I'm also Indian-American, and like I've said before, I don't agree with this narrative "nobody like us has done any of this before." I mean ... we *are* the Indians in America, you know? Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely proud of my fellow desis succeeding high on an esteemed artistic platform such as Broadway. But our people have been visible and performing in *our own homeland.* I only say this because it's logical that America is not the Indian-majority country in the world where you'd be likelier to see "one of us" on these stages.
Personally, as a member of this community, it's not a narrative I appreciate nor does it look good. You guys worked extremely hard to get to where you are, I'd find it more interesting to hear about how you mastered ballet, musical theatre, and western singing forms as people of Indian origin in America and did the raw work needed to excel in American performing arts spaces.
Bonus when you draw linkages to any training in Indian performing art forms which one of you did.
We need to have representatives who speak better on our behalf because this is too much a recurring theme amongst the South Asian young adults in North America.
