Added, the marketing strategy behind Ce Ce Music Factory used slot of Colorism to sell albums. This group appeared non threatening to a mostly white audience. Martha is s legendary and should be celebrated not tolerated.
Although her voice is comparable to theirs, her story is different because Aretha and Patti were younger and small sized in their rise to fame. Like many people, they put on weight as they got older - toward middle age. She was bigger sized in her youth/the beginning of her career, so she didn’t have the time to be marketed like they did before her fan base was able to carry her like theirs did in their later years.
By the 90's it was all about the music video. Aretha and Patti got their start in the 50's and 60's in the Black community where your talent was more important than your size. It should B noted that Martha settled with C&C producers in court, & bonds mended. Thus Martha recorded several songs on C&C's 2nd release, where she and Zelma (C&C's female face, who could really sing) had co-lead smokin'🔥 vocals on the Hit single "Do U Wanna Get Funky."
I apologize in advance if I'm wrong but I always felt that the lead singer in Black Box, (Katrine) was a transvestite. It wasn't just her physical appearance but the camera's endless cut-a-ways that even for the times was excessive. As though they didn't want the observer to look too closely. Just my opinion..
She just wanted to make herself more famous. She was a complete willing participant in singing vocals for Black Box and Clivilles & Cole. She had to make a living. Music is a business. Firstly, there is no such thing as "fatphobia" and people really need to stop trying to make it a thing. However, is there open/unpspoken discrimination against larger sized people in media, yes. Discrimination? Yes. Phobia? No
@@rbdchick05 - Nice try, but my sex/gender has nothing to do with the conversation. Bringing it up only reveals you have no leg to stand on. The point remains there is no such thing as "fat phobia" and there never will be. It's interesting how no one talks about how plus sized women arent lusting after plus sized men. Heavy set women - much like their average sized female counterparts - desire tall, physically fit or average build men. So are these plus size women to be considered "fat phobic" as well? Would you date a 5'5" 300lb man/woman (depending on your persuasion)? Most are willing to bet you would not. Does that make you "height phobic" and "fat phobic"? Society doesn't find anorexia or very slim build individuals appealing either. Is there "anorexia phobia"? Where is the outrage? SMH. Todays culture specializes in inventing terminology as a way to legitimize popular, misguided claims about culture. And the claims are usually hypocritical and unsubstantiated. No need to needlessly overcomplicate things by inventing terms. Keep it simple. There is discrimination of all types (race, religion, sexual orientation, sex, body type, etc). But there no such thing as having a phobia based on categories of people. Stop the nonsense.

There's a great episode of a show called 'Unsung' which airs on TVOne about Martha Wash.

Although Black Box with Ride on Time cheated Loleatta Holloway in a huge way by using her voice from Love Sensation
Martha Wash coming out against Black Box was what paved the way for Rob & Fab being outed by their producer as frontmen in Milli Vanilli. It happened only mere days earlier.

Marketing Suits: She's not marketable!
Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle: Are we a joke to you?
KillerGrooves,
I feel you however Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Kelly Price, Vesta, Jill Scott, Philis Hyman etc didnt have a non African American fanbase. Added, the marketing strategy behind Ce Ce Music Factory used slot of Colorism to sell albums. This group appeared non threatening to a mostly white audience. Martha is s legendary and should be celebrated not tolerated.
Della, too.
The Bronze Age of DC Comics Della Reese wasn’t heavy set at the time.
We loved Luther whether he was skinny or large. Weight fluctuations have nothing to do with your voice, your performance, your passion.
Love how you primarily focused on Martha's story as she was the voice of their success and truly deserves her shine...she is truly a voice in music that has spanned generations 🖤🖤

That is so sad. I can't imagine what she went through hearing her voice used in a song and another chick lip syncing it on stage taking all the credit
She was simply taking gigs wherever she could get them and turned right around and played the fat and age cards to the press when the singles started taking off.

@@opinionatedmalesmartmenroc210 Maybe YOU as a male don't have a fat phobia but it is definitely a real issue for women
Even LL Cool J did this with his “Doin It”
His label or whoever thought the woman who did the actual rap with him on the album was not attractive enough and put a different chick in the video

Nelly with Hot It herre was the same thing, the girl who did the female vocals is not the same from the music video. He brought the original singer on stage once together with the mv vixen and the audience had mixed reactions, it's really cringe.
PowdaToastFace Killah - NOT TRUE.
