chops, you became a charter member of his "stock company" (headed by Stacy Harris, Virginia Gregg, Peggy Webber, Herb Ellis, Harry Bartell, Marty Milner, et. al.).
To me, Daniel Miller doesn't escape so easily. He loaned a company truck to a man he knew had no driver's license, who then drove while under the influence and killed two people.
Wow - only one to five for killing the kid and the old man??? Who the hell was in charge back then, Gascon's granpa? That should have been good for 30 years to life.
5 YEARS ??? EVEN IF IT WAS 5 YEARS FOR EACH ONE AIN'T LONG ENOUGH ! If you KILL someone then you should get the SAME SENTENCE YOU GAVE THEM !!! DEATH !!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

AGREE
It really is, especially the early series. It' nuts that a show in the early 50's makes modern policing shows look absolutely absurd and fantastical.
I totally agree with you about the old dragnet series, Jack Varick! They were the best, unlike the rubbish on tv today which I DON'T WATCH AT ALL!!!😀
Agreed - and Adam-12, the Dragnet spin-off, is equally good as well.
Times have changed, and it's been great to see them do so. Especially where drunk driving is concerned.
Dragnet changed, too, but it was never as good as the old Dragnet.
Thanks for posting these programs they are great 👍
No matter how many times I watch these old episodes of Dragnet, the more I like them
Jack Webb is A Savage!!!
I love both the 50’s and 60’s versions of DRAGNET.
Very interesting how they had several strong suspects and finally narrowed it down.

Jack Webb seemed like an old person to me as a kid now that I’m older than him I feel like he was such a great actor.
In one episode, Sergeant Friday said he was 32.
He was also a fantastic writer on both radio and television. 📻📺☺️
@@dariowiter3078 Do you really enjoy being the turd in the punchbowl.

Fred, the customer at the Diner, was played by Joe Cranston, father of actor Bryan Cranston.
Wow, great trivia there...
Thank you
Paul Barton was very unlucky. Today, he could have intentionally run down 25 people, and been out of jail that same day with no charges.
❤ love dragnet ❤
One-to-five for two vehicular homicides. Incredible.
No kidding!! That was before the strict DUI laws. Double DUI vehicular homocide. 5 years. Insane.
Good episode.
In Dragnet, whenever a turning point in an episode occurs, dramatic music (18:26) sounds!

James Anderson was great in To Kill a Mockingbird!
That was Kyle James. No James Anderson was even in the cast
@@steveschierholz5272 James Anderson was in To kill a mockingbird. He sometimes was billed as Kyle James. Guess even back then he was furtive and laying low.
You're right. He appears to have been typecast as a sneaky, oily kind of bad guy. Spent a lot of time occupying a boot hill grave.
he was also in " I married a monster from outer space"
Pretty light sentence.
6:16, Friday asks a good question of moral guilt.
14:55 Friday takes a toke!
Paul Barton couldn't help it. He was in a bakery panel truck and truly believed he had to haul buns when behind the wheel.
Five years????
64 years old and continually being referred to as 'the old lady'.
This actor-Paul (22:26) appeared in the episode "The Big Look"
Webb used alot of the same actors over & over in different episodes
And if you *really* had acting chops, you became a charter member of his "stock company" (headed by Stacy Harris, Virginia Gregg, Peggy Webber, Herb Ellis, Harry Bartell, Marty Milner, et. al.).
7:11, This actor also appeared in the Episode "The Big Betty."
If Jack Webb liked the way you read your lines- and appeared in front of a camera- he called you back for more episodes. 🙂
@@fromthesidelines I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
You're welcome!
14:00, the customer reveals that Miller wasn't in the coffee shop when he said.
James Anderson, the classic black hat bad guy (Mayella's racist daddy in "To Kill A Mockingbird").
That hit-and-run-driver was a KILLER, committed MANSLAUGHTER, and should have gotten more than a measly 1 to 5 years!
No right to remain silent back then.
Jack Webb lived to only be 62 he passed from a heart attack . Also Jack started out in comedy
He is buried next to my husband's mother at Forrest lawn hollywood.
Loans his work truck to someone he has never even seen drive.

Hit and Run - not less than one year! He killed two people and got 1 year!
To me, Daniel Miller doesn't escape so easily. He loaned a company truck to a man he knew had no driver's license, who then drove while under the influence and killed two people.
But he escaped murder charges
He'd best not give up his night gig as a counter man.
So how did he get tracks on him?
I thought he would have been jailed on a different charge.
One to five years - thats all?
❤❤❤
miller had to loose his job.
Thumbnail is good humor guy.
That’s bullshite… he killed two people and only got five years?
Agreed, that is wrong, very wrong.
This is a great example of why you never answer police questions!
That guy Paul is really Walter Reed - I believe a hospital is named after him
In the 1950's the word "queer" (20:14) meant strange, not homosexuality like is has turned into!
are there really only 64 episodes out of 278 that's available, the rest lost or denied us for some reason?
You can get 20 to life in today’s world for that crime
Or a year in minimum security, 18 months probation. I knew the jerk that got away with that slap on the wrist.
people do more time for tax evasion.

Bert Reynolds? Is Paul Barton Bert Reynolds ?
No - read the credits at the end. The actor's name is given.
My name is Fridau, my partner is Frank smith

even California was messed up back when this show was on TV, only 1 to 5 years for killing two people, should be 2 X life in prison
You should not be monetizing this
