Mixing Traditional Hot Lime Mortar

Slaking quicklime with water and heaping the sand over the lime traps the steam in allowing the lime to break down, you close any cracks as they appear while the lime expands. After the cracks have stopped appearing the grit sand and quick lime is then mixed into a hot workable mortar for traditional building, and hot lime pointing.
