I love this song. I love my country. I am proud of my country. I hate racism. I don’t forget our history. And it mustn’t be forgotten. But we have to learn from the mistakes in the past and move on. Thanks for this
I'm actually cool with you watching the concert first the lyrics first. This way, you will know or let's say have an idea, what the video with it's content is about. Tons of symbols you only catch on if you grew up in this culture (sorry).But still, you get a glimpse into the german soul. That's an interesting take to do this by far huge song. Let's see what you'll think of the official video. I will not give you any further details about the meaning of the lyrics, because others have already done though. Can't wait. Till then. The line "so young and yet so old" describes that the Germany we have now is only 30 years old for part of the population (East Germany). Democratic Germany has also only existed since the Second World War. Before that, there was a fascist Germany for 12 years. Before that, there was a 16-year attempt to establish a democratic Germany, the Weimar Republic. Until 1871, Germany was divided into many small states, which were united under one emperor only afterwards. The line from the national anthem "Deutschland über alles" (Germany above all), which was originally intended to express that the many different states from which Germany emerged should put their own interests aside for a united Germany, also comes from this time. In Nazi Germany, this line was reinterpreted as a claim to rule (over the world). That is why it is forbidden today in Germany to sing this verse of the national anthem with this line. Rammstein changed this line for the song and made "all" to "everything".
There were even two socialist dictatorships on german soil... The first one was national socialism. Fascism was in Italy. You got that wrong.

Such claims as you make often come from the right-wing political spectrum. The basis of the National Socialist worldview is the inequality of people, which ultimately led to the Nazi regime's racial mania. This is the exact opposite of the left-wing ideal of equality. When the Nazis were not yet in power, there was indeed a wing that pretended to be anti-capitalist and revolutionary. They wanted to win over the left in this way. But Hitler had the leading figure, Gregor Strasser, liquidated in 1934. And that also meant the end of this political current. After taking power, Hitler naturally wanted to keep "his people" happy - also through social favors. But these benefits did nothing to change the fundamentally right-wing extremist character of the regime.
@@humanbeing1675 they were still fascist, fascism or fascismo as Mussolini called it, describes unity through nationality. Which describes exactly what Hitler has done with the Anschluss of Austria and the Sudetenland annexation

I pretty much said the same thing but I was mainly referring to live performances but this will work great especially with this particular music video which is just amazingly beautiful and complex...💓

If you know European history, German history, then watching this clip becomes even more interesting. Shown here are the main and darkest pages of German history. Starting from the time of the Roman Empire, and ending with the Second World War and the present. This song and...music film (this can't be called just a music video) are just incredible! I haven't seen anything cooler than this.
And I want to add a couple of words. The rulers of the past, the 20th century, were much smarter, wiser than the rulers of today, who constantly create some kind of tension between peoples, out of the blue (I'm referring to Putin, who took the Crimean peninsula and cut off the east of Ukraine. Most people in Russia do not supports his policies, and even hates him). Despite the fact that Germany in the 40s brought a lot of grief to almost all European countries, no one hates Germany and the German people. I am from Russia, 26 million Soviet citizens died in the Second World War, the eastern front was the most nightmarish. But the leadership of the USSR had the wisdom after the end of the war not to instill hatred for the Germans in the new generation of people. Hitler's crime is Hitler's crime. Oddly enough, we in Russia respect and even love the Germans and Germany. Even my grandmother, born in 1941, who experienced many hardships and grief in her childhood, did not hate Germany.

I like about this Song and the Video that they say how many german people feel about the country, we know we invented many good things in the Past (bookprinting, good beer ;) etc) but we know that Germany made some huge mistakes in the Past (even bevore those dark 12 years with that Shitty maniac Austrian Artist with bad Taste for Haircuts and Mustages and his "friends" on the Top of the State). And after the wall came down Germany needed Time to grow together. For me that "you, i, we they" Part is about West and eastgermany. I think we came a long way to do so... its not finnished yet but we can make it. But its sad to see how Covid-19 and vaccination etc is splitting up the People. But that is an annother Story i guess
